Funny / The Chronicles of Prydain

Go To

  • While travelling with Gwydion in Book 1, Taran hears a scuffling sound and immediately dives for it. Into a thornbush. The results are predictably painful.
  • Pretty much any time Fflewddur gets carried away, and the others (usually his harp) have to calm him down.
    • For that matter, just about any time Fflewddur rapidly walks back what he says, such as at the end of Book 1, when he's narrating the final battle and how he was courageously fighting numerous hordes of enemies with daring and fearlessness... (harp strings tense all at once) "Absolutely green. Terrified to the gills."
  • In Book 2, Taran tells Eilonwy (eager to go off on another adventure) to Stay in the Kitchen. Immediately afterwards, Ellidyr comes in and says the same thing. Taran then wheels on Ellidyr and tells him off for talking that way to Eilonwy.
  • When Taran finally proposes to Eilonwy, her reaction is a nonplussed, essentially, "well, of course I will, what took you so long?"
  • Gwydion commenting on Coll's baldness to a Wrong Genre Savvy Taran:
"I have never known courage to be judged by the length of a man's hair. Or indeed, whether he has any hair at all."
  • There is something darkly funny in the final book when Taran manages to draw Dyrnwyn, since the whole time at the back of his mind he's marveling over the fact that he's still alive.
  • Orddu, Orwen, and Orgoch are a constant source of (sometimes dark) funny moments, especially the latter's stomach.
