Recap / Captain Planet And The Planeteers S 2 E 11 The Fine Print

Go To

Looten Plunder and Argos Bleak exploit an agricultural worker's illiteracy by putting him in charge of spraying pesticides. Because he couldn't read the warnings or the barrels of pesticides (which he was told were plant nutrients), a lethal cloud of pesticide was formed that threatens a nearby town.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Bad Boss: Plunder is in his usual form, tricking Joe into claiming responsibility for the pesticide cloud by alleging it's a different kind of document and taunting him afterwards about the need to read what he signs.
  • Buried Alive: Plunder and Bleak trap Kwame, Wheeler, Linka, and Gi in a silo, which is continuously filling with corn kernels.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: After most of the team is trapped in a silo filling with corn, Wheeler tries to burn the door down so they can escape. He fails, but the popcorn that results from the heat gives Kwame another idea.
  • Grand Romantic Gesture: At the end of the episode, Joe has learned to read under his girlfriend, Angela. Once he managed to learn enough, he writes a marriage proposal on a piece of paper, which she accepts.
  • Never Learned to Read: Joe is an illiterate man who doesn't want to admit it, which Plunder takes advantage of.
  • Out Of Control Popcorn: Invoked when most of the team is trapped in a corn silo and Linka is tiring from holding the kernels off them. Kwame reasons that if Wheeler can use his firepower to pop enough of the corn, they can use the popcorn as a "ladder" to escape through the top.
  • The Scapegoat: Plunder tricks Joe into signing a contract that states he'll claim full responsibility for the damage caused from the pesticide overuse that threatens the town.
  • Shipper on Deck: Although Wheeler teases Joe about reading the fine print on the marriage contract, he clearly approves of him and his girlfriend Angela getting engaged at the end of the episode.
