Fridge Brilliance

  • "Aloha Oe" being played in the climax may seem like overkill for such a bittersweet song about "good-byes". But it suddenly takes on a new tone of brilliance on two levels. First, the whole movie's theme is about how "For every goodbye there's always a hello". It acknowledges that although Lilo allowed her extended family to follow their dreams, it lead them back to her. Second, it counts as a Triumphant Reprise. In the grand scheme of things, Nani sadly singing the song to Lilo in the first movie has been book-ended by this very moment, showing that what they thought was the end of their broken family ultimately lead up to their family being bigger than ever before.
