Grojband wants to impress movie star Cherry Grapestain so she will use their music in her upcoming movie trailer.

Tropes:

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When Mina asks Trina if she can have her extra Cherry Grapestain VIP ticket, Trina says “No, you’re not in this episode.” Mina then sadly walks off screen. Revisited when Trina tries to call Mina for help after her crush runs off with the movie star.
Mina: But I'm not in this episode!
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Cory says “By the power of rock, Grojband UNITE!” as he holds his electric guitar up to the sky and it’s struck by lightning.
  • Drive-In Theater: The band has to find a way to get into a drive-in theater without tickets in order to get the star of the movie to hire them as her “trailer band.”
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: On Kon’s calloused hands from drumming.
  • Ironic Echo:
Corey: We just need to get into that drive-in tonight.
Trina: You better not be trying to sneak into the drive-in tonight.
  • Internet Stalking: The band is able to find each location Cherry Grapestain is going to be at throughout the city because she “bleats” (Grojband’s version of tweets) her every waking moment.
  • Oblivious to Love: Even from this first episode, it’s clear that Laney has a huge crush on her best friend Corey…well clear to everyone but him.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The band gets past Trina at the ticket booth by wearing costumes of movie theater snacks that very clearly show their faces and “driving” a cardboard car.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The episode’s title is a play on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Trina is already annoyed with her job at the drive-in, and then she doesn’t even get to meet Cherry Grapestain after all the work she does to try to be her new best friend. What finally sends her over the edge though, is her crush, Nick Mallory, going to hang out with Cherry in her limo.
  • Real After All: Throughout the episode, Kin and Kon make nonsensical references to their future selves. In the end, it’s their future selves who get the movie up and running again. The twins are quite pleased with this revelation.
  • Running Gag: Kin and Kon mentioning their future selves.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Nick Mallory has some extra VIP tickets that he offers Corey. He turns them down, opting instead for his latest Zany Scheme. Amazingly, his plan actually does work.
Corey: Thanks, man, but I've already got a crazy plan that just might work.

Dance of the Dead

Grojband gets a haunted amp that causes zombies to erupt from their graves and attack their school's Halloween dance.

Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: Happens several times between Trina and Zombie!Nick Mallory. Unfortunately for her, Trina never actually ends up kissing him - unless sticking her whole head in his mouth counts.
  • Animate Body Parts: Laney’s heart starts freaking out when Corey puts his finger to her lips and tells her he’s sorry for neglecting her. However, when he clarifies that he was referring to not complimenting her costume (she isn’t even wearing one), her heart packs a Bindle Stick and walks out of her mouth.
  • Answer Cut: Trina questions what Nick Mallory could be doing that’s more important than making a couple’s costume with her. The next scene shows Nick Mallory visiting the grave of Dog Nick.
  • Burning with Anger: This happens to Laney twice. Both times are when, dressed like she always is, she’s complimented on her scary costume.
  • Creepy Cemetery: Since Trina won’t let Grojband perform at her party, they decide to play in the cemetery outside instead. Unfortunately, this combined with their cursed amp has (un)deadly consequences.
  • Crush Filter: Trina’s love for Nick Mallory causes her to see him as a total hunk, even after he’s been turned into a zombie.
  • Episode of the Dead: Grojband brings the dead back to life in this episode.
  • Grave-Marking Scene: Nick Mallory visits the grave of his dead dog, Dog Nick.
  • Halloween Episode: Grojband spends Halloween trying to stop the zombie apocalypse they created.
  • Halloween Songs: “Halloween Can Sound So Creepy”
  • Impact Silhouette: Made by Grojband when Trina screams at them using their own microphone and amp and they go flying through a wall.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: Grojband playing the haunted amp after it’s been struck by lightning is what caused it to create the zombies.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title could be a reference to the film of the same name, which featured a school prom being attacked by zombies, and a group of students fighting to save the day. Or, it could also be a Title of the Dead reference.
  • The Power of Rock: Grojband’s music is what raised the dead, and it’s also what sent them back to their graves, and also turned those who became zombies back into regular humans.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The zombies Grojband raises from the dead with their song have bright red eyes when they first wake up.
  • Rise from Your Grave: When Grojband’s Halloween song is played through a haunted amp in a cemetery, it causes the dead buried there to claw their way out of their graves.
  • Running Gag: Everyone thinking Laney is wearing a scary costume when she’s dressed exactly as she always is.
  • Severely Specialized Store: Apparently Corey bought the haunted amp at the “Evil Magic Music and Cheese Boutique.”
  • Shout-Out: When they realize they're surrounded by zombies, Grojband lets out a simultaneous “Zoinks!
  • Zombie Apocalypse: While unknowingly using a haunted amp to perform in a graveyard, Grojband causes the dead to rise.
  • Zombie Gait: Like most, these zombies don’t move very fast. This is lampshaded by Corey:
Corey: Well, I think we’ve got some time to figure this out now.
