- Afraid of Needles: Diddy is revealed to be as such, and avoids getting a shot for the Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo disease by holding two coconuts against his butt, tricking Cranky into injecting them with the vaccine. This ends up biting him in the ass, literally, when Polly Roger, the carrier of the disease, infects him.
- Chekhov's Gun: The coconuts Diddy tricked Cranky into injecting with the Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo vaccine end up proving to be what save his life.
- Curse Cut Short: After Diddy tricks Cranky into giving the vaccine to the coconuts, Diddy says "What a riot! What a gas! Cranky's dumber than a monkey's-" before getting bitten in the butt by Polly Roger.
- Darker and Edgier: The stakes are higher than ever before in the series. Kongo Bongo Island is about to blow up, and Diddy and K. Rool could potentially die due to a deadly disease.
- Dreaming the Truth: K. Rool dreamt of successfully conquering Kong Bongo, but he can't remember how he did it. By the time he does, he spends so much time grandstanding, that the laryngitis stage of Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo Disease kicks in.
- Disaster Dominoes: Diddy refuses to get vaccinated, and catches Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo Disease when Polly Roger bites him. While out, Diddy passes it to Krusha, who passes it to K. Rool!
- Evil Is Petty: Polly could have stopped the threat of Kongo Bongo being blown up, but he refused to say anything purely out of spite for K. Rool insulting him and telling him off.
- High-Pressure Emotion: K. Rool loses his voice JUST as he's telling his troops his plan. Klump's inability to understand him causes K. Rool to go red and hiss steam out. Klump interprets this as an order to blow the whole island up.
- Karma Houdini: Polly infects Diddy with the deadly Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo, visibly enjoys putting DK through a Sadistic Choice to save his best friend or the island, and deliberately chooses not to tell Klump and Krusha that K. Rool doesn't want the island blow up purely to spite the king for insulting him. Aside from being choke-holded into spitting out the cure and startled by Cranky's hologram into dropping it, Polly gets off totally scot-free.Polly: Yo-ho-ho and a...uh...ah, forget it.
- Out of Focus: Candy and Dixie are only present in the early part of the episode, so that they can get their shots and have Cranky explain to them (and, by proxy, the audience) what the Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo disease is.
- Poor Communication Kills: Because one of the symptoms of Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo Disease is laryngitis, Diddy can't tell DK and Funky that K. Rool is planning another scheme to take over the island. And because K. Rool also caught the disease, his strangled noises are mistaken by Klump to be an order to blow up the island.
- Sadistic Choice: At the climax of the episode, Polly Roger hits DK with this; either give the antidote to Diddy and save his best friend, or give it to K. Rool so that he can call off the attack on the island.
- Too Dumb to Live: Klump and Krusha are in top form here, considering they misinterpret K. Rool's sickened grunts into an order to blow up the island...with everyone and THEM on it. To further prove the point, Cranky tried to point it out, yet Klump thought it was a mental trick.
- Unconventional Food Usage: Diddy puts two coconuts on his behind to fool Cranky into injecting them with a shot so he won't have to get the shot himself. These very same coconuts end up saving his life.
