Frasier soon discovers that Maris is having an affair with her fencing instructor based upon a call by said instructors wife.
Tropes:
- Argentina Is Nazi-Land: Apparently Marta learned to speak German from a German family who showed up in Guatemala "just after the war". Frasier's tone indicates he knows exactly what that implies.
- Bilingual Bonus: Viewers who speak German or Spanish (or both) will catch the misunderstanding between Gunther and Niles several minutes before viewers who only speak English.
- Chandelier Swing: Niles tries this. It almost immediately gives under his weight.
- Malaproper: Marta, the maid of Niles and Maris, has trouble with her pronouns, which causes confusion for Frasier when she asks for "Mrs. Crane" and Marta thinks he meant Niles. This also causes trouble at the very end, when Martha's attempt to tell Gunther that "his wife loves him" comes out as "your wife loves Frasier."
- Suicide as Comedy: Maris apparently once tried to off herself after Frasier questioned the political correctness of veal she was serving for a dinner.
