  • In the audio adaptation of the first book, the need for characters to vocalize things formerly handled by the original book's narration leads to a rather humorous moment during the raid on Tiff's brothel. Since there's no narration, the task of describing a Viis Patroller bursting into the room instead falls to the pair of Kelth prostitutes helping Elrabin hide. They greet him by flirtatiously praising him as 'a rough one', before noting that he's armed with a stun stick. They then excitedly ask if he wants to use it on them, or if he wants them to use it on him.
  • Shortly after the above scene, when the Patrollers attempt to interrogate Elrabin - who is waking up from a tranquilizer given by the prostitutes to prevent him from panicking - he groggily tells them to go fertilize a Toth. It doesn't help his case.
  • Some time later when Elrabin is later caught running drugs, it turns out he was used as a decoy and given suspicious-looking bundles of dirt to distract the Viis Patrollers from the actual runner. Although the Patrollers are well aware what Elrabin is involved in, he still protests that there's nothing illegal about carrying dirt.
  • In the third book, a Viis soldier fears he may have been exposed to a strain of the Dancing Death weaponized by abiru rebels. When he reports this to his sergeant, the sergeant shoots him dead just to be safe. When the sergeant reports what happened to lieutenant, the lieutenant promptly shoots him dead for the exact same reason. The lieutenant is then approached by another squad demanding to know what is happening, and when the lieutenant answers that the Dancing Death may have spread among his forces the other squad proceeds to gun him down as well.
  • Also in the third book, the Freedom Network begins distributing data crystals teaching the true histories of the abiru peoples free from Viis censorship. In addition to Ampris reading an ancient treaty and the archivist Quiesl condensing Myal history, Elrabin is practically press-ganged into reciting some Kelth poetry. The same Kelth that has launched several rescue missions and is embroiled in a rebellion against an interstellar empire is stiff with nervousness at reading poetry, and ends up mumbling his way through.
