Basic Trope: A violently protective/vengeful parent.
- Straight: Robert murders every criminal he sees in an attempt to keep his daughter, Alice, safe.
- Exaggerated:
- ...Even the "criminals" that really only Poke the Poodle.
- Robert wages war on an entire country to ensure his children are safe.
- Downplayed: Papa Wolf.
- Justified:
- Robert experienced an abusive childhood at it's absolute worst and he tries to give his daughter a better childhood than he had. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to exactly.
- Alice once actually was in danger, and Robert doesn't want her to have this happen again.
- Inverted: Alice is violently protective of her father.
- Subverted: Robert notices his daughter hanging out with a gang, he gets up and grabs a pistol and...just start to clean it.
- Double Subverted: Then he uses said pistol and shoots each of them (Save for Alice, of course).
- Parodied: Robert tricks a bully at Alice's school to look at a fire extinguisher so he can bash the bully's head in with it.
- Zig Zagged: One day Robert can be on a criminal-killer-killing spree to keep his daughter safe, the next he can be completely neglectful of Alice.
- Averted:
- Alice's dad is only reasonably protective.
- Alice's dad is abusive.
- Enforced: The writers of the story want to show that Alice has some parental issues without making the parents completely unsympathetic.
- Lampshaded: "Jeez, your dad is...scary."
- Invoked: Robert and Alice live in a Crapsack World run by criminals.
- Exploited: Alice can use her dad to kill anyone she doesn't agree with. After all, who's he going to believe? His daughter or some random person?
- Defied: While tempted, he really thinks Alice should grow by herself.
- Discussed:
Alice: "Why do you fight off every criminal you see?"
Robert: "Because I need to protect you and my children."
- Conversed: "Alice's father's intentions are good, but he viciously beat up a thug-wannabe for picking on his daughter."
- Deconstructed:
- Upon Alice finding out how brutal her father is, she runs away, leaving her father to wallow in his own sadness.
- Robert becomes so ruthless in his methods that he slowly becomes no better than the criminals he's murdering.
- Robert doesn’t want to see his daughter come to any harm, physical or social, and so starts seeing everyone as a potential danger to Alice. He isolates her from others, telling her that no one can ever care about her well-being like he does, and flies into a rage if she makes the smallest mistake, since her peers could make fun of her if she shows any weakness. Eventually, the only person Alice fears is Robert.
- Reconstructed: Robert finds Alice in an alleyway while thugs are attempting to gang-rape her. He then promptly kills the thugs and saves his daughter.
