Player Character

     The Farmer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_protagonist.png

The player character of the game and grandchild of the one of the founders of Olive Town. They grew up hearing stories about their grandfather running a farm, leading to them dreaming of growing up and moving to Olive Town and take over the farm.
They're surprised to learn that the farm is in ruins and overgrown by forest. They're determined to breathe life back into their grandfather's farm and follow in his footsteps.

  • Canon Name: The male farmer is called Ollie and the female farmer is called Yuka.
  • Character Customization: Their appearance can be picked in the beginning, ranging from skintone to facial structure, eye- and hair-color, and even their general body stance. Once Jeanne opens her beauty salon, the player can change the appearance again in exchange for money.
  • Cool Bike: Averted. They use a rather basic scooter.
  • Pinball Protagonist: Some events have the farmer barely interact with the characters taking part or even simply observes what's going on, not even be acknowledged.
  • Protagonist Without a Past: Downplayed. They heard their grandfather talk about building up Olive Town and running a farm there since early childhood, installing a desire to take over the farm when growing up.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Unlockable clothing is not gender-restricted, so even a player choosing to play as a male farmer can don skirts and dresses. The player can even go and make a very feminine-looking male farmer or masculine-looking female farmer.

Love Interests

     Blaire

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_blaire.png

A cheerful part-time waitress at the Capeside Bistro.
She dreams of becoming a famous actress in the city.

  • Casting Couch: A G-rated version gets mentioned. Blaire mentions that she's going to meet a producer that can talk to the judges of her next audition, leading to Misaki being very wary about the situation and insists on going along. It's pretty clear what Misaki is concerned Blaire could be dragged into.
  • Small Town Boredom: She considers Olive Town boring compared to the city she used to live in, another reason why she wants to go back as an actress. Should she be romanced, she chooses to remain with the farmer in town.
  • Waiting for a Break: She auditions for many roles, hoping to become a movie star.

     Bridget

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_bridget.png

A kindhearted woman that works at her family's animal store.
Being the complete opposite of her brother, she does worry about his future sometimes.

  • Animal Lover: She adores animals and cares deeply for them, forming a close bond with all the animals her family takes care of. She openly refers to them as her friends.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She's cheerful and friendly, openly displaying her love for animals, and can easily get flustered about things. Her brother Damon is more aloof and moody, and keeps up an attitude of indifference towards animals, though they do share their love for animals.

     Damon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_damon.png

An aloof and reserved young man wandering the town.
As much as he plays up his tough biker outside, he's got a softer side deep down.

  • AM/FM Characterization: His first heart event involves him changing the station at the cafĂ© to something surprisingly upbeat for someone with his attitude.
  • G-Rated Drug: His caffeine addiction is used as a way to establish him as the rebellious and edgy bad boy in the overall family-friendly game.
  • Hidden Depths: He cares more for animals than he lets on, and stargazing is one of his biggest hobbies.
  • Must Have Caffeine: He needs coffee throughout the day to keep going. And coffee is one of his loved gifts.
  • Real Men Take It Black: Requests his coffee black from Sally.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: He's aloof and not much of a talker, and while he likes animals a lot, he mostly displays an indifference to keep up his image. His sister Bridget is more open about her love for animals and cheerful.

     Emilio

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_emilio.png

A laid-back fisherman that's had the ocean as his backyard since childhood.
He cares a lot for his family, especially his surrogate brother, Raul.

  • Ambiguously Related: His relation to Raul is unclear, as he's said to be a relative of Manuela, who is Emilio's mother. Regardless of what it might be, he considers Raul like his younger brother.
  • Gay Groom in a White Tux: Should the farmer be male and marry Emilio, who wears a white tuxedo to his wedding.
  • Latino Is Brown: With his skintone being darker than most love interests and gratuitous use of Spanish, it's implied that Emilio's supposed to be Latino.
  • Through His Stomach: His first heart event involves him giving up the last slice of the bistro's cheesecake to the farmer, so they can have a taste. Then he asks Misaki to put the cost on his tab, essentially buying the farmer food out of the blue.

     Iori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_iori.png

A kindly and reliable young lord that has come to Olive Town from a faraway land.
He spends his days fishing, hoping to hone his skills.

  • Developers' Desired Date: Romancing Iori is the only way to obtain his would-be assassin as a temporary villager to interact with and befriend. No other romance route affects the game in such a way.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: His fifth heart event, and the last one to see before unlocking his romance route, involves him requesting the farmer to stay away from him because of the assassin after his life. Choosing to romance Iori defies this trope, obviously.
  • Out-of-Genre Experience: His romance route involves dealing with an assassin that's after him because of politicial reasons that Iori escaped from by moving to Olive Town, which feels very uncommon for a farming simulation game.
  • Uptown Girl: Discussed and defied during his confession event. He points out that he self-exiled and renounced any birthright from his homeland, so he doesn't consider his romance with the farmer as an interclass one.

     Jack

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_jack.png

A lackadaisical guy that helps out at his family's general store. Sometimes.
He actually thinks of ways to improve Olive Town while wandering around.

  • The Generic Guy: Compared to some of the other love interests, Jack doesn't stand out with any extreme, be it appearance or personality, and is overall a simple, nice guy that's just a tad too laidback.
  • Hidden Depths: He loves Olive Town and wants it to grow and improve, just like the mayor and the farmer work on, but prefers to think of ways of doing it in his own way.
  • Umpteenth Customer: His third heart event has him greet the farmer as being the store's lucky 10,000th customer, and they get a snow globe as a prize. Cindy bursts the bubble by revealing he's done that to anyone lately, to get rid of snow globes that haven't been selling.

     Laura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_laura.png

An easy-going tour guide that has a fair bit of knowledge about Olive Town.
As much as she takes her job seriously, her family always comes first.

  • Rescue Romance: Her first heart event involves her rushing into the ocean after the farmer, who was having difficulty swimming while looking for Jacopo's lost wallet.

     Linh

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_linh.png

A sweet young woman that helps run her grandfather's flower shop.
She seems bashful at first, but she's a steadfast friend to her loved ones.

  • Anime Chinese Girl: Downplayed. She has a Chinese name, like her grandfather, and keeps her hair in one bun. Her clothes also seem loosely based on traditional Chinese clothing.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: Her hair is open and loose during her wedding.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Her love gifts involve mangos and mango dishes.

     Ralph

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_ralph.png

An earnest young man that works to protect the town's flora and fauna.
He doesn't speak much and retains a cool head in emergency situations.

  • Bears Are Bad News: His heart events involves bears a lot, including them appearing more frequently near town.
  • Forest Ranger: He works as one in the town, having a small little house of his own in the forest area. He still frequently stops by his father's place.
  • Hidden Depths: Ralph used to be an athelete.

     Reina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_reina.png

A fashionable and enthusiastic archeologist, working at the museum.
The only thing that rivals her love for her work is her love for parties.

  • Brainy Brunette: She's a party-loving girl, but also a successful archeologist.
  • Caught in the Rain: Her fifth heart event, the last one before starting her romance route, involves her and the farmer taking refuge in the ranger station in the forest because of bad weather.
  • Missing Mom: Her mom's mentioned to be deceased.
  • Unknown Item Identification: Her purpose at the museum is to identify any heavy or timeworn object the farmer finds, allowing her to identify it and make it ready for donating to the museum's collection.

Townspeople

     Angela

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_angela.png

The proprietress of the town's General Store, she's the mother of Jack and Cindy.

  • Happily Married: While she doesn't seem to have a husband anymore, talking to Angela while being newlywed to a love interest, she'll talk about how things are only going to get better, implying that she was happily married at one point.
You may think you couldn't be happier now, but believe me, this is only the beginning. It gets even better.
  • Multigenerational Household: She lives with her children and her parents in the same large house that also serves as her store.
  • Parents as People: Her events involve Angela mention how difficult it is to cook for everyone in her home due to her parents' age-related health or asking the farmer for their input on Cindy's future education.

     Beth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_beth.png

The awkward and timid antique-collector, she stays at the Gull's Rest hotel.

     Cindy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_cindy.png

Jack's younger sister and Angela's daughter, she often hangs out with Mikey but doesn't seem to like it all that much.

  • Cool Big Sis: Angela reveals that Cindy looks up to the farmer and admires them, regardless of what gender the player has picked.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Keeps her hair in two, braided pigtails.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: Cindy seems to hold down a proper routine and helping others out, like the flower shop, compared to Jack mostly wandering around all day with no clear goal in mind.

     Clemens

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_clemens.png

The friendly owner of the Worker's Base Tool shop in town.

  • Closet Geek: One of his events has him gushing over a poster of a movie starlet, who has a passing resemblance to Misaki.
  • Healing Herb: His first event involves Clemens getting a burn injury while working and asking Nguyen about plants that could help him.

     Dosetsu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_dosetsu.png

The attendant assigned to Iori since birth, he follows his master around often.

  • Battle Butler: One of his events shows that he keeps the house he and Iori reside in very safe when the farmer accidentally gets knocked over by them. Given that Iori is heavily implied to be of a high-rank, if not being royalty, in his homecountry, Dosetsu is more than just a mere 'attendant'.
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: As the attendant to a lord from a country that's clearly Japanese-inspired, Dosetsu speaks this way in the Japanese version. The English localization has him speak a tad old-fashioned, and referring to other people as Master or Lady.
  • Private Tutor: He oversees Cindy's and Mikey's lessons in the afternoon, as Olive Town has no school.

     Georg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_georg.png

  • Trademark Favorite Food: Various egg-types are among his loved and liked gifts.

     Gloria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_gloria.png

The director of Olive Town's museum and Victor's wife.

  • But Thou Must!: Her first event involves asking the farmer what style the museum should be renovated into. Regardless of what the player picks, Gloria decides the museum's current style is great and gives up on any renovation plans.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Her liked gifts involve strawberries and strawberry by-products.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: While Victor isn't necessarily ugly, he's not as conventionally attractive compared to his wife, who is taller and exudes elegance.

     Jacopo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_jacopo.png

The son of Victor and Gloria, he works part-time on Georg's ship.

  • Butt-Monkey: Many events involve him playing a role of being silly or having to do something embarrassing, like accidentally throwing his wallet into the ocean instead of a banana peel or Lars insisting Jacopo join in on making motorcycle noises with his mouth.
  • The Slacker: Cares for nothing but lying around and being lazy, much to his father's frustration. Victor got him the job on the ship as a favor, hoping the schedule would make him more serious. Jacopo instead more thinks that finding him a beautiful wife would do the job.

     Jason

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_jason.png

The owner of the Gull's Rest Hotel & Café, he runs the hotel while his wife is in charge of the café portion. He's the father of Blaire and Mikey.

  • Trademark Favorite Food: Several of her liked gifts involve cocoa, including caffè mocha being a loved gift.

     Jessie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sospoot_jessie.png

Jessie is a soft-spoken woman, being Simon's wife and the grandmother to Jack and Cindy.

  • Bizarre Taste in Food: His first event has him talk to the farmer about coming up with new food, like wanting to create a curry-flavored cheese.
  • Catchphrase: His phrase "Lovett LOVES IT!" is frequently used for his reviews.
  • Dub Name Change: His Japanese name was Daisukii, with his name changed to retain the name-pun for his catchphrase.
  • Mock Millionaire: He lives in a large mansion and wears an embroidered, fancy coat, but going inside shows that the inside is more bare and minimalistic than it appears.
  • Nonstandard Character Design: His proportions are different from other townsfolk, having a bigger head, more animesque eyes, and thin limbs.
  • Pauper Patches: The bed in his house is a mess of them, and he uses pineapple-shaped patches on the back of his coat.
