Recap / Dora the Explorer S1 E10 "Berry Hunt"

Go To

Original air date: 10/30/2000

Dora and Boots are going on a berry hunt and hunting for blueberries, and they'll need help to find them at Blueberry Hill. Help them row across the Icy Cold River and swing over the Prickly Forest. But watch out for Swiper the Fox — who lives on Blueberry Hill — as well as other shocking surprises, too!

Tropes:

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: The bear that chases Dora and Boots during the climax of the episode has lavender fur. Later bears seen in the series would have typical brown fur.
  • Bears Are Bad News: A bear encounters Dora and Boots at Blueberry Hill, shocking them so much they end up running all the way back the way they came. However, since this is a preschool show, it's not their blood he's out for...
  • Oh, Crap!: Dora and Boots when they hear a bear wanting their blueberries, right behind them.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To none other than the children's book We're Going on a Bear Hunt:
    • The rhyme Dora and Boots say is akin to the rhyme in the book (''Going on a berry hunt, gonna pick some juicy ones!"/"We're going on a bear hunt, we're gonna catch a big one!"). They also say "What a beautiful day! We're not scared!", albeit in opposite order.
    • Once Dora and Boots come to a location, they exchange things such as "We can't go over/under/around/through it!", before deducing what they should do to get past.
    • When Swiper is about to appear at Blueberry Hill, Dora and Boots get nervous like when the family arrives at the bear's cave.
    • The bear shocks Dora and Boots just like how the family got shocked by the bear in the book.
    • The climatic chase scene is the exact same as the book, with Dora and Boots getting chased all the way back the way they came through the places they passed, just like the family getting chased by the bear. The bear even gives up after the chase.
