Calvin's family goes on another summer camping trip for their vacation. They quickly fall into their usual rhythm of Calvin's dad appreciating the time away from civilization, while Calvin, Hobbes, and Calvin's mom can't wait to get back to civilization.

- Horrible Camping Trip: Not as bad as the last couple, but the family is bombarded with mosquitos, Calvin gets caught in poison ivy, and despite the best attempts of Calvin's dad to have meaningful moments with his family, they're both too miserable to even try to meet him halfway.
- Not a Morning Person: Both Calvin and Calvin's mom have zero interest in dragging themselves out of bed when Calvin's dad wants to fish with them at sunrise.
- Not So Above It All: Typically, both of Calvin's parents act as a team when in conflict with Calvin in their attempts to get him to behave, do well in school, live a healthy lifestyle, and so on. However, Calvin's mom hates camping just as much as Calvin, and when Calvin suggests they go rent a motel room for their vacation and just pretend they went camping, she thinks it's a great idea.
- Terrible Artist: We don't get to see the picture that Calvin's dad is painting, but Calvin has a low opinion of how it's coming out.
- Your Television Hates You: Invoked. Calvin and his mom refuse to pose for a picture, so Calvin's dad swears to put an ax through his TV set if he sees a Kodak commercial.
