Flaming Frost is a Warrior Cats fanfic about what if the Fox Trap scene in Sunset turned out differently.
This fanfic contains examples of:
- Accident, Not Murder: Played for Laughs with Crowfeather taken Prisoner by Bramblestar, over Leafpool's death.
- Alternate Continuity: Being an AU fanfic, this shares everything that happened before the end of Sunset, the nail where this diverges.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking:Mothwing: "After faking a sign to allow me to be a Medicine Cat, blackmailing me to fake a dream to kick Stormfur out, throwing WindClan into rebellion with Mudclaw, setting up a trap so Brambleclaw can kill Firestar, and to top it all off, getting in my face after what you've done? Of COURSE No!"
- Blame Game: Played for Laughs — In chapter 1, the entirety of ThunderClan blamed, in order: Ashfur, Hawkfrost, witnesses, each other, cats in other clans that had nothing to do with the thing, Mothwing, dead cats that would be impossible to put the blame on, 2 founders, Dovewing, Tigerstar, Justin Bieber, Joseph Stalin, Kim Jong-Un, Mirabel Madrigal, Spongebob Squarepants, Bowser Jr, Yellow Face from BFDI, Kirby, Super Mario, Meowser, Doofinshmirtz, and Phineas and Ferb. Definitely Ridiculous.
- Chain of People: Played for Laughs — Chapter 2 has a Tug-Of-War between RiverClan and a school of big fish, all latching onto the fish Hawkfrost caught.
- Cool and Unusual Punishment: A nod to the COVID-19 Pandemic, where Hawkfrost's punishment is that he must stay within 6 Fox-lengths of Mistyfoot, Leopardstar, or Mothwing.
- Corporal Punishment: Implied with the Pikes ripping Brambleclaw apart as revenge for RiverClan stealing their prey.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Discussed with Tigerstar and Brambleclaw while the latter almost died.Brambleclaw: "So what? Am I dead?"Tigerstar: "I'm not sure, but you've became leader and all of a sudden, you're dying? How incompetent of you."Brambleclaw: "What!? The waters were calm, it was a whole bunch of predatory fish! They were not just drowning me, but they also bit chunks of my flesh off. It's like they're torturing me over what RiverClan does!"Tigerstar: "Perhaps that was StarClan's attempt to punish you for being incompetent?"Brambleclaw: "Then they gave me a breath of air, only to bring me back down and they started hurting me even more!"Tigerstar: "I see. StarClan has weird ways of dealing with sinners."
- Crowd Chant: Bramblestar interrupts the chanting at the first 2 of the Three being apprentices, but allows them to do it after Hollypaw is apprenticed.
- For Want Of A Nail: Hawkfrost survives, Mothwing training in the Dark Forest, and Bramblestar is scolded for triggering the nail that caused the AU, you name it. Everything past Book 6 of The New Prophecy is probably vastly different from canon if not outright ignored, all for the want of the Fox trap scene.
- Make It Look Like an Accident: Hawkfrost shoves a tree branch on top of Firestar's body and tells Brambleclaw to tell Squirrelflight that a Tree killed him. Guess where Brambleclaw tells them to look? Under the fallen branch that Hawkfrost shoved in.
- Mind Screw: The Dark Forest has some elements of the Deep Sea, (including a Chaunacops anglerfish) which should be outright impossible in such a place. Even weirder is that Four-shaped trees from Battle for BFDI are also present.
- Near-Death Experience: Brambleclaw was almost eaten alive… by giant predatory Pikes. Had Hawkfrost not intervened, he would've died and went to the Dark Forest.
- Parody Commercial: Tigerstar does this in an attempt to get Jaypaw into the Dark Forest. It fails when Spottedleaf interrupts it and brings Jaypaw back to StarClan.
- Happens again in the next chapter, this time towards Lionpaw. He accepted the scam, though.
- Shout-Out: Chapter 2 has a Kite-Eating Tree fall on the edge of ShadowClan camp. Even funnier is that it happened at the exact same time Jaypaw mentioned it.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Hawkfrost pranks Hollypaw by insisting she is a spy. Works too well when Redwillow actually believes it.
- Torment by Annoyance: Played for Laughs with Hawkfrost's punishment after the Fish-of-War, then again when Hawkfrost invoked it on Mothwing to get her attention. It didn't go as intended for the latter, though.
- Total Eclipse of the Plot: Comes as a Diabolus ex Machina as a lunar eclipse, during a gathering, of all places note . Panicking cats, Breezepaw attacking Sandstorm, then all the hell broke loose after that strike.
- Villain Protagonist: Hawkfrost gets a POV in each chapter.
- You Can't Go Home Again: Surprisingly averted for Hawkfrost after causing the Chain of People earlier in chapter 2, perhaps because of how awesome Hawkfrost is? Instead, he has to stay within 6 fox-lengths of Leopardstar, Mistyfoot, or Mothwing. He doesn't like it.
