Benjamin McKenzie Schenkkan (born September 12, 1978 in Austin, Texas) is an American actor. He's perhaps best known for starring as Ryan Atwood on FOX's The O.C. and NBC / TNT's Southland. Since 2014, he's been starring as Detective Jim Gordon in the Batman prequel series Gotham.
He's also done some work in film, starring in the Oscar-nominated Junebug opposite Amy Adams, and he provided the voice of Bruce Wayne / Batman in the animated film adaptation of Frank Miller's seminal comic book series Batman: Year One, making him one of only two actors to play both Batman and Commissioner Gordon (the other being Jeffrey Wright).
He's married to his Gotham co-star Morena Baccarin, who gave birth to their daughter, Frances, on March 2, 2016. Son Arthur followed in March 2021.
Aside from acting, he is also known for being very vocal in his opposition to NFT's and crypto currency and criticism of celebrity endorsements of both and has written about the subject
