Tropes about people trying to improve their homes.
Not the tropes for the television series, Home Improvement.
Tropes:
- And Your Reward Is Interior Decorating: A video game rewards the player with furniture they can use to decorate their home.
- Barn Raising: An Amish community comes together to build a barn (or at least any other large building).
- Cool Garage: A visually and/or technologically impressive garage. Perfect to park your Cool Car in.
- Cool House: A really, really awesome house.
- Crooked Contractor: Contractors are portrayed as crooked weasels who put an incredibly small amount of effort in their work and overcharge their clients.
- D.I.Y. Disaster: Someone attempts to repair something in their house, but when they try to use it, it activates something else instead.
- Do-It-Yourself Plumbing Project: Someone tries to fix the plumbing. Keyword being “tries”.
- Doom It Yourself: Instead of calling a professional to take care of a problem in the house, someone else insists that they’ll fix it themselves, which always goes horribly.
- Duct Tape for Everything: The belief that absolutely ANY problem can be fixed by slapping duct tape on it.
- Hacker Cave: A hacker character typically lives in their own makeshift Mad Science Lab.
- Handy Man: A character who’s a whiz at D.I.Y. and construction.
- Home and Garden: Feel-good shows about giving houses/gardens a makeover.
- A Homeowner Is You: A video game gives you the option of buying your own house.
- An Interior Designer Is You: A video game lets the player customize their own room however they want.
- Over The Top Christmas Decorations: Someone’s house is extravagantly decorated for the holidays.
- Poster Patchup: Hanging something up on the wall to (conspicuously) cover up something that happened to it.
- Renovating the Player Headquarters: The player character’s house (or at least some kind of dwelling) can be upgraded and expanded at a later point in the game.
- Ridiculously Fast Construction: Something takes an unrealistically short time to be built.
