- According to Michael Cudlitz, Negan's selection of his victim wasn't random at all; Negan methodically used his game of "eenie meanie minie mo" as a front to observe each group member's reaction to having Lucille pointed at them and determine who would be the logical choice to take out. He ended up picking Abraham, as he was one of the few to remain defiant — defiance being something Negan obviously resented since it painted them as both a potential threat and someone who wouldn't submit. The Fridge Brilliance kicks in when you consider that Daryl, the other character who would likely have been defiant in the face of Negan's threat as he is seen to be later in the season is wounded, making him appear less of a threat at the time and making Abraham the obvious choice for Lucille.
- Additionally, Carl is shown to be just as defiant as Abraham, but who would objectively appear the larger threat: the grown man with the build of a soldier glaring at you? Or the one-eyed teenager glaring at you?
