Zakes Mokae (5 August 1934 – 11 September 2009) was a South African actor and musician. An émigré from South Africa due to its Apartheid policies, he formed a collaborative friendship with Boer playwright Athol Fugard, eventually winning a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in Fugard’s play "Master Harold"... and the Boys. He was also well-known for the films The Serpent and the Rainbow, A Dry White Season, and Vampire in Brooklyn.

Mokae was married twice to the same woman—Marilyn Mokae—the second time lasting until his death from stroke complications in 2009. They had one child.
