Calvin wants to become an escape artist, and has Hobbes tie him to a chair to practice. He's unable to get out of the ropes on his own, and when his parents start calling him for dinner, he finds himself in hot water.
Tropes
- Comedic Spanking: One of the few times in the strip's run where it's made explicit that Calvin gets spanked. He's shown rubbing his butt with cartoon stars coming off of it after his dad unties him.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: People who believe that Hobbes is a living being typically point to this arc as the strongest evidence. It's extremely difficult to imagine Calvin doing that good of a job tying himself to a chair. It may not be impossible, given that Calvin's dad instantly believes that Calvin found a way to do it.
