Fanfic / Wail Of The Banshee

Go To

Wail of the Banshee is a fanfic by BlackHole1. It is a crossover between Warframe and Worm.

The premise is quite simple: what if Taylor triggered with the ability to create a Banshee Warframe around herself? From there, though, things rapidly go off the rails. It can be found on Spacebattles.com as well as on Fanfiction.net.

This fic provides examples of:

  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: Taylor's weapon in this story is the glaive, and its first usage sees it badly mangle Lung with one throw.
  • Aliens Among Us:
    • While they are technically human, the Corpus still count as this, having traveled from their universe to the Worm universe and set up shop under the guise of a Tinker gang.
    • The Tenno take up the guise of human civilians after they pursued the Corpus from the Warframe universe to Worm!Earth.
  • Alternate Universe: It's revealed that the Worm Universe and the Warframe one both exist within the story's multiverse and that the Corpus are aware that it exists. That being said, only Alad V has any interest in it.
  • Behemoth Battle: In the latest chapters, Leviathan gets into a battle with Outbreak (a gigantic Infested). Though the fight starts out even, it becomes clear that Leviathan will win, with Outbreak even admitting that it is nowhere near as powerful as the Endbringer.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: By necessity, as this story was just wrapping up by the time of the release of The Second Dream, a Wham Episode that completely upended Warframe's lore beyond all recognition. Because of this, the warframes are treated as suits of armor worn by the Tenno (the general assumption as to what they were pre-Second Dream), as opposed to being infested flesh puppets controlled by the real Tenno via Somatic Link.
  • Faking the Dead: Aegis fakes being killed by Banshee's first attack in a training battle in order to scare her. Apparently, he's done it to everyone who joined after him, as a form of initiation. Due to her enhanced hearing, though, Banshee knows that all she did was wind him.
  • Foreshadowing: The Corpus being terrified of Taylor despite her being new to the hero business hints that they're actually from the Warframe universe.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Armsmaster lets Taylor take credit for defeating Lung, due to the fact she almost eviscerated him doing so (as taking credit for that would horribly tarnish his reputation).
    • Circus ends up being sent to assist the Undersiders in robbing the bank.
      • During the robbery, Tattletale is caught and is convinced to change sides.
  • Horrifying Hero: Deconstructed with Banshee—She's so terrifying that she alienates her teammates and friends without actually trying. As Taylor was already emotionally isolated due to the bullying of the trio, this doesn't do her any favors.
  • In-Series Nickname: The Corpus are initially nicknamed Boxheads by the PRT.
  • No Kill like Overkill: Taylor ends up eviscerating Lung on her first night out as a cape due to underestimating how much cutting power her glaive has. Lung only survives this due to his regenerative abilities.
  • Not the Intended Use: Taylor is able to figure out how to use her sound manipulation to escape from containment foam: she emits a sound at a specific frequency that causes the foam to liquefy.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The Tenno prove to be this for the Worm universe. Their powers don't apply to Worm's rules and no one on Worm!Earth has any idea who they are or where they came from.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Apparently, Taylor's warframe creation power also gives her the knowledge on how to use whatever weapon she's wielding at the moment most effectively, much to Miss Militia's surprise.
    • It also gives her the skills needed to use one of Armsmaster's halberds without having any actual training with said weapon. She still loses to him in a duel, though, as he is simply that much better than she is.
  • Shown Their Work: When Taylor practices firing with a pistol, she holds it the correct way (one hand on the grip, the other under the magazine). See Required Secondary Powers for why this is important.
  • Slave to PR: Armsmaster, as in canon. This actually ends up working in Taylor's favor, as he lets her take credit for defeating Lung due to how savagely she beat him.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Taylor ends up being given a bow to use as a member of the Wards since her only other form of offense is the Glaive, which is too violent looking for PR.
  • Trapped in Another World: After Scion destroys Taylor’s Banshee body, it’s revealed that Taylor was actually controlling Banshee remotely and her real body was in the Warframe universe.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: The Infested make an appearance midway through the story.
