William Mervyn, born William Mervyn Pickwoad, (3 January 1912 — 6 August 1976), was a British actor best known for playing the Right Reverend Cuthbert Hever in All Gas and Gaiters and the old gentleman in The Railway Children.
His stage career began in 1946, but it wasn't until he began to act on TV that he began to become better known. One of his first major TV roles was in the 1962 series Saki as Sir Hector and four years later played the Bishop of St. Ogg's in All Gas and Gaiters.
Some other notable roles he played in The '60s were Sir Charles Summer in the Doctor Who serial "The War Machines" and small roles in three Carry On films.
Towards the end of his life, he was often typecast as either The Vicar or wealthy upper-class gentlemen in films such as The Railway Children, Up the Front, and The Ruling Class.
He died at the age of 64.
