Yuji
- Cursed doll punching Itadori. ExplanationWhile training to control Cursed Energy, Yuji has to channel the energy into a cursed doll, and the lack of it causes the doll to punch Itadori, which Itadori forgot after getting the hang of it. Fans have often interchanged Itadori with someone expressing a controversial opinion and getting punched by the doll for it.
- Suffering Builds Character Explanation Throughout the manga Yuji continuously experienced traumatic incidents, loss of loved ones, combat defeats and general misfortunes more or less since the very first chapter of the manga. Jokes are abound that this means Yuji is one of, if not the most developed character in manga history purely because of how many bad things has been heaped on him without any breaks.
- Yuji's covenant ExplanationHilariously enough, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End would not be the only anime in the Fall 2023 season to have a meme associated with LowTierGod's colorful rants. Yuji chasing a terrified Mahito in a metaphorical snowfield after their battle in Shibuya led to a slew of memes associated with LowTierGod's own rant about chasing down a viewer in the snow, especially when the anime depicted Yuji having a pack of wolves with him in a manner similar to LowTierGod's "covenant" turning into wolves in the rant. Such memes include Yuji saying lines from LowTierGod's rant, sometimes in place of his own monologue to Mahito prior to chasing him, or edits of Yuji having a gold cloak, among others.
- Where you go, I go. Explanation (Spoilers) Another meme based on Yuji's terrifying ultimatum to Mahito. The scene has erupted in popularity and is the subject of many fan edits, lot of which like to use the song "Skyfall" by Adele. People on the internet use the lyrics "where you go, I go" very casually afterwards and many have hilariously recreated the famous scene in real life, in Fortnite, and so on.
- I'm Soaked. Explanation A meme based on the unfortunate wording of Gojo's belief that Yuji will one day inherit Sukuna's techniques by being "soaked" with the latter's Cursed Energy. Its most famous usage is a screenshot of the "I'm you" panel with the words changed.
- Wuji Himtadori Explanation (Spoilers)Fans cheered on Yuji regaining his MC status as he launches a Black Flash on Sukuna.
- Left Right Goodnight/Catch These Hands. Explanation Among the fans it's funny to note how simple Yuji's powerset is compared to other shonen protagonists- for the majority of the story, he's just very good at beating the crap out of people, with fans hyping up his "Left Right Goodnight" combo.
- Benevolent ShrineExplanation (Spoilers)A fan theory based on the implication that Yuji would eventually gain Sukuna's Cursed Technique, with his Domain Expansion being "Benevolent Shrine" to contrast Sukuna's. The theory was brought up jokingly for how cheesy the name sounded, but when Yuji actually developed Sukuna's Cursed Technique then people began joking that Benevolent Shrine was confirmed.
- Kenjaku took the White Splash so that Yuji could hit the Black Flash. Kenjaku was a freak in the sheets so that Yuji could be a demon in the streets.Explanation (Spoilers)While Kenjaku being Yuji's mother was always a meme in the fanbase for its sheer absurdity, chapter 257 more or less confirming that Yuji is a Designer Baby created through Kenjaku's machinations instantly shot the whole affair up to meme status.
Megumi
- "With this treasure, I summon..." Explanation (Spoilers)This is the chant used by Megumi to summon Mahoraga. He starts to summon him several different times over the course of the first few arcs, but is always stopped one way or another. He finally does it in the Shibuya arc, and it's revealed that Mahoraga is an absurdly powerful shikigami that Megumi has absolutely no control over, and is pretty much suicidal as a result. With the revelation that trying to summon it is basically the Jujutsu equivalent of whipping out a nuke (complete with mutually assured destruction), fans looked back at his previous attempts and realized Megumi is a bit too eager to resort to it. What also helped was that in a lot of promotional material for the anime, Megumi is depicted doing the Maharoga summoning pose. Thus jokes started being made that depict Megumi trying to summon Mahoraga the moment he encounters any slight inconvenience.
- Those can't be his actual last words in the manga Explanation (Spoilers) Seconds before Sukuna possessed Megumi's body he attempted to summon Mahoraga to deal with Sukuna. With Sukuna's defeat being seemingly impossible to achieve, many have joked that the manga will end with Megumi's last action being once again failing to summon Mahoraga the one time its actually justified to summon the Shikigami.
- Still trying to summon Mahoraga, huh Explanation (Spoilers) Megumi's closed fists during his Heroic BSoD in chapter 251 immediately led to jokes that he was still attempting the summon despite being a disembodied soul by that point.
- Potential Man ExplanationA name originally given to Megumi Fushiguro, owing to the story and his fanbase tending to hype him up and then never really deliver on his stated strength, proclaiming him to actually be the superhero Potential Man, whose power is to have great potential that doesn't actually go anywhere. This has led to other manga characters being labeled Potential Man (including Toshiro Hitsugaya, Rock Lee, and Gohan), or similarly mocked characters receiving similar superhero identities (i.e. "Meet [X] Man!).
- They call me 007ExplanationA companion meme to Potential Man, that usually mocks a character's lack of feats while having a surplus of something superfluous. In Megumi's case, it's 7 attempts to summon Mahoraga. In Yuta's case, it's (at least) 7 techniques copied. Sukuna has times cheated death, so on and so forth.
- Give me liberty, give me fire, give me [X] or I retire ExplanationAnother companion meme to Potential Man, this one being a rhyme that has the character demand something (usually fodder opponents for an easy win) and threaten with them quitting if said demands aren't met. The original requests "middle schoolers," referencing Megumi's backstory feat of beating up most of the students in his middle school.
- Reverse Flash images being posted in relation to hating Megumi. ExplanationMegumi, as seen with the above memes, has gathered quite a large crowd of people who like making fun of him. This has lead to his haters being compared to the Reverse Flash, one of the most infamous haters in fiction, so images of Reverse Flash are prone to pop up on Reddit whenever Megumi is mentioned, especially if in a derogatory manner.
Gojo
- "I'll murder you!" ExplanationNanami's imagination of Gojo has him saying this in an extremely cheery manner, in a complete Art-Style Dissonance. Often used for posts regarding Tranquil Fury or as a threat by the fandom.
- KFC breakup. ExplanationA twitter user pointed out that Gojo and Geto's meeting in Chapter 78 took place at a real street in Japan known as Memory Lane. The spot they were standing in more specifically lines them up with the location of the real-life Kentucky Fried Chicken. Fans naturally relished in this fact and joked about the restaurant holding significance to the duo. Became an Ascended Meme with the anime depicting the scene in front of a (Writing Around Trademarks) KFC.
- Gojo's death is framed in a very sudden and even morbidly comical way that lends itself perfectly to memes. The scene, perhaps due to how many people were upset because of it, saw hundreds if not thousands of edits and redraws of the infamous panel, swapping out the characters, changing the mediums and altering the textboxes, to name a few.
- The amount of Ho Yay Gojo and Geto had in season 2 led to memes in social media according to Polygon that the main couple of the series broke up.
- <X> wakes up in an airport Explanation (Spoilers)The infamously sudden and rushed nature of Gojo's defeat and death, which begins with him waking up in an airport surrounded by his deceased allies and claiming that he was somehow unable to make his killer go all-out despite having Sukuna on the ropes, has led to anime fans of all stripes claiming that characters in any ongoing manga who seem poised for victory will end up doing the same next chapter.
- "Nah, I'd win." Explanation (Spoilers)Gojo's assurance that he could beat Sukuna quickly became a source of jokes following his Surprisingly Sudden Death at the latter's hands, with the phrase in question being used in all kinds of contexts to joke about how someone can succeed at or win something when they blatantly have no chance. Similarly, fans of all kinds of different series have created edits and redraws of characters saying the line prior to them canonically losing a fight or failing a certain task and getting trounced and/or killed for it.
- Are you [X] because you're [Y]? Or are you [Y] because you're [X]? Explanation During the parting conversation between Gojo and Geto, Geto asks Gojo "Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo? Or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?" Fans took that quote and ran with it, replacing "Satoru Gojo" and "The Strongest" with whatever they wanted.
- [X character] fans/haters... stay on that side. Explanation (Spoilers) A formerly common variation on the Gojo/Geto parting conversation that originated during the Sukuna vs Gojo fight, where the original poster warned Gojo fans to "stay on Gojo's side" if Sukuna wins. Since then, the format has been used to hype other characters up (by warning haters of a character to not suddenly swap sides when the character in question did something cool or won the fight), until it was thoroughly discredited when Kashimo, who was one of the characters most hyped by the meme, only lasted two chapters against Sukuna and became a Memetic Loser that utterly failed to live up to the expectations. From that point on, any instance of the meme were shunned as simply Tempting Fate.
- Throughout [X] and [Y], I/You alone am the [Z] one. ExplanationDuring Gojo's second fight against Toji, Gojo quotes the Buddha during his Power High by saying, "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one". The Signature Scene status of thjjk volume moment later drove fans to make various snowclones of the quote, replacing "Heaven", "Earth", and "honored" with various words.
- "Did you pray today?" / Gojo Backshots Explanation(NSFW)A series of viral fandubs made by the Youtuber King Soda, in which whenever a guy bends over to pick something up, Gojo shows up and asks if they prayed today... And if they didn't, cue him giving them "backshots", which edits footage of Gojo with his hands raised behind his head during his Power High before he had his rematch with Toji while Ricch Forever plays, barring a few exceptions.
- Gojo is ugly now/Gege forgot how to draw Explanation When the 26 volume's cover was revealed half the fanbase exploded with shock and criticisms towards Gojo's elongated jawline and goofy smirk. The focus on his jaw drew in jokes related to mogging/mewing as well as a comparison to Dream's face reveal. Some speculate Gege made him look that way on purpose as his last laugh to send off the character's death. A wave of artists, mostly the female fanbase members, took in to 'fix' the cover by making Gojo look handsome as he is usually depicted, however this was mostly met with backlash as some felt it was insulting to Gege as an artist.
- Gojo is racist Explanation An over-exaggeration of Gojo's actions throughout the manga, notable in two instances - and both towards Miguel. The first in the Cursed Child movie where Gojo gives Miguel a violent beatdown, where the clip is used out of context to convey racially aggravated violence. The second event is debatable more funny due to it actually being racist within context - Chapter 255 shows a flashback of Gojo discussing with Miguel the difference in capabilities between Japanese sorcerers and the rest of the world, in which he then comments on Miguel's physique, calling his ethnic physical features scary. Miguel takes this as a racist stereotype and does not take kindly to it because it demeans his identity to just being black. People jokingly believe that this chapter was a display of Gege's hatred towards Gojo, or a way to give the audience a reason to hate him too so people would stop crying about his death.
- Hollow Purple Emoji ResponseExplanationAn occasional joke response to people bothering someone in a chat room for JJK fans is to effectively recreate the sequence for Hollow Purple in emojis (The combo of messages can vary, but it basically comes down to a hand with a red circle emoji followed by one with a blue circle emoji, then pushing the two together and ending with a hand and a purple circle emoji)
Sukuna
- Simpkuna Explanation Fans like to imply Sukuna's interest in Megumi isn't because he wants his help for a plan, but rather because he's In Love With His Carnage. Which spawned various sub-jokes, such as Uraume being a Clingy Jealous Girl or Toji rising from the grave to give him a colossal beating.
- Fraudkuna Explanation (Spoilers)As the long-awaited Gojo vs. Sukuna fight has progressed with no clear dominating combatant, fans have started taking the piss out of Sukuna for "looking weak" now that he's finally fighting someone on his level and for his reliance on the borrowed Ten Shadows technique to win, leading to memes of his Domain Expansion just being Disneyland, him barely posing a threat to weak characters he hasn't interacted with up until this point, and so on. Even his victory over Gojo didn't help with the allegations, with memes depicting, among other things, the only reason Sukuna won was that he summoned Gege and forced the mangaka to make him win. The meme had another resurgence in Chapter 256, in where Sukuna not only failed to kill Maki, Larue, and Choso with his Black Flashes, but also gets hit by Yuji's Black Flash, immediately dampening his cursed output again after the aforementioned Black Flashes.
- It's Gojover Explanation (Spoilers)What the fandom exclaims whenever it looks like Gojo is on the losing end of the battle. It's become a meme in itself to alternate between "Fraudkuna" and "It's Gojover" whenever one of the fighters has the Advantage Ball. The term has had a resurgence following the defeat and apparent death of Satoru Gojo in chapter 236.
- "Run Sukuna my son, we can't beat Goatjo" Explanation (Spoilers) After Sukuna begins using Mahoraga as a Crutch Character in the second phase of the battle with Gojo, people have begun making jokes and edits about Mahoraga as Sukuna's dad trying to save his son from Gojo. Lampshaded by Gojo once Sukuna summons another huge Monstrous Humanoid in Agito, saying he looks like a lost little alien boy. Agito's markedly female-looking body immediately made people default to depicting it as Sukuna's Mama Bear and drew fanart of him being grief-struck by its death and Mahoraga comforting him when it was quickly destroyed.
- Sukuna the Unwanted Child Explanation (Spoilers) As detailed above, memes started circulating portraying Sukuna as having acquired the Ten Shadows technique specifically so he could generate a family for himself, as well as him being portrayed like a petulant child due to him resorting to throwing a fire extinguisher at Gojo and generally being depicted as an infant. Things were made even worse when Kamutoke was revealed, with people pointing out that it resembled a baby rattle.
- SO YOU'RE TELLING ME SUKUNA COULD HAVE ENDED IT HERE?!?! With Strong cleave Explanation (Spoilers)A particular post expressing total confusion at why Sukuna didn't just cleave through Gojo's Infinity before the Ass Pull was almost immediately parodied, with posts asking why Sukuna didn't just 'Strong cleave' Gojo in increasingly absurd situations, from when Gojo was a baby, to when he was only a sperm, even to when living organisms first adapted to living on land. This is also where the Fan Nickname of referring to Sukuna's new dimensional Cleave (actually a Dismantle) as "Strong Cleave" comes from.
- Domain Expansion Explanation (Spoilers)Another increasingly-infamous aspect of Gojo vs. Sukuna is the two fighters absolutely spamming Domain Expansion while prior fights had seen, at most, 1-2 usages of it from either side due to it being a last resort for multiple reasons. This, coupled with the observing characters' detailed breakdowns of the minute interactions occurring with each usage, has led to memes of characters in other media responding to emotionally-charged or famous moments with the phrase, such as (due to the chapter releasing concurrently with the meme's rise) Uraraka saying it to Toga when the latter asks if she's cute.
- Plotkuna / Sukuna Kaisen Explanation (Spoilers)Following the very controversial conclusion to Gojo vs Sukuna, many have criticized the writing around Sukuna for relying on perceived plot armor that allows him to get around everything the good guys throw at him, particularly in the wake of moments like Higuruma's Domain Expansion only confiscating Sukuna's Cursed Tool given to him by Yorozu and leaving him his other techniques, or Yuji stabbing him with the Executioner Sword only for it to fade away before the blow landed. He's often semi-jokingly referred to as Gege's self-insert or Meal Ticket. More or less the successor of Fraudkuna, the fandom moving on from Sukuna being weak to Sukuna being the Creator's Pet.
- Gege offscreen this person's entire family Explanation (Spoilers)A gif featuring a viral clip from a 2021 NBA game during which LeBron points to two courtside fans while gesturing to a referee. This clip would eventually become the Kill This Man With Hammers meme, this version featuring Sukuna demanding Gege Akutami kill off the individuals' families offscreen, referring to how Gojo was Killed Offscreen.
- "Ah, yes. My anti-[X] Technique. I haven't used this one since the Heian Era." ExplanationFans have begun joking that Sukuna has some sort of knowledge/cursed technique/cursed object from the Heian Era that allows him to counter whatever the heroes throw at him. Examples include a technique that forces Toji to pay child support, a technique that forces Hakari to go to rehab for his gambling problem, and a cursed car that he can use to kill Rika. Tend to be associated with this picture of him.
- "Ah, yes. My anti-my-own-technique technique. I haven't used this since the Heian Era." Explanation (spoilers)The logical conclusion of the "Ah yes, my anti-X technique" meme: the claim that Sukuna is so absurdly Crazy-Prepared that he developed a technique for dealing with his own cursed technique.
- "Ah, yes. The N-Word. I haven't used this since the Heian Era." Explanation (spoilers) Fans started joking about this after Miguel reappeared in Chapter 254, claiming Sukuna can just defeat him by being racist.
- Sukuna was totally holding back all this time guys trust me Explanation (Spoilers)A sarcastic observation made by the fandom after copious amounts of characters stated that Sukuna was Just Toying with Them, with them comically downplaying Sukuna's setbacks as All According to Plan. Examples include Sukuna totally just deciding to have his Domain Expansion backfire on him after getting hit with Unlimited Void, that him fainting after Gojo landed a heavy hit on him was him just taking a nap in the middle of the fight, and that he decided to bleed out of his eyes just because he felt 'a little goofy', and so on.
- "Stand proud, you're strong." ExplanationIn a similar vein to "Nah, I'd win," Sukuna's Worthy Opponent comment towards Jogo has been the source for all kinds of different edits, frequently substituting Sukuna and Jogo out with characters from different series - or, as seen below, with each other.
- As the strongest curse, JoGOAT, fought the fraud, the king of curses, he began to open his domain. Sukuna shrunk back in fear, then Jogo said "Stand proud, Sukuna. You are strong." ExplanationA popular copypasta swapping Jogo and Sukuna's places in their fight, with Jogo being the one who's acknowledging Sukuna as a Worthy Opponent instead. Variations are often made on the copypasta, substituting characters from various fictional works in Jogo and Sukuna's place
- Malevolent Kitchen explanationIn episode 41 of the anime, Crunchyroll translated Sukuna's Domain Expansion "Fukuma Mizushi" as "Malevolent Kitchen" instead of the usual translation, "Malevolent Shrine". While there is some merit to the translation, it sounds rather silly in English, and is rather jarring if you're used to the other translation. As a result many memes were made, such as depicting Sukuna cooking in a kitchen, or putting his markings on Gordon Ramsay due to the similarity to Hell's Kitchen.
- Sukunella. ExplanationTikTok user cloudstrifesimp uploaded a series of edits shipping various male characters from JJK with Disney Princesses of all characters. The most outlandish pairing to come from said series is easily that of Sukuna, the bloodthirsty and sadistic villain, and the kindhearted Nice Girl Cinderella. Like Mordetwi before it, the ship has managed to gain a bit of a following and even its own Portmanteau Couple Name.
- Sukuna's stare ExplanationAfter executing his 0.2-second Domain Expansion in Shibuya and once again encountering Sukuna in his Innate Domain, Mahito brags that he'd kill Yuji before the King of Curses could make any move to save him. All Sukuna does during Mahito's visit is stare at him with an amused smile, knowing full well the younger curse is in for a crushing defeat at his host's hands and is simply waiting to watch it happen. The image or screencap of Sukuna hearing Mahito's boast became popularized as a reaction image following the anime's airing of the scene, being used to express amusement in response to someone else saying something blatantly incorrect or stupid.
- You were magnificent [X]. I will never forget you as long as I live. Explanation (Spoilers)The panel revealing Gojo's defeat by Sukuna, with the latter complimenting his ability, is often subject to redraws and edits replacing the characters with others, such as Yuta or Miwa killing both Sukuna and Kenjaku.
- The Sukuna Cycle Explanation (Spoilers) The Fan Nickname for the Arc Fatigue many fans felt during the final fight against Sukuna, where a character shows up to fight Sukuna, does well, but is then quickly defeated and gravely injured/possibly killed when Sukuna gets tired of them. The meme already existed by the time it was Kusakabe's turn to fight Sukuna, but exploded in popularity once Miguel, of all people, showed up immediately afterwards.
- MIGUEL. WHAT.Explanation (Spoilers)As mentioned above, the breaking point for many fans was seeing Miguel - a character who had previously only appeared in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and was by all means irrelevant and completely nonexistent in the current story - show up to fight Sukuna. As a result of this, an edited image◊ of Kashimo's entrance into the fight got pretty popular as a way to show the shock and confusion of seeing Miguel fight Sukuna.
- Just wait until this mf pulls up on Sukuna Explanation (Spoilers)Given that both Kusakabe and Miguel were made to fight Sukuna, people began to joke that Akutami was running out of people to throw at him and is willing to use anyone from Utahime to Awasaka to even the bakery girl from Nanami's flashbacks. It's also common to make edits of the aformentioned "MIGUEL. WHAT" meme with other characters in his/Kashimo's place.
- Getting drafted to fight Sukuna ExplanationFans have begun joking that, as Gege is rapidly running out of characters who can actually fight Sukuna, they're going to start drafting members of the JJK fanbase to fight Sukuna so that Gege can keep the Sukuna Cycle going
- Traigan a los gallos TranslationBring on the roosters ExplanationThe Spanish speaking counterpart of the previous meme, fans started pitching their characters (the gallos in question - as in cockfighthing) from other anime series, if not from all of fiction itself, that should show up to join the fight against Sukuna. Examples include Goku, Deku, Saitama, The Avengers or even such ludicrous characters like Sportacus or Buff Spongebob Squarepants. A notable variation includes recreating the Endgame Portals meme with all characters ready to help Yuji
- Thukuna, King of Curtheth Explanation (Spoilers)In the Blu-Ray release of Episode 41, there is a close quarter combat scene in where Sukuna keeps using feints to trick Mahoraga into evading and playing more on the defensive. However, it didn't take long for Mahoraga to adapt, so he was able to perform a bluff of his own. Naturally, this surprised Sukuna, prompting a somewhat ridiculous smile on his face, that spawned countless memes, especially on Tik-Tok. This goofy, child-like smile, which makes it funnier since Sukuna is classified as a Special-Grade curse (A special-need), was edited so Sukuna was either two-toothed or one-toothed. Thus, his name and title "Sukuna, King of Curses" was deformed into a nerdier-sounding version, "Thukuna, King of Curtheth". These Thukuna edits are usually accompanied by the song Good Morning by Baby Jayy.
- Unclekuna Explanation (Spoilers)In chapter 257, it was revealed that Yuji's father, Jin Itadori, is the reincarnation of Sukuna's twin brother whom he ate in the womb, technically making Sukuna Yuji's uncle. As you would expect, this lead to a massive slew of jokes. A variation even includes Chisato from Lycoris Recoil as another relative of Sukuna/Yuji since her Japanese VA is the cousin of Yuji's Japanese VA in real life.
- Sukuna the Hater. ExplanationSukuna's contemptuous loathing of Itadori gradually became more and more hilarious to the fandom as Sukuna kept underestimating or writing off Itadori as little more than a "brat" during the Shinjuku Showdown arc. As this begins to bite him in the ass due to Yuji displaying his skill growth and determination and Sukuna's injuries building up, fandom kept stacking on jokes of how much of a bitter hater Sukuna was, having him praise far weaker opponents for pulling off feats only to off-handedly dismiss Itadori doing a similar thing. It's lead to Sukuna gaining a reputation in the wider anime/manga fandom as a hater on the level of the Reverse Flash or Dio.
- "Nah, I'd Binding Vow." ExplanationSukuna, throughout the Shinjuku Showdown arc, tosses out Binding Vows like candy in order to maintain a lead over the rest of the sorcerers. Compared to the rest of the cast almost never- if ever- using Binding Vows and often paying high prices for them (such as Miwa never being allowed to use a katana again after attacking Kenjaku at Shibuya), Sukuna's hyper-reliance on them contributed to the Fraudkuna and Plotkuna memes, as fans began saying Sukuna would make the trade-off for the Binding Vow an irrelevant consequence to him in exchange for a full-power buff, such as not being allowed to use his right arms to maintain a Domain Expansion when his right arms were currently destroyed.
Yuta
- Academy Award Winner for Best Actor Yuta Okkotsu Explanation (Spoilers)]Throughout the Itadori Execution Arc, Yuta was depicted as being sent to kill Yuji as ordered by the Jujutsu Higher-ups, with Yuta successfully stabbing Yuji to death in Chapter 141. Come chapter 143, Yuta heals Yuji back to life, effectively revealing that Yuta is a Big Good all along. The fandom instantly makes memes out of Yuta being a 'great actor' for it.
- Yuta "NO BITCHES?" Okkotsu Explanation (Spoilers)During the Sendai Colony arc, a play on the "NO BITCHES?" meme from Megamind became popular online once fans began jokingly characterizing Yuta a womanizer after he asked Uro whether she had a lover in her past life, with his tone being interpreted as one of mockery. His Ship Tease with Maki and Uro herself, along with the big kisses he planted on both Rika and Kurourushi, created the humorous image of Yuta as a harem protagonist who makes fun of others for not getting laid.
- stressed bitch with anxiety Explanation (Spoilers)While Gojo and Sukuna's fight at the tail end of the Culling Games has all of the main cast on edge, it's Yuta's increasingly stressed and anxious reactions to practically any turn of events that made the fandom peg him as being scared shitless over Gojo losing and him being first in line to fight Sukuna.
- Yuta the lolicon ExplanationSince Rika is perpetually 10 due to being dead, Yuta has a lot of jokes thrown his way about being into that. Some fans even insist that they are, for all intents and purposes, still in a relationship (and that Rika for some reason didn't age mentally alongside Yuta). The less said about that, the better.
- Yuta hiding in the bushes Explanation (Spoilers)In the immediate aftermath of Kenjaku's "battle" with Takaba in the woods, Yuta seemingly kills Kenjaku by sneaking up on him and beheading him. Fans quickly began joking that Yuta had been hiding in the bushes waiting for a chance to attack while Kenjaku and Takaba fought, with common jokes being that he was camping for three chapters straight, that his true cursed techique was just hiding in a bush, or that he is capable of killing any other character in a fight, as long as he has a bush to hide in beforehand. Comparisons to people who camp in FPS games where the tactic is common, like Fortnite, were also drawn.
- "I will kill myself/I will kill [X] myself"Explanation (Spoilers)An edit of the panel of Yuta Okkotsu declaring himself as Yuji Itadori's executioner that removes his name from the speech bubble. It's used to show dismay or despair over tragic events that happen in the series, such as the death of a popular, beloved character. Another variation, swapping out names for hated characters, or more often Gege Akutami (as a variation on the "Gege when I catch you Gege meme), is also pretty common.
- Yuta is the Bone of his Sword. Explanation (Spoilers)Yuta's domain was immediately compared to Archer's Reality Marble from Fate/stay night (memetic as it is in its own right) due to its visual similarities.
- "Ah, yes. Your Technique. You haven't used this since the Heian Era." / "Ah yes, my- is that my fucking technique?!" Explanation (spoilers)Yuta copying Cleave during his battle with Sukuna led to fans twisting the "Ah yes, my anti-X technique" meme around, complete with drawing Yuta in the same style as the meme's original template art for Sukuna. The meme either quotes Yuta's mocking version of the line, or Sukuna initially having a delayed reaction before freaking out at Yuta having used Copy on his Cursed Technique. This gains greater hilarity/irony when considering Sukuna is voiced by Jun'ichi Suwabe, the same as Archer/EMIYA
- Yuta's classroom entrance. Explanation The animated adaptation of the 0 manga includes a scene◊ where Yuta first meets Maki, Panda and Inumaki, with all three immediately snapping alert when they sense Yuta's cursed energy and can feel Rika hanging around him. This is often used in memes to reflect someone having such rancid vibes that it's kill on sight.
Other
- BESTO FURENDO! Explanation practically everything that comes out of Aoi Todo's mouth is Meme-material.
- In a similar vein to the Blood Blockade Battlefront ending theme, the first ending "Lost in Paradise" became a popular subject of parody, with the characters being replaced by ones from different series.
- Sorcery Fight. ExplanationA meme originating from Twitter, used by fans of the series against false information about Jujutsu Kaisen, claiming that they are reading a completely different manga called "Sorcery Fight", which is the literal English translation of Jujutsu Kaisen.
- Panda doing parkour in the first opening, “Kaikai Kitan.”
- "Slutty Waist" ExplanationThe moment Toji's anime design, complete with a sculpted physique out of a bodybuilding magazine in a Form-Fitting Wardrobe was revealed on Twitter and in the trailer for the second season of the Mappa adaptation, let's just say the Estrogen Brigade went feral. To further explain "slutty waist" tends to be a term used (mostly by gay men or women) to refer to when men have a rather narrow, often toned, waist. As Toji has a bodybuilder-esque V-taper, he sunk squarely into this category.
- Kenjaku revealing he possessed the body of Yuji's mother led to a whole slew of jokes about him unwittingly Becoming the Mask and fooling himself into thinking his relationship and possible romance with Mr. Itadori was all according to his master plan.
- Jin Itadori, Sex God Explanation (Spoilers and NSFW) Due to how Kenjaku conceived Yuji with him, Jin is often memetically considered to be a Sex God who managed to be such a good lay that he domesticated a 1000-year old bodyhopping curse user, even if only for a while. For a while, fan renditions of Kenjaku's defeat involved Jin Itadori somehow coming Back from the Dead and having sex with Kenjaku so good that the curse user switches sides on the spot.
- Jumpjutsu Kaisen ExplanationPeople have noticed that the heroes in this series, in contrast to many other shonen series, have no qualms about simply jumping the bad guys in a group and beating the crap out of them.
- Tuca Donka explanationHakari begins to dance while fighting Kashimo, which spread like wildfire due to the sheer ballsy disrespect Hakari displays and made for prime material for phonk edits and fan animations of the fight; the dance in particular was soon animated into a reaction GIF.
- "Hakari does not listen to phonk" explanationBecause of how viral Hakari's fight became without even being adapted yet, JJK fans started genuinely advocating for his theme in season 3 to be a phonk track similar to Tuca Donka. However, what non-manga readers have missed is the context that during the scene where he fights Kashimo, the diegetic music for the scene would realistically be the theme song from 'Private Pure Love Train' which kicks off every time Hakari gets a jackpot in his Domain and acts as a crucial timer during the fight. There's plenty anticipation for Hakari's fight by anime-only watchers who've only experienced Hakari's scenes through MMV's and memes, while long-time manga readers are anticipating the amusing audience reaction when they expect a hardcore trap beat to accompany the fight but are in fact met with a cheesy anime romcom OP theme.
- Hakari the Androgyny Hunter.explanationHakari's relationship with Kirara, a trans woman, and his major fights being against Kashimo (who many fans had difficulty telling was a guy at first) and Uraume (who is deliberately referred to with gender-neutral pronouns), have lead to fans to refer to him jokingly as collecting the androgynous characters of the story for his harem.
- "Shut up [X], Strong [Y]" Explanation An offshoot of the original Strong Cleave meme where an image of Joe Biden doing the equally memetic Biden Blast attack is edited into different characters doing their signature attacks, with Y being the attacks name such as "Strong Hollow Purple", "Strong Jacob's Ladder" etc.
- Gege when I catch you Gege ExplanationAn expression used by fans to jokingly (or not) threaten Gege in response to him killing off another fan favorite. Depending on the user, it could be either an Angrish "When I catch you...!" with no explanation of what will be done, or a The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You take on the common "X when Y" reaction image caption.
- Maki in the cuck chair ExplanationFanart depicting Maki sitting in the corner watching Yuta and Rika having sex has pretty much gone viral in the fanbase for its sheer absurdity.
- Lobotomy Kaisen ExplanationA term used to refer to the way the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom makes nigh-on incomprehensible memes and edits, especially during a break week, made particularly pronounced after the events of Chapter 236 which is when Jujutsu Kaisen memes exploded all over the internet.
- Lobotomy [X] ExplanationOnce Jujutsu Kaisen memes start spreading into other fandoms, inspiring fans from those fandoms to make JJK-inspired memes about the works represented by their respective fandoms, fans begin to nickname those works by replacing the first word in the work's name with "Lobotomy". This eventually caused some overlap with the Lobotomy Corporation and, by extension, the greater Project Moon fanbase as well due to similar naming.
- Todo Turbulence Explanation During Todo's fight against Mahito, there's a moment where Todo performs Boogie Woogie while both of his hands are occupied, and it is never explained how he was able to do this. While the more commonly accepted explanation is that he used the "clap" of Mahito's hand against his stomach, some people have joked that he actually clapped his ass cheeks to perform Boogie Woogie in a way similar to the viral Turbulence video.
- You are my Specialz~Explanation (Spoilers)The anime put the Shibuya Incident arc opening in the scene where Yuji had a mental breakdown after regaining control over his body and remembering all the people killed by Sukuna during his rampage (thousands of civilians and about half a dozen Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits), prompting fans to put the song in all kinds of traumatizing situations both in and out of the series itself, such as Nobara's 'death' or Firefly's 'death' in Honkai: Star Rail.
- Justice for Nanami Explanation (Spoilers) Nanami's death was one of the most shocking and heartbreaking parts of the Shibuya Incident arc. It's made all the more sad upon him talking of his dream of moving to and living in Malaysia in a small house moments before his demise. Later on, it shows Mei-Mei, a contrastly divisive and less heroic character, safe and relaxing in Malaysia all of places at a high-end hotel. Fans were vocally upset about the unfairness of it all, saying Nanami, a kind-hearted noble character, deserved better than the self-serving, greedy Mei-Mei.
- Nanami at the beach. Explanation (Spoilers) During Nanami's last stand against Mahito's transfigured humans in the Shibuya Incident, the anime adaptation includes him imagining himself on the beaches of Malaysia, relaxing, at peace and genuinely happy to contrast with the circumstances he's in. The shots of Nanami on the beach quickly became a meme for someone conveying how free they feel. In general after Nanami's death, fanart of him relaxing on beaches skyrocketed in the aftermath.
- Choso tweaking. Explanation The anime's adaptation of Choso's breakdown is often paired with Your New Home from The Amazing Digital Circus and with the Suffering Cat meme placed alongside it, showing an accurate depiction both of the community's descent into madness and their incomprehensible nature from an outside perspective.
- The strongest [X] in history vs the strongest [X] of today. Explanation (Spoilers)A panel featuring Gojo and Sukuna standing off, with the characters and their profession often being swapped out, such as a version featuring r/jujutsufolk and r/batmanarkham fighting over the title of most insane subreddit.
- The strongest sorcerer in history vs the strongest sorcerer remaining. Explanation (SPOILERS)Following chapter 253, Maki has been hit with a Black Flash, and now, with all the other main characters either off fighting other opponents or incapacitated, it falls to Kusakabe, of all people, to fight Sukuna in a 1-on-1 match. And not just a normal Sukuna, but a Sukuna boosted by a Black Flash. Fans quickly began memeing on just how insane this matchup was, and how absolutely screwed the good guys are now that Kusakabe has to 1v1 Sukuna.
- Kashimo in general has become a Fountain of Memes after his demotion into a Memetic Loser by the fanbase:
- Kashimo the Farmer Killer Explanation (Spoilers)After only lasting two chapters against Sukuna, fans began comedically downplaying Kashimo's strength, claiming that the only reason he seemed strong was that he only fought against "farmers and plumbers" who did jujutsu on the side as an hobby. This meme is spinned off professional sports, where various old Hall of Famers would get discredited by saying that their competition only played the sport on the side.
- Throughout the Pans and the Batter, I alone am the Waffled One. Explanation (Spoilers)Snowcloned from Gojo's Badass Boast during his second fight against Toji, people started referring to Hajime "Old MacDonald" Kashimo as the waffled one due to him tragically dying via being cleaved into square cubes, giving him the appearance of a waffle. The waffle house has truly found its new host.
- Kashemo ExplanationA certain fan artist drew Kashimo, in his own words, "a bit too cute", which, combined with him being a common victim of Viewer Gender Confusion for most first-time readers, resulted in the community immediately embracing the idea that Kashimo is actually a femboy. Amongst other things, it is wildly accepted that Kashimo's androgyny was the only reason Hakari spared him.
- Memes related to the notoriously awful tie-in game Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash:
- "Nah, I'd refund / Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the scammed one." Explanation The most common "reviews" on the Steam page for Cursed Clash, which set a record for the most Steam refunds in 4 days.
- Gollum but it's animeExplanationGiven how rare shitty licensed games are in The New '20s, the overwhelmingly negative reception of Cursed Clash brings The Lord of the Rings: Gollum's legendary badness to mind and easily qualifies it as a "Gollumlike", to the point of crossover memes. This also makes Vinesauce Vinny's made-up "Collect 5 fingers" mission objective for Gollum oddly prescient given the premise of Jujutsu Kaisen.
- Low Taper Fade redraws Explanation Redraws from various series of an original piece of fanart in which Choso is styling Todou's hair.
- That One Chinese Sorcerer Even Sukuna Is Afraid OfExplanation A YouTube comment claims that there's a Chinese jujutsu sorcerer that even Sukuna fears/feared, but which was never shown on-screen. People immediately began taking the piss out of it due to the complete lack of evidence for the statement, with people speculating that this mysterious sorcerer is actually Kusakabe, Panda, or even Quanxi from Chainsaw Man.
- Miguel Odor Explanation While other translations of the manga Romanised his name as 'Oduol', Viz's official translation by John Werry localised it as 'Oduor' instead. While both translations are valid African names, people thought the latter was the weirder choice because it sounds like the word odor, essentially making Miguel's full name sound like you're describing 'the smell of Miguel'. A common joke surrounding this is drawing a comparison to Axe Africa body spray deodorant.
- Hakari and Uraume just chilling/Hakari the Staller. Explanation Hakari and Uraume have been fighting off-screen for nearly the entire Shinjuku Showdown Arc, with only the occasional check-in to confirm that the fight is still going strong. As this has been over half a year in real-time, the fandom has begun joking that, at some point, they both got bored and just started doing other things like watching the Sukuna fight or even hooking up with each other and fleeing to Malaysia like Mei Mei did. This also lead to Hakari getting a variety of slander posts made about his inability to finish off Uraume, leading to him being declared a glorified staller.
- Reliable Man. Explanation As a counterpoint to the "Potential Man" memes that make fun of Megumi and mock his very existence, Choso has been one of the more consistently beloved characters in the series, leading to a splinter meme that hypes him up as "Reliable Man," able to back up his claims and prove one of the most trustworthy characters to have in your corner.
