Joye Hummel Murchison Kelly (April 4, 1924 – April 5, 2021) was an American Comic Book writer in the Golden Age of Comics and the first woman to have written for Wonder Woman.

Originally just being an assistant to William Moulton Marston, who was her professor, she eventually began contributing stories to Marston's Wonder Woman comics. As Marston’s health declined she gradually took on more of the writing duties for the character, though the stories were still all credited to Marston in the credits.

Following Marston's death in 1947, Hummel resigned from the book and left the comics industry entirely. Her contributions would largely go unacknowledged for much of the remainder of her life before being re-discovered in the mid-2010s.

Titles she worked on;

Tropes associated with her and her work include;

  • Ghost Writer: She's estimated to have written about 70 Wonder Woman stories but all are attributed under Marston's penname, "Charles Marston". Meaning she wrote more of Wonder Woman than her own creator did.
  • Legion of Doom: Scripted one of comics' first, and for the longest time only all-female, villain group with Villainy Inc.
