Almost anytime the Lord Protector shows up onscreen everything becomes more serious and less lighthearted. He is the typical religious fanatic who believes what he is doing is what God wants but is ultimately doing the complete opposite by oppressing the people of a once independent country and wanting to kill the wolves of the forest just because he sees them as monsters, he also has no qualms about doing the same to his fellow Englishmen and is even willing to imprison or do worse to people who don’t submit to him including children. While he isn’t as murderous as the Vikings from The Secret of Kells or as emotionless as Macha from Song of the Sea, he still comes across as a terrible person in general.
The scene where Bill shoots Móll: At first things seem fine when Robyn goes back to Mebh with Móll and when both girls reconcile with Móll and the other wolves watching happily until Bill shoots her from offscreen which shocks Robyn, Mebh and the Wolves to the point where the wolves are ready to attack him just as Móll’s spirit leaves. What’s really horrifying is that Bill wasn’t aware of the consequences of what he did and Móll could’ve been Killed Off for Real if it wasn’t for the girls.
There’s something unsettling about the way Bill makes his first appearance as a wolf. He not only turns into a Wolfwalker out of being protective of his daughter when the Lord Protector tries to kill her wolf form but also from pure rage as he slowly walks towards his former boss with an angry expression on his face with sharp teeth while snarling which is the purest example of a Papa Wolf. Cromwell was really lucky that Bill just decided to drop him to his death or else something worse would’ve happened to him instead.
Mebh and Móll’s wolf pack could come across as this when they aren’t being playful or friendly.
Mebh furiously declaring war on Kilkenny for not setting her mother free and threatening to come back with all of her wolves to devour the townspeople as revenge. The townspeople are lucky that Robyn reunited the mother and daughter otherwise they all would’ve been dead. It’s also pretty nightmarish to see an innocent girl turn into a metaphorical monster.
