Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 114 Even The Best Detectives

Go To

Bruce is taking on an important mission, one that's clearly stressing him out, and he insists on doing it alone. Damian, concerned, gets his siblings together and they make a plan to help save Batman. At least, they think...

Tropes:

  • Bad Date: Thanks to Robin, Red Robin, Spoiler, and Signal believing Bruce was in danger, they almost end up ruining Bruce and Selina's date night. Luckily, Selina was so touched by the fireworks that this was averted.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The item underneath the table cloth is something dangerous...it was actually a table set for a nice firework viewing.
  • Fireworks of Love: The "ignition" mentioned in the Bat-Computer files was the time a bunch of fireworks would go off to provide a romantic background for Bruce and Selina's date. Thankfully, the fireworks remain untouched, and Selina finds them moving despite the wrecked dinner table.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Right before the kids start trashing the stuff under the sheet, Signal suddenly tells them to wait and then yells to stop. Using his light-related powers, Signal probably realized seconds before the others that they weren't actually destroying a trap. Moreover, the first item to be seen are red rose petals.
  • Foreshadowing: When in the Bat Computer, there's a label at the top of Bruce's files for that night reading "Conclave Felinae", next to an ignition time. A conclave is a private meeting, while felinae refers to cats. The ignition time was the time of the private meeting with the Cat.
  • Great Detective: Generally, the entirety of the Bat family is this. Not this time.
  • Hand Behind Head: Red Robin rubs the back of his head in a mixture of nerves and embarrassment while he's trying to come up with something to say to Bruce after utterly destroying his romantic dinner for Selina.
  • I Work Alone: Bruce insists on doing everything by himself, even rejecting Alfred's help, which worries the Bat-kids. They think that he's too emotionally compromised and might make a mistake. Unfortunately, it turns out that it was an "alone" thing, being a date with Selina rather than a case.
  • Not so Dire: Bruce insists on doing something alone, says it's too important to mess up, and paces frantically. When Tim looks at the last file on the Bat-Computer, he finds something about "ignition." It turns out Bruce set up a romantic rooftop dinner for himself and Selina and also set up fireworks to go off at precisely 10:00...a few minutes too late to keep the Bat-kids from destroying everything.
  • Not-So-Innocent Whistle: When Bruce comes out with Selina to find the dinner trashed, the Signal looks elsewhere, hides some crushed flowers behind his back, and whistles while Red Robin tries to save face.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Damian isn't usually openly concerned about people unless he's expressing it as part of a group (i.e. Duke's first kidnapping threat). Therefore, his open worry for his father shows just how unsettled he is to see Bruce stressed about a mission. Damian's not a normal kid, but he loves his dad!
  • Poor Communication Kills: Bruce telling his kids that he and Selina were going on a date would have kept them from worrying... although knowing his kids, he might have had a good reason not to tell them.
  • Title Drop: Tim nervously says “Even the best detectives” when Bruce and Selina stumble upon the ruined date setup.
