Crater is a 2023 space drama written by John Griffin and directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez. It was available on Disney+ for one month before being removed, and is now on Prime Video.

Caleb (Isaiah Russel Bailey) is a teenager whose father just died while working in the helium mines, and he is about to be involuntarily shipped to Omega as part of the death benefits provided by the mining company. He and his friends enlist the help of Addison (Mckenna Grace) to steal a rover and travel to a crater that his mother loved. Teenage joy, hijinks, and drama ensue.

Crater contains examples of

  • Artificial Gravity: Gravity in the base and in the rover is Earth-normal gravity; lunar gravity is only experienced when outside. This drives some of the action several times in the movie.
  • Driven to Suicide: Later in the movie, Dylan comes to suspect that this was the cause of his father's death.
  • Five-Man Band: The five friends
    • Caleb as The Hero. His father, Michael, promised to take him to the crater before his mother died, and then made Caleb promise to visit the crater if Michael died.
    • Dylan as The Lancer. The designated rover driver; he met Caleb the night after Caleb's mother died, and helped break in to the commissary, where they stayed eating sandwiches all night.
    • Addison as The Smart Guy. She has access to the codes needed to steal the rover, knows all about Earth, and stops Marcus when he's about to damage the life-support equipment during the teens' destructive spree.
    • Borney as The Heart, especially when it comes to taking care of Marcus.
    • Marcus as The Big Guy
  • Meaningful Name: Omega, the planet that everyone wants to move to.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: The movie, and Caleb's memories, Smash Cut from the stolen lunar rover to a recovery room on Omega. Neither Caleb nor the audience see his friends again.
  • Paradise Planet Omega, which appears to the teens be the only thing motivating any of the adults.
  • Parental Abandonment: Caleb's mother died many years ago, and his father's death is the cause of the time pressure in the movie.
  • Screwed by the Network: Disney+ dropped it after only a month.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The team consists of four boys and Addison.
  • There Are No Adults: There are only two named adults, and both appear only in Flashbacks.
