Recap / Everybody Hates Chris S 1 E 22 Everybody Hates Fathers Day

Go To

  • Both Sides Have a Point: While Julius is perfectly justified in just wanting some peace and quiet for once, especially in a household like that and on a day all about catering to his desires, Father's Day is all about families spending time with their fathers, so Rochelle and the kids are also justified in feeling neglected.
  • Double Standard: Pointed out by the Narrator at the beginning of the episode. Mother's Day is taken far more seriously than Father's Day.
  • Holiday Episode: Father's Day.
  • Informed Wrongness: Downplayed. Julius is constantly guilted for wanting some alone time for his Father's Day gift, but then again, Father's Day is all about spending time with your father, so it's understandable why he's being given grief for it, and he's eventually granted his wish.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Rochelle claims that Julius "doesn't want to be a father" on Father's Day of all days, when he really just wants to have some alone time. However, it is true that families are expected to spend time with their fathers on Father's Day, and the kids feel a bit neglected hearing that Julius just wants to be left to his own devices, so Rochelle's complaints have some weight.
