The tropes in Basshunter include:
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- He originally sung all in Swedish. But this changed once he became more universally recognized when he started singing fully in English.
- His music was more simplistic and stylized like internet memes.
- Europop
- Genre Shift: He creates music that is Pop-sounding and has abandoned his Dance music persona.
- In “Angels Ain’t Listening” it sounds like an 80s new wave song.
- I Need a Freaking Drink: “Beer in the Bar” is about him having a drink for the sake of looking stylish while posting music for his fans online.
- Multilingual Song: He sometimes sings in Swedish and German.
- Shout-Out:
- "Counterstrike the Mp3" contains sound effects from (mainly) Counter-Strike, Unreal Tournament and The Simpsons.
- The original version of “Dota” contains sound effects from Warcraft III, for which a user map the song is based on was created.
- The song “Life Speaks to Me” appears to be a tribute to Avicii in terms of musical style.
- Trance: Of the Eurotrance-type.
