Princess Bubblegum searches for a cure for Marceline and Finn and Jake battle a vamp.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Once again Marceline is saved from a Vampire by the timely arrival of one of her allies. In this case Peppermint Butler running in and stabbing the Moon in the back with a stake made from a tree trunk.
  • Black Comedy: Finn repeatedly stabbing the Moon with his stake sword, complete with squishy sound effects, so long that it lasts an entire day.
  • Crashing Dreams: Marceline is dreaming of Simon and Betty as a couple, then everyone starts burping, as Finn and Jake are burping on her face while she's unconscious. (They claim that's what their father did to them.) Later, as Marceline dreams of growing old, she hears Bubblegum telling her to wake up, as the Moon is breaking into their hiding place.
  • Dream Intro: The episode opens on Marceline's dream.
  • Funny Background Event: There's a portrait in Peppermint Butler's poison room that depicts him laying on his side while flexing and wearing a speedo.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: Finn repeatedly stabbing the Moon with a stake is off-camera, which is odd since we already saw her skull get cracked open in a previous episode.
  • Healing Factor: The Moon is immune to things that would normally kill a vampire, such as sunlight and getting staked, because she heals from all her wounds immediately. Finn spends all day staking her, but can create no lasting injury, and she's killed only when Peppermint Butler "stakes her back" with a stump-sized stake, pausing her long enough for Marceline to suck out her soul.
  • It Runs on Nonsensoleum: The Moon uses her Compelling Voice to open a locker by saying "pigs" over and over again.
Princess Bubblegum: Did you just yell "pigs" at the lock until it opened?
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Peppermint Butler impales the Moon on a huge stake.
  • Lunacy: The Moon's dialogue implies she and her powers are connected to the actual moon and its light, which is a common but slightly more obscure vampire trait, although it's equally likely she was just being poetic. The ambiguity of everything about her highlights her sudden shift from The Quiet One to something darker.
  • Mondegreen: Discussed. Bonnie tells Finn and Jake "You guys take her back to the poison lab," but they're not entirely sure whether or not she said "Stake her back," as in driving a stake through her back, or "Take her back," as in luring her to the castle. Ironically, both are right, as the brothers taking the Moon back to the castle allows Peppermint Butler to stab her in the back with a massive stake while she's distracted with Bonnie and Marcy.
  • Nightmare Face: When the Moon laughs, she exposes her toothy grin.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Carry: After Marcy falls unconscious from the poison. Princess Bubblegum loades her onto her shoulder and carries her back to Peppermint Butler's poison lab.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Finn and Jake are given instructions by Bubblegum on what to do when they encounter the Moon. Problem though is they don't quite understand what she said "you guys take her back to the poison lab" or "you guys stake her back to the poison lab". She clearly meant the former, but the latter still turns out to be useful, they just didn't do it big enough.
  • Surprisingly Creepy Moment: While the other vampires were either quirky or funny in some way, the Moon has few comedic traits, speaks in the Voice of the Legion, has More Teeth than the Osmond Family, and even the main characters understand very little about her.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Despite being female and somewhat small, the Moon has an almost inhumanly deep and guttural male voice. Although it doesn't take long for her looks to match her voice.
  • Voice of the Legion: The Moon's voice.
"YOU RUN IN THE PATH OF MY LIGHT."
