- Early-Installment Weirdness: Most of the later depictions of Susie show her giving as good as she gets with Calvin, unaffected by his insults. For this one, however, she's clearly upset by his name-calling and is unable to get over it until he apologizes.
- Even Evil Has Standards: While his relationship with Susie is almost always vitriolic, and the two are usually at odds, it's clear Calvin isn't comfortable with having actually upset her and wants to rectify the situation when he does.
- Rejected Apology: Zig-zagged. Calvin's initial apology is accepted by Susie, but when Calvin makes it feel insincere when he runs off, Susie changes her mind and demand that Calvin grovel a little bit to make them even.
