Helena Adams - The Mind's Eye

Helena Adams - The Mind's Eye

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/310px_helena_adam_6.png
Rumor: Although Helena lost her vision due to a disease, she can still perceive the outside world through hearing. In this game, she firmly grasps her cane, seeking a way to victory.

Helena is a blind woman that had lost her vision during an epidemic of a serious disease. Due to her condition, her hearing had improved exceptionally, allowing her to use her cane similar to how creatures use echolocation. Her blindness does not bring her down, though, as she often excels in her educational classes and is planning to enroll in college. However, with insufficient funds, she takes part in the 'game' at Orpheus Manor in hopes of winning the grand prize.

Inclination: The perfect "control group".

Stage Cast: Kawakami Eriko
Voiced by: Jin Na (Chinese), Lynn (Japanese)

  • Ambiguous Situation: An in-universe example; as detailed in her Experiment File, the manor's researchers initially couldn't determine whether it was the state of the drugs that were administered on her or simply her inherent characteristics that caused the "final results". Judging by her serial number being corrected from 0-0-3 to 0-1-3, the researchers seem to have settled on the former interpretation.
  • Aura Vision: Her ability enables her to reveal the Hunter's location to all Survivors including herself.
  • Daddy's Girl: It is very clear in her deductions that her father loved her very much and was nothing but proud of her.
  • Determinator: As the message attached to her portrait details, Helena "never loses her anchor between good and evil", even facing betrayal and being left with nothing to rely on.
  • Fatal Flaw: The author of her Experiment File believed it to be her "excessive" compassion, which is said to have only increased as her time in the manor progressed. If said source can be trusted, this flaw led to Helena making "incorrect judgments in extreme situations" and left her vulnerable to Galatea's "trap".
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Downplayed; both her and Galatea's letters reveal that, during her time at the manor, she viewed both Galatea and Orpheus as people she could trust, something people more familiar with the truth of their respective characters would likely view as a horrible decision.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name means "bright, shining light" in Greek. Though this may seem ironic, considering her disability, it is actually appropriate when one acknowledges her skill and determination.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Because she is legally blind, Helena has a completely different view of the map than other survivors, having limited vision but also being able to locate the hunter through walls.
Helena: Though the world is only black and white, I still hope others can see me shine bright.
  • Mythical Motifs: As hinted at by one of her clues in her character portrait, Helena's pose in said portrait is clearly meant to make her resemble the manor's statue of Calliope, the Greek muse of eloquence and poetry; areas which Helena also possesses an interest in.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Based on Helen Adams Keller, the first blind-deaf person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • Nice Girl: On top of being one of the few Survivors to not be morally ambiguous.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Not her blindness, which is definitely genuine. However, her deductions imply that, at the suggestion of her tutor, she pretended to also be deaf, in an attempt to, as Sullivan seems to put it, become a "miracle that will never again be replicated". These apparent rumors only confused her father, who had always seen his daughter display excellent hearing abilities.
  • Older Than They Look: At least according to one of her clues in her character portrait, which details how her round glasses make her look younger than she actually is.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted; two of her costumes share titles with later released characters (Emil [Patient] and Keigan [Clerk] respectively).
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Her "Clerk" costume from Season 13 Essence 2 represents the sin of Envy, contrasting Vera's "Scorpion" costume from Season 22 Essence 3, which represents the virtue of Kindness.
  • Sole Survivor: May have been the one to ultimately win the game she participated in.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She is stated to be a compassionate person and according to her deductions, her father showered her with toys whenever she was upset.
  • Sweet Tooth: Her bio states that she likes sweet things. Two out of three of her favourite dishes (petit four and cookies) are forms of sweets.
  • Uncertain Doom: The fact that bloodstains are said to be attached at the edges of the contents of her fourth letter, coupled with the words "Muse no. 3" being written below it, potentially hint that she may have been killed, or at very least physically harmed, by Galatea.
  • Unnamed Parent: Her father goes unnamed in both her deductions and her letters.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: As detailed in one of her clues for her character portrait, her "calm features exude determination beyond her age".
  • You Are Number 6: She is referred to by her given serial number, 0-0-3 (noted to have been later corrected to 0-1-3) in her Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as her.

    Fiona Gilman - The Priestess

Fiona Gilman - The Priestess

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/priestess_transparent.png
Rumor: Fiona is a mystic, who claims that a spirit guided her to Oletus Manor. But nobody takes her seriously.

Inclination: Prophesying according to her insight into the "will of the divine".

Stage Cast: Peach (Episodes 1-3); Sakura Karen (Episode 4 - )
Voiced by: Wu Xiangtong (Chinese), Yōko Hikasa (Japanese)

  • Ambiguously Evil: A priestess with an interest in the occult, who was studying a village home to what was basically a religious cult, whose residents mysteriously vanished, and who claims to have been guided to the manor by a spirit. That being said, nothing present in her deductions implies that she's a bad person.
    • Her 2021 Character Day letter implies that she may be far more aware of what is actually of what is truly going on at Oletus Manor than the other survivors. That said, it is still unclear just what it is she is up to.
  • "Back to Camera" Pose: She is positioned this way in her character portrait, with her head turning to the camera while the rest of her body is turned to the pattern of the Holy Key in the background.
  • Bold Explorer: An implied trope; an anonymous writer (potentially her absent father) sent her a letter imploring her to "explore the horizons of the world", and suggesting that she may find the answers to her questions in the land of gold. The mention of a cruise ticket to Calcutta in her deductions implies that Fiona eventually went on to explore the world.
  • Bullet-Proof Fashion Plate: As detailed by one of the clues attached to her character portrait, her robe stays clean regardless of where she travels.
  • Critical Hesitation Blunder: What led to her ultimate downfall, as detailed in her Experiment File. According to the author of said Experiment File, "a moment's hesitation caused her to miss a crucial piece of "divine insight"", which in turn led to her to lose her chance to escape.
  • Determinator: Is positioned this way by the message attached to her character portrait, which details that she is not turning back "until the doorway leads her to the ultimate truth".
  • Disappeared Dad: As detailed in her deductions, Fiona's father divorced Fiona's mother, and left Fiona and her mother, early in Fiona's childhood. Fiona's mother would go on to try and prevent Fiona from becoming anything like her father.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: Implied to have seen a vision of the apocalypse in her deductions.
  • Expy: Shares the surname "Gilman" with the protagonist of The Dreams in the Witch House who shares her desire to combine the ideas of science with the supernatural and comes into contact with a supernatural creature connected to Human Sacrifice (something Fiona may also have gone through, following The Reveal that she was interested in the traditions of Lakeside Village). In the story, the protagonist learns a formula that allows him to make wormholes which Fiona's portals are similar to.
    • Alternatively, she could also be an expy of the protagonist of The Shadow Over Innsmouth as both of them are interested in studying villages with possible ties with the supernatural located near bodies of water. It should also be noted that during his visit to Innsmouth, the protagonist stayed at the Gilman hotel.
  • Fiery Redhead: Subverted. While she does have red hair, she is one of the calmer Survivors.
  • Hair Color Dissonance: In her deductions, it is stated that she has red hair. In her official artwork, it appears as more of a hot pink color.
  • Hearing Voices: Implied; the message attached to her character portrait makes mention of "whispers in her ear" which affirm her choices.
  • In the Hood: In most of her skins.
  • Lady And A Scholar: She is interested in studying geography and the occult and holds manners in high regard.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: As detailed in her fourth letter, she remembered going into the Holy Key, but had no recollection of what of what the other side of it was like after she left it.
  • Magical Accessory: Her Holy Key is this to her, both from a gameplay and lore-perspective. Gameplay-wise, it is capable of creating portals enabling Fiona to travel through walls and floors; lore-wise, Fiona's fourth letter reveals that she is capable of, at the very least, transferring her consciousness inside of it, though she can never remember what she sees inside it.
  • Magic Versus Science: When Fiona was young, her parents separated as a result of differences in their belief systems and each of them believed they should teach their daughter. Fiona's father was interested in occultism and superstitions, while her mother viewed religion in a negative light and chose to view the world through facts and theories. Fiona decided to Take a Third Option and come to her own conclusions about the world worked.
  • Ms. Fanservice: A lot of her skins (including her default one) are fairly revealing.
  • No Body Left Behind: Like the other participants of Game 6A, Fiona's is said to have completed vanished from the processing room, with her body having seemingly dissolved into a puddle of water.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Her character potentially draws inspiration from Helena Blavatsky, a controversial mystic and author responsible for co-founding the Theosophical Society.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: One made by the author of her Experiment File, implied to be the lord of Oletus Manor, in regards to how "truth and "faith" can be "seen, shaped, and discarded, but never touched" and how it applies to both of them.
  • Occult Detective: The fact that all of Arthur Russel's letters that are focused on Lakeside Village are addressed to her seems to imply that Fiona desires to learn more about the apparent supernatural phenomena surrounding the village.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Her "Court 5 Commissioner" from Season 13 Essence 2 represents the sin of Sloth, contrasting Grace's "Mayfly" costume from Season 22 Essence 3, which represents the virtue of Diligence.
  • Seven Heavenly Virtues: Her "Frozen Butterfly" from Season 22 Essence 3 represents the virtue of Chastity, contrasting Margaretha's "Court 7 Commissioner" costume from Season 13 Essence 2, which represents the sin of Lust.
  • Significant Birth Date: In a rare case where it's a reference to a fictional character, she shares the same birthday (February 2nd) as Wilbur Whateley, Yog-Sothoth's son from The Dunwich Horror.
  • Spirited Young Lady: Studying the occult isn't what one would typically view as traditionally feminine and as shown in one of her Deduction Star lines, Fiona can be quite vocal about the people she dislikes. That being said, she is still very polite and well-mannered.
  • Sweet Tooth: An implied trope, given that one of her favourite dishes are cookies.
  • Tarot Motifs: Fiona's chosen tarot for the official "Arcana Series" merchandise is The High Priestess.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Which the devs have humorously compared to manhole covers.
  • Uncertain Doom: In regards to the circumstances of her being "sacrificed" by Arthur Byers. Luchino's Experiment File implies that the manor visitant with the serial number 6-1-2 was the only test subject to have died during the Group 6A's experiment, prior to the disappearance of everyone but Luchino. For that matter, there's also the matter of what happened to her after her body (apparently) dissolved into a puddle of water.
  • Unnamed Parent: Both her mother and her Disappeared Dad go unnamed in her deductions.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: Implied in several of her deduction targets.
Young Fiona: Will I, with my dim-witted mind, be able to rise to my mother's expectations?
  • You Are Number 6: She is referred to by her given serial number, 6-1-3 in her Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as her.

    Vera Nair - The Perfumer

Vera Nair - The Perfumer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/perfumer_transparent.png
Rumor: This unique fragrance, "Euphoria" was inspired by a mysterious formula from the black market, but the perfume has not yet been perfected, so she came to the manor in search of the formula's source.

Inclination: One who treads on thin ice as she tries to escape reality.

Voiced by: Huang Ying (Chinese), Mamiko Noto (Japanese), Nicola Posener (English)

  • Angsty Surviving Twin: With the added twist of being responsible for said twin's death.
  • Becoming the Mask: By the time she discovered her sister’s true intentions, she had already become accustomed to her life as Vera Nair.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: To a certain degree. She is said to possess talent that perfumers can only dream of but was looked down on by nearly everyone, including her father, for her strange behavior, which prevented her from going into business. Her twin sister on the other hand...
  • Dead Person Impersonation: She isn't actually Vera Nair, but rather her twin sister Chloe Nair. Chloe killed the real Vera and assumed her identity.
  • Evil Twin: She's really the murderous Chloe Nair.
  • Hallucinations: Said to be caused by her viewing Edgar's paintings during her first day in the manor.
  • Immune to Drugs: Potentially; her Experiment File reveals that it was theorised that the test's medicine might not effect her, thus requiring the use of other factors to affect her emotions and produce results.
  • Ironic Name: Her name means "truth". That being said, it begins to make more sense when one remembers that it is not her true name.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Her goal, wanting to forget the guilt of murdering her sister and be able to believe that she was the real Vera Nair.
  • Modeling Poses: Her second design is positioned in this form of pose, with one hand on her hip, and the other holding her perfume.
  • Must Have Caffeine: One of her favourite dishes is coffee.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • She mistakenly believed that her sister was taking advantage of her by stealing and taking credit for her perfume designs. She later discovered that her sister had been trying to help her. Unfortunately, she only discovered this after she had murdered her sister and stolen her identity. Her reasons for coming to the Manor are so she can find a way to erase her bad memories and bury the grief and sorrow that now plagues her mind.
    • Her Experiment File reveals that, during her time at the manor, she both lost and later recovered her memories, which lead to her suffering something close to a mental breakdown.
  • My Sibling Will Live Through Me: Assumed her sister's identity after killing her. Her ultimate goal suggests she intends to become her sister in any way that she can.
  • The Nose Knows: Her Experiment File reveals her to have an "extremely sensitive sense of smell".
  • Posthumous Sibling: Her twin sister, the real Vera Nair, whose identity she assumed after killing her.
  • Pretend to Be Brainwashed: During their time in the manor, Jose put Vera under hypnosis in an attempt gain allies. Smelling her perfume allowed Vera to break from her hypnosis. Upon doing so, Vera pretended to still be under Jose's control, causing him to let his guard down around both her and Edgar (both Jose had also attempted to hypnotise).
  • Seven Heavenly Virtues: Her "Scorpion" costume from Season 22 Essence 3 represents the virtue of Kindness, contrasting Helena's "Clerk" costume from Season 13 Essence 2, which represents the sin of Envy.
  • Worf Had the Flu: As acknowledged by the author of her Experiment File, in inviting Vera to attend one of the manor's games, there existed a risk that Vera could analyse the manor's drugs. However, the researchers were confident that Vera's current state of emotional stability decreased the chances of her doing so.
  • You Are Number 6: She is referred to by her given serial number, 5-0-2 in her Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as her.

    Kevin Ayuso - The Cowboy

Kevin Ayuso - The Cowboy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cowboy_transparent.png
Rumor: An adventurous cowboy from the Americas. He lived together with the mysterious native Americans where he perfected the art of using a lasso.

Inclination: A coward boasting freedom while being trapped by guilt.

Stage Cast: Tanaka Kouhei
Voiced by: Li Yuantao (Chinese, formerly)

  • Accomplice by Inaction: Being unwilling to avenge his friend's death by exacting vengeance on his parents, or protect the tribe that took him in from the other settlers, is heavily implied to be the reason why he does not believe he can be considered a good man.
  • Ambiguously Brown: He has slightly darker skins than most of the other Survivors, and refers to an alcoholic Mexican drink in his in-character response for the 2018 Qixi Festival.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: His fourth letter contains subtle hints that the "poison" he drank was in fact one of the manor's memory-erasing drugs. In his recollection of his final night in the manor - seemingly two weeks after drinking the alleged "poison" - he takes time to note that he has the feeling that he'd lost something he once held tight, but couldn't quite put his finger on just what it was.
  • Animal Motif: A variant; rather than being compared to an animal himself, he enforces the motifs of animals on other men based on their words and actions.
  • Does Not Like Men: Gameplay-wise, he decodes slower with male teammates, and will not block damage for them. Lore-wise, his Experiment File theorises this to be result of psychologically projected self-hatred.
  • Dulcinea Effect: Is noted to be heavily protective of women, regardless of their race, status, or stance. This is heavily implied to be the result of his failure to protect his childhood friend.
  • Facial Markings: Has on face paint, most likely in memory of the tribe that took him in.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Implied by one of his quotes for the 2020 Deduction Star event.
    Freedom beats all.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: His surname; sometimes it's spelt as "Ayuso" and sometimes it's spelt as "Alonso".
  • Instant Knots: Can tie his lasso perfectly around a teammate from pretty far away.
  • It Was a Gift: His 2021 birthday questions reveal that his lass was given to him by his childhood friend, Angelina.
  • Knows the Ropes: Wields a lasso in gameplay.
  • My Greatest Failure: His failure to protect his childhood friend and the tribe that took him in, whose deaths his parents and/or fellow cowboys are implied to be responsible for.
  • Older Than They Look: Confirmed to be 30 by the Oletus Manor Investigation Report.
  • Pauper Patches: His jacket, as outlined by a clue attached to his character portrait, is old and tattered, which in turn hints at recent poverty.
  • Psychological Projection: As outlined by the author of his Experiment File Kevin has a habit of projecting his guilt for Angelina's death onto other women and his self-hatred onto other men.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Both his lasso and his Cactus Doll accessory.
  • Tribal Face Paint: One element of his appearance that emphasises his past history living among a Native American tribe.
  • Uncertain Doom: His 2020 Character Day letter reveals that, during his time at the manor, he may have chosen to drink poison, in order to protect Patricia . His fourth letter would go on to reveal that he actually survived the incident, but was seemingly left incapacitated for about two weeks to such an extent that he was unable to join the "game" segment of the experiment, and claimed to experience headaches that he had been unable to shake off prior to his conversation with the manor's owner on his (alleged) final night in the manor. It is unclear if he was truly allowed to leave or if he was brought back, or even locked up the in the processing room, and forced to participate in another game.
  • Unnamed Parent: Neither of his parents are named in his deductions or letters.
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 5-?-4 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as him.

Margaretha Zelle - The Female Dancer

Margaretha Zelle - The Female Dancer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/margaretha.png
Rumor: Since the divorce from her estranged husband, Margaretha, without a stable source of income, has gained a new understanding of "freedom". A chance to become a millionaire? She wouldn't miss it for the world.

Inclination: A self-important woman teetering on the edge of fantasy

Voiced by: Li Dongting (Chinese)

  • Ambiguously Evil: Might have been responsible for the Moon River Tragedy. Mike certainly seems to believe her to be the culprit.
    • She is also one of the three candidates for the test subject responsible for hurting Violetta during her time in the manor. Her Experiment File confirms she wasn't the one responsible.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Regarding if she is behind the the Moon River Tragedy.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Is she Natalie the animal trainer? Did she play a key role in the Moon River Tragedy?
      • Mike's Character Day letter reveals that she is indeed Natalie.
    • Her uncle is implied to have an unclear connection to the Geisha and her murderous father-in-law. What this potentially means for Margaretha is still unclear.
    • Mike's 2020 Character Day letter reveals that Mike was aware of the name she went by after she left the circus. Given the uncertainty of when the letter was written, what does this imply? Was Margaretha Zelle already an alias she utilized before she fled the circus, or did Mike manage to track her down and/or discover her new name after the massacre?
  • Chekhov's Gunman: She was first introduced in-game in Joker's deductions, under her old alias, Natalie. She would later go on to become a playable character in the game, whose character background would further develop the backstory of Hullabaloo Circus, as well as Lakeside Village.
  • Detrimental Determination: Her pursuit of a better life, if one agrees with the author of her Experiment File is very much Margaretha's key weakness as it is her guiding purpose.
  • Distracted by the Luxury: Is said to have an affinity for jewelry and the good life. Sergei managed to draw in Margaretha, and encourage her to run away with him, with plastic promises of a better life in the 'Big City'. Even after separating from her husband, and becoming financially independent, Margaretha still desired to live the good life.
  • Domestic Abuse: At the hands of her husband, Sergei, to the point that her back is said to have been covered in scars.
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: As expressed in one of her Deduction Star Event lines and her "Affection" accessory.
Margaretha: Everyone longs for dazzling jewelry.
  • Expy: Of abused trapeze artist Natalia from the The Last Circus.
  • Fatal Flaw: The author of her Experiment File believes her pursuit of a better life to be the source of her suffering.
  • I Have Many Names: Natasha, Natalie, Margaretha... As outlined by the author of her Experiment File, none of these identities could give her true freedom.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Her old name, "Natasha", was misspelt as "Fiona" in her initial English-translated deductions.
  • It Was a Gift: Her music box, which her deductions reveal was given to her by her late husband, Sergei. During their time in the manor, Joker either gifted her a new one or gave the one that Sergei had given her back to her.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Not in Canon, but in many of her skins and official materials, if she's not killing someone, she'll probably be portrayed as this trope. A special mention goes to her Tier-B skin from the Ivory Tower series "Swan", who is a friendly student with above-average beauty.
  • Meaningful Name: The name Margaretha is a variant of Margaret which means "pearl". She is shown to like fancy things and her birthday is in June, which has the pearl as one of its birthstones.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Her fourth letter is essentially this in written form, with it being revealed that she believed she had inadvertently caused to Joker targeting and hurting Violetta.
  • Named After Someone Famous: Loosely based on Mata Hari, a Dutch exotic dancer accused of espionage.
  • Nephewism: What little information we have on Margaretha's childhood implies that she was raised by her aunt and uncle for the majority of her life. No word is given on the status of Margaretha's parents.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Along with Mike, she serves as the in-between to Joker's mean and Murro and Violetta's nice during the preparation stages of Game 8.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Notes on her design sheets reveal her appearance to be based on American actress, Lina Basquette.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: In her fourth letter, written during her time in the manor sometime after Joker hurt Violetta, she acknowledges that Joker has become a "terrifying lunatic", just like Sergei.
  • Riches to Rags: Though riches may be a bit of an over-exaggeration, she recently lost her husband and with him, her financial security. She came to the manor hoping to go from Rags to Riches.
  • The Runaway: The Circus Runaway. Unsatisfied with living in a fishing village, and dreaming of a better life, Margaretha went along with her lover's plan to elope and drugged her aunt and uncle during dinner so that she could run away with the circus.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Her "Court 7 Commissioner" costume from Season 13 Essence 2 represents the sin of Lust, contrasting Fiona's "Frozen Butterfly" costume from Season 22 Essence 2, which represents the virtue of Chastity.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: If one takes the voice-over accompanying the Weeping Clown's background story trailer, as well as the implications raised from it, as fact, she began to fall for Joker during her time at the circus and had, at the very least, an emotional affair with him. Considering what an absolute bastard Sergei turned out to be, her potential infidelity is incredibly easy to excuse.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The burnt "Straw Doll" accessory, may serve as a reminder of her previous life in Lakeside Village.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: As revealed by her fourth letter, Margaretha believed that her handing Joker a letter, and telling him about an unspecified perfume, lead to him attacking Violetta.
  • You Are Number 6: She is referred to by her given serial number, 8-1-4 in her Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors and hunters that participated in the same game as her.

    Eli Clark - The Seer

Eli Clark - The Seer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eli_6.png
Rumor: Eli Clark is a Seer possessing the Great Eye, and this mysterious ability is obviously related to his trusted owl who accompanies him.

Inclination: A so-called "seer" who knows nothing.

Stage Cast: Chiba Mizuki
Voiced by: Meng Xianglong (Chinese), Kenichi Suzumura (Japanese)

  • Animal Companion: His owl. It is implied in his Character Day letter that her name is Brooke Rose/Blodeuwedd, named after a Welsh mythological figure who betrayed her oath and tried to kill her husband.
  • Animal Eye Spy: Is capable of seeing through the eyes of his owl as it soars through the map.
  • Blindfolded Vision: Wears a blindfold in all of his skins, but his lack of sight is unaffected. As a clue attached to his character portrait outlines, though his eyes are covered by a cloth decorated with the pattern of Ouroboros, they still retain the ability to "see".
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The author of his Experiment File letter seems to think of him this way. It's hard to say if their assessment is accurate, though.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Wears navy blue in his default skin and is one of the kinder and less morally grey Survivors.
  • Cool Mask: When he isn't wearing a blindfold, he has some cool masks to cover his eyes.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Has a dark color scheme, but is arguably the nicest guy of the Survivors.
  • "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: Eli sings the theme songs for the Survivors' side of each stage play episode.
  • Dramatic Irony: The author of Eli's Experiment File admits that, when first seeing the subjects of the experiment, they never could have foreseen that the "seer" would be their own demise, or that the "honest" would defeat the "cheater".
  • Facial Markings: A large scar under his eyes in the shape of an M.
  • Familiar: His owl, Brooke Rose, allows him to see through her eyes.
  • Fatal Flaw: The author of Experiment File identifies his key weakness being his refusal to accept the foreseen outcome of the prophecy he was given.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Especially birds. One of the clues attached to his character portrait draw attention to his gentle smile seen on his face while interacting with animals.
  • Glory Seeker: According to the test indicators in his 2021 Character Day letter, he desires "fame and fortune." It's hard to tell if this truly is an accurate assessment of his character, though.
  • Inconsistent Spelling:
    • His name was originally mistranslated as "Anna Gilman" in his Chinese-translated deductions.
    • The name of his Animal Companion, Blodeuwedd, was initially mistranslated as Brooke Rose.
  • In the Hood: Wears clothes with hoods or cloaks in most of his skins.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: It's implied that his fear of losing Gertrude led to him telling her about a vision he had seen, breaking the oath he had made in the process.
  • Nice Guy: Background material portrays him as one of (if not the) most altruistic and kind-hearted survivors.
    • In the stage play, he remains kind and understanding towards Aesop Carl [Embalmer] even though the latter keeps intentionally getting himself killed during matches.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Unfortunately, every time he sends out his owl to protect either himself or his teammates, his vaulting speed decreases. Lorewise, he lost his sight after telling his fiancée about a vision he had in order to save her father's business.
  • Noble Bird of Prey: In his "Experienced Huntsman" skin, he has a falcon instead of his owl.
  • The Oath-Breaker: Lost his sight and was scarred when he shared what he had seen in one of his visions with his fiancee.
  • Occult Blue Eyes: The magical eyes that grant him visions of the future shine in a very mystical blue.
  • Ominous Owl: Averted as his owl isn't portrayed as creepy and is used to protect his teammates.
  • Oracular Urchin: Is said to have been able to see visions since a young age.
  • Ouroboros: The symbol for which is present on both his blindfold and his owl's forehead.
  • The Owl-Knowing One: As his design notes outline, the owl's role as symbol of wisdom in Greek mythology played a role in it being chosen to match Eli's profession as a prophet.
  • Pet Baby Wild Animal: He and his owl met when Eli found it injured. After raising it back to health he attempted to release it back into the wild, but the owl instead chose to stay with Eli.
  • Riddle for the Ages: One raised by the author of his Experiment File; was Eli truly unable to alter the future through his own choices, or was it the behaviour of the other participants in his game that decided the final outcome?
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: As outlined by the author of his Experiment File, it was ultimately his own series of choice that caused the initially predicted outcome from the prophecy he was given.
  • Seers: Well, it’s in his title.
  • Significant Birth Date: His birthday is on Halloween (October 31st) and he used to have supernatural abilities. In addition, said holiday descended from the Celtic Festival of Samhain where it was believed that spiritual power is at its highest.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: In his Character Day letter, he shows sympathy towards Brooke Rose (one of the antagonists of the story he's telling), who was transformed into an owl as punishment for betraying her husband, and uses her tale as a reason why one should not break an oath.
  • Tarot Motifs: His chosen tarot card for the official "Arcana Series" merchandise is The Magician.
  • Uncertain Doom: Certain wording present in his 2021 Character Day letter implies that he may not have survived his game. His 2022 letter makes his survival even less likely.
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 6-1-1 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as him.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: His actions in the manor ultimately led to him falling victim to a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy. As the author of his Experiment File lays out, "the ability to predict the future does not guarantee the ability to alter it".
  • Younger Than They Look: It may come as a surprise to many to find out that he is, potentially, the third to fourth youngest Survivor.

    Aesop Carl - The Embalmer

Aesop Carl - The Embalmer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aesop_carl.png
Rumor: Life's journey always ends in a similar way, and, in most people's dreams Aesop Carl is the person who helps them with their final journey. He strictly adheres to procedure and gives the greatest respect for those travellers who have come to their final stop.

Inclination: A dangerous character who appears stable on the surface.

Stage Cast: Hirai Yuki
Voiced by: Minoru Kuroishi (Chinese), Kōki Uchiyama (Japanese)

  • Ambiguously Evil: His mentor is heavily implied to have been a serial killer, who was grooming him to follow in his footsteps. It is unclear if he succeeded.
    • His 2021 Character Day letter confirms he did.
  • Creepy Mortician: An embalmer who's stated to dislike the living and favor the deceased, was raised to see murder as a morally agreeable act, and outright fantasizes about killing and embalming a fellow survivor in his 2021 Character Day letter.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Both his hair and eyes are gray.
  • Disappeared Dad: His father is given no mention in his deductions, with Aesop's first letter implying that he wasn't involved in his life period.
  • Driven to Suicide: His fourth letter heavily implies that after "eliminating" the remaining Survivors that participated in Game 3, Aesop chose to self-immolate himself through the use of a fire that had previously broken out and claimed Victor's life.
  • Flower Motifs: His favourite flowers are yellow roses, which are noted to surround his mother's graves. Yellow roses symbolise friendship, which serve as potential symbolism for Aesop's subconscious desires.]]
  • Hero Killer: Implied His Experiment File reveals that he was responsible for "eliminating" Anne Lester/The Toy Merchant and No. 3-1-4 (which the Relationship Between Them system, as well as clues in both Aesop and Victor's second letters, imply to have been Ganji).
  • Hidden Depths: Surprisingly, Aesop is supposed to be a physically strong person, with many of his skins portraying him as having an lean muscular stature. If that doesn't seem like enough proof, he was described as having a strong body by William of all people in one of his official responses.
Forward/William (About Embalmer): No, from the beginning.
He’s the sort of person who is powerful.
    (⊗`◟´⊗)< Didn’t you know?
  • Missing Mom: His mother is deceased. His first letter implies that she may have allowed Jerry Carl, the man who would go on to raise her son, to kill her.
  • No Social Skills: Decodes slower when accompanied by other Survivors, and prefers spending time with the dead rather than the living.
  • The Protagonist: Of the stage play's first episode.
  • Terms of Endangerment: In his 2021 Character Day letter he refers to Victor Grantz/The Postman as his "silent friend", while plotting to kill him.
  • Unnamed Parent: His mother is only referred to by her initials Y.R. His Disappeared Dad, meanwhile, is given no name at all.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: As outlined in his first letter, his mother remembers him as a "kind and gentle child".
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: His deductions suggest that Jerry taught him to help people meet their destined end and "guide lost people from darkness" by killing them. In his second Character Day letter, Aesop says that he has kept those teachings in mind as he explains that he intends to kill Victor Grantz/The Postman (and perhaps the rest of their fellow players), talking about how he believes he understands Victor and mentioning that such is his duty as an embalmer.
  • A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: Is referred to as such by the inclination in his Experiment File, which classified's him as a "dangerous character who appears stable on the surface".
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 3-?-1 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as him.

Norton Campbell - The Prospector

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20240511_121131.png
Rumor: After surviving a terrible mining accident, Norton Campbell became even more reserved and gloomy. With the meteorite magnet obtained from the accident, he changed his profession and became a geological surveyor to avoid entering the darkness of the mine.

Stage Cast: Suga Kyosuke
Voiced by: Minoru Kuroishi (Chinese), Wataru Hatano (Japanese)

    Patricia Dorval - The Enchantress

Patricia Dorval - The Enchantress

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/patricia_dorval_full.png
Rumor: Patricia Dorval, who has a curse hidden in her blood, has brought endless pain and great power to herself. She believes that to wear a crown is to bear its weight.

Inclination: Pagan huntress.

Stage Cast: Otowa Micako
Voiced by: Zhou Shuai (Chinese), Yuu Kobayashi (Japanese)

  • Curse: The source of her strange abilities.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Her S-tier skin “Maroon Crystal” is this for Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz. Being manipulated by Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the toothless lion and Princess Ozma to be left for dead, she sets out with the help of the Wicked Witch Entomologist (AKA the real Dorothy) in search of the blood of Oz royalty.
  • Cursed with Awesome: She is literally a woman who suffers from a curse that causes a lot of pain in her body, but also allows her to curse hunters and make them jolt in pain.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She has a dark color palette and has skins that are goth and friendly, talks to the dead and intentionally tries to appear intimidating and obnoxious, but is seemingly a relatively kind person who appears to want to help her peers to become better people.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She is said to be quite friendly towards those who pass her character tests.
  • Electric Black Guy: Patricia is a black woman, and her S-Tier accessory, Cursed Cloud, allows her to curse hunters using lightning and electricity instead of the regular curse.
  • Girls Love Chocolate: Patricia loves Brownies and other coconut-based products, just remember not to steal her brownies.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Patricia is a force for good, who is well-intentioned but tends to act rude and judgmental towards those around her, especially those who were rude to her first.
  • Happily Adopted: Was raised by a local woman of New Orleans, who was said to have selflessly loved her adopted daughter. Even when the spirit of her birth mother seemingly rejected her, Patricia chose not to feel too bad about it, mainly because she already had a loving foster mother.
  • Heroic Bastard: The product of an American man impregnating a Haitan woman who, even after finding out the truths about her origins, didn't choose to take her suffering out on the world, on the contrary, choosing to help people cursed by their pasts.
  • Hollywood Voodoo: Zig-Zagging Trope. Lore wise, the way her practice of voodooism is relatively realistic, although it is described by outsiders as being "pagan magic", even though there is plenty of evidence that she is Catholic, but it's played straight with the gameplay where she basically puts on a light show while hurting the hunter.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Sour, bad-tempered and antisocial, but only because of her trauma with rejection. The real Patricia is very kind and wants to help people heal, even if she herself has difficulty healing.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The dark feminine to the light feminine of Vera, her teammate. Patricia wears dark clothes, acts a little disturbingly, while Vera is an elegant fashionista, who normally wears light clothes. Patricia is Dark Is Not Evil while Vera is a reluctant Light Is Not Good.
  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: She is lonely, has trust issues, and can act judgmental, but she means well and knows when to be kind.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Based on Marie Laveau, a renowned Louisianan voodoo practitioner.
  • Older Than They Look: Has spent the last ten years of her life is plagued by a curse and is confirmed to be 35 by the Oletus Manor Investigation Report. Despite this, she could arguably pass for a woman in her mid-to-late twenties.
  • Pajama-Clad Hero: His skin from the "Man in Dream" series, based on the Peter Pan tale, wears adorable pajamas and can stun hunters with the same ease.
  • Religious Bruiser: Patricia is implied to be Catholic (Popular Catholicism) and is a Mambo (a female priest) and is a badass survivor with the ability to hurt the hunter.
  • Scary Black Woman: She was made to project this image, appearing intimidating, judgmental and being a Perpetual Frowner on the gameplay, but it's closer to a well-intentioned Creepy Good than anything.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves Brownies, and does happy dances after eating one in the pre-game lobby. Her skin “Tabloid” takes it to another level, being willing to electrocute William after he steals one of her brownies.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: In her fourth letter she curses José, Edgar and Vera who had been hostile towards her, while also blessing Kevin so that he can return from his apparent death.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Curses people in an attempt to help them heal from their past traumas, when it doesn't work they may die, as Edgar can tell, but if it works Patricia starts to extend her kindness to that person.
  • When She Smiles: Patricia is Perpetual Frowner, but she has a beautiful smile and is quite cute when off the “battlefield”.
  • You Are Number 6: She is referred to by her given serial number, 5-?-5 (later 5-0-5) in her Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as her.

    Murro - The Wildling

Murro Morton - The Wildling

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/murro.png
Rumor: After experiencing betrayals and struggles Murro decided to give up trying to fit into the so-called civilized society. Perhaps the Oletus Manor would be his ultimate destination?

Inclination: A "hero" seeking self-worth in tragedy.

Stage Cast: Claus

  • Ambiguously Evil: Was willing to do anything to escape from his uncle’s circus. Said circus just so happened to be Hullaballoo Circus, the site of an allegedly horrific massacre...
    • If you believe that his 2021 Character Day letter is addressed to Mike, however, Murro likely escaped from the circus a few days prior to the Moon River Tragedy, making it unlikely that he was responsible for the massacre.
    • Future information, likewise, would reveal him to instead be one of the more innocent and, at times, outright heroic of the Survivors.
  • Animal Companion: His boar.
  • Circus Brat: He has been in a circus from a young age, kept isolated from the rest of the world by the circus' ringmaster Bernard until he convincingly resembled a feral child.
  • Feral Child: Murro’s uncle claimed that he grew up in the woods. Murro was actually raised in complete isolation for the first ten years of his, with his only toy dog and his uncle for company.
  • Full-Boar Action: Rides some kind of boar.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Downplayed. He can still decode ciphers, but his decoding speed has been decreased by 40%.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: His boar, who he worked with in his act, and who accompanied him to the manor.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Along with Violetta, he serves as the nice to Margaretha and Mike's in-between and Joker's mean during the preparation stages of Game 8.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Frequently compares himself to Kaspar Hauser, a man who claimed he had spent the early years of his life being raised in an environment, completely cut off from human contact (this may have been a lie made by a swindler, however). It’s not hard to see where the comparison originates.
  • Only One Name: Up till his third Character Day only his first name was known. His Experiment File reveals his surname to be that of his uncle and adopted cousin: Morton.
  • Significant Birth Date: His birthday (April 30) is on the same date that his real-life inspiration, Kaspar Hauser, was born.
  • Sole Survivor: His Experiment File reveals that he was the only one to survive the circus game. Unfortunately, his luck ended up running out during the preparations for the winter game.
  • Uncertain Doom: Was (seemingly) supposed to be part of a game with Forward, Mercenary and Explorer, but mysteriously disappeared and was replaced by the Magician.
    • In the Magician's Diary, Servais uncovers evidence that Murro didn't actually escape out the window like Naib claimed he had, but had apparently been kidnapped or murdered by another Survivor. There is also the question of just what was inside of the boar Naib was keeping outside the manor...
    • Kurt's second letter, if one believes it to be an exaggeration of events that actually occurred, implies that he may have been killed by Bane.
    • His Experiment File reveals that he was "eliminated" before the game officially began.
    • Naib's Experiment File finally sets the record straight by revealing that Murro was killed by the Mercenary shortly before Servais stepped foot in the manor.
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 8-?-5 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors and hunters that participated in Steps 8 and 9 of the experiment.

    Mike Morton - The Acrobat

Mike Morton - The Acrobat

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mike_05.png
Rumor: Mike Morton is the most popular guy in the travelling circus “Hullaballoo”. After surviving the disaster, Mike Morton's only goal is to find the real killer who destroyed his home.

Inclination: Lost "family" and inability to return to "Hullabaloo."

Stage Cast: Seto Keita
Voiced by: Zhai Wei (Chinese)

  • Alliterative Name: Mike Morton
  • Ambiguously Evil: One of three candidates for the test subject responsible for hurting Violetta during her time in the manor. His Experiment File would eventually reveal that he wasn't the responsible party.
  • Ambiguously Gay: In his first deduction, Mike states that Bernard is his ideal father figure. However, his fifth deduction, "Darling" has a description that reads, "How people call each other often reflects the degree to which the relationship has developed". In the same deduction, he also talks about wanting to "put [his] cold hands down [Bernard's] collar".
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Murro's 2020 Character Day letter revealed that Mike was in contact with Arthur Russel (a man who had previously appeared to have been studying the phenomena of Lakeside Village), through which he had seemingly hired either a hitman or detective to do... something to an unspecified target, seemingly in return for the brain of another unspecified person. The circus was shortly afterward burned to the ground, killing the intended target and seemingly destroying any trace of the aforementioned brain, leading to Mike calling off their arrangement. It is unclear how this incident connects to Murro.
    • His 2020 Character Day letter. Does it take place before or after the Moon River Tragedy? And just how did he come to know of the Female Dancer's alias?
  • Best Served Cold: Is said to be hunting down the person responsible for the Moon River Tragedy. Given that Mike appears to believe Margaretha to have been responsible (or at least played a role in the tragedy), his 2020 Character Day letter (in which he requests Arthur Russel uncover information about Margaretha's past before joining the circus) potentially raises the possibility that he won't be satisfied with merely killing her...
  • Circus Brat: His deductions imply that he joined the circus as a kid.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Evil may be a bit too harsh, but he nevertheless cared deeply about the other members of the circus, and has made it his goal to find the person responsible for the Moon River Tragedy and make them pay for their crime.
  • Nice, Mean, and In-Between: Along with Margaretha, he serves as the in-between to Joker's mean and Murro and Violetta's nice during the preparation stages of Game 8.
  • The Nicknamer: In the stage play — Fiona is "Fi-chan" and Eli is "EliCla" — which he remembers into the mirror world even though everyone has lost their memories.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Downplayed, but he does come off as a bit of a goofball in gameplay and his deductions. Both his and Murro's 2020 Character Day letters, however, reveal that he is actually quite eloquent and professional when dealing with personal matters.
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 8-?-2 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors and hunters that participated in the same game as him.

Jose Baden - The First Officer

Jose Baden - The First Officer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor23_jose_baden.png
Rumor: In order to find the whereabouts of his loved ones and restore his family’s reputation, the sea knight, Jose Baden, decided to enter the cursed Oletus Manor. This time, will his magical pocket watch assure smooth sailing?

Inclination: The "saviour" of self-salvation.

Voiced by: Liu Yijia (Chinese)

  • Accomplice by Inaction: It's implied that his self-loathing largely stems from his inability to turn against his father and do the right thing.
  • The Alcoholic: Hit the bottle pretty hard following some (as of yet) unexplained event to the point that he ended up at risk of losing his position and title due to continuously missing the tide.
  • Clear My Name: Following his father's mysterious disappearance while he was delivering cargo overseas, the Queen, believing that the Baden family had stolen her treasure, proceeded to strip Jose of his title and deprive him of all the wealth that he and his family owned. Jose traveled to Oletus Manor, the intended location of one of the items that were to be delivered by his father, in order to locate his father and restore his family's reputation.
  • Connected All Along: His 2021 Character Day letter reveals that his father previously did business with one of the Bourbon siblings.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Where his addiction stems from since he had quite a hard time following some events.
  • Guilt-Ridden Accomplice: Presumably, given that he is shown to feel a far greater amount of remorse for his family's misdeeds than his father, to the point that he ended up trying to drown his sorrows in drugs and alchohol.
  • Hypno Pendulum: How he does his hypnotic trick with the pocket watch.
  • Magical Accessory: Carries a pocket watch that allegedly gives its owner the ability to control the tides.
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 5-0-3 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors and hunters that participated in the same game as him.

    Demi Bourbon - The Barmaid

Demi Bourbon - The Barmaid

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/survivor22_783fa4b.png
Rumor: A sunny girl who can make a miracle-like Dovlin, who has come to the Manor in search for her missing brother.

Inclination: The false "correct answer".

Voiced by: Anqi Zhang (Chinese)

  • The Alcoholic: Partially justified, since her alcohol can heal her or give her other buffs.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Both her and Jose's second letters raise the possibility that she may have been working for the manor owner. Her Experiment File casts doubt on this possibility, whilst also casting further suspicion on her brother, Sam.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Her second letter is a message left on the back of an old ferry ticket. Said ferry ticket was for a trip from Southampton to New York, which was historically the same route that the Titanic took in its fatal journey in 1912, something made even more complicated by Wu Chang's fourth letter including reference to a man named Chang Chip, who shares a name with a real-life Titanic survivor. It is, as of now, unclear if this is merely a coincidence or a hint to the time period in which Demi's game took place.
    • Lily Barriere's deductions, likewise, make it unclear just what role Demi plays in her first two letters. Is Demi the "D" who both letters are addressed to? Is she the author of both letters? Or is she, perhaps, the "traitor" responsible for stealing one of the samples produced from unidentified objects brought back from the Mediterranean Sea, potentially used to produce the drugs used on the Survivors in Oletus Manor?
  • Booze-Based Buff: Dovlin increases the Movement Speed of whoever drinks it by 50% as well as heals them and gives them the Tipsy status which reduces their fear. However, there is a tradeoff as the drinker's max decoding speed will be decreased by 8%.
  • Connected All Along: Originally thought to possess no real connection to any of the other Survivors or the Hunters, Jose's 2021 Character Day letter reveals that either she or, more likely, her brother previously did business with Jose's family. Furthermore, the fact that the handwriting in the invitation containing the codeword that Jose received resembled that of whoever had signed off the ledgers of goods that were given to Jose's father implies that one of the Bourbon siblings was involved in the First Officer's game.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Was said to be weak and ill for the majority of her childhood, to the point that many were certain she would die young. Miraculously, she had apparently returned to full health by the time she was an adult.
  • Fanservice with a Smile: Downplayed, but she is definitely one of the more attractive survivors, and her default outfit doesn’t do anything to distract from this.
  • Healing Potion: The drinks she mixes can heal Survivors during matches.
  • Heal It with Booze: Can heal herself and other survivors with alcohol.
  • I Will Find You: Came to Oletus Manor in search of her brother.
  • Immune to Drugs: Is said to have a high drug resistance, a trait that she apparently inherited from her mother.
  • Meaningful Name: Her last name, Bourbon is a type of alcoholic drink.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Luchino's 2021 Character Day letter implies that, during her time at the Manor, she was the Energetic Girl to the former's Savvy Guy.
  • Significant Birth Date: Her birthday is on Valentine's Day (February 14th) which also happens to be regarded as the feast day of Saint Tryphon (patron saint of winegrowers and protector of vineyards) by many Orthodox Christians.
  • Only Sane Woman: Forced. Due to her supernatural resistance to drugs, Demi is the only member of her team to be unaffected by the manor's hallucinogenic drugs. Therefore being the only one capable of seeing above the manor's illusions regarding truth and lies, and making her closest to winning the game. Unfortunately, she still fails.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: A curious example, as canonically Demi doesn't seem to be either, but her skins usually portray her as Tomboy, for other girls Girly Girl. She is the only girl who never wears regular skirts in any of her skins, which in the era she lived in was a sign of gender nonconformity.
  • Younger Than They Look" Given her "hobby" one would likely assume that she is one of the older survivors. Thus, it may come as a surprise to find out that she is only 22 years old, and thus only two years above the legal drinking age.
  • You Are Number 6: She is referred to by her given serial number, 6-?-3 in her Experiment File. Curiously, her Experiment File notes that the second digit of her serial number (which appears to be related to how the Survivors behaviour and/or mental state is impacted by the implementation of the manor's drugs into their system) was altered repeatedly before the completion of the report.

    Victor Grantz - The Postman

Victor Grantz - The Postman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victorgrantz_4.png
Rumor: Contrary to the general impressions of postmen, Victor isn’t particularly verbal and prefers to stay away from people. After receiving his first letter with great excitement, he embarked on a journey to the manor with his reliable partner, Wick the Post Dog.

Inclination: Subject 3-?-3's secrecy is a projection of the negative emotions in his subconscious.

Stage Cast: Suzuki Yota
Voiced by: Liu Yao (Chinese), Ayumu Murase (Japanese), Aleks Le (English)

  • Ambiguous Situation: His character deductions imply that his services as postman were originally used by a criminal organisation to smuggle unspecified items and that he may have witnessed the building he rescued Wick from being set on fire. It's unclear just how involved Victor was in criminal activity or what role he played in the building, where a police officer seemingly investigating him resided, being burnt to the ground. Did he witness his associates burn the building to the ground, and then rushed in an attempt to save people? Or did he burn down the building himself, only to have a crisis of conscience? His final deductions imply it was the former.
    • Furthermore, was he still affiliated with the criminal organisation when he received his letter from Oletus Manor or did gaining acceptance from the public for his actions during the fire allow him to become a proper postman?
    • There is also the question of how he got involved with the criminal organisation in the first place.
  • Animal Companion: Wick the Post Dog
  • Better with Non-Human Company: He is said to be great at caring for animals, but finds it difficult to talk to other people.
  • Curtains Match the Window: He has blonde hair and yellow eyes.
  • Cute Mute: Apparently mute and definitely looks endearing.
  • Friend to All Living Things: His character notes, and the 2020 Christmas event, reveal that, on top of taking care of Wick, Victor also likes to spend his time feeding stray animals.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Even if he was the person who burned down a police officer's house, the fact that he ran back to save Wick shows that he has a heart and a conscience.
    • His Character Traits from his 2019 release also describe him as warm-hearted and his Japanese Twitter replies are shown to be rather friendly.
  • He Knows Too Much: The mob forced Victor to keep quiet about their activities by threatening to harm Wick. It's implied that they originally wanted to go after Victor himself but decided against it as it would raise too many questions, especially after the policeman's death.
  • Heroic Fire Rescue: Rescues Wick from a burning building after someone from the mob sets it on fire.
  • Killed Off for Real: His experiment file reveals that he perished in a fire that broke out sometime during Game 3.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: His dog, Wick, who he rescued from a fire.
  • Mailman vs. Dog: Averted. Wick is nothing but friendly towards Victor and would often accept letters from him in his previous owner's place.
  • Perpetual Smiler: All of his character models show him smiling.
  • Precious Puppy: Wick the Post Dog. The game even states that the reason why Wick pounces on the Hunter is that he wants to make new friends.
  • Significant Birth Date: His birthday is on Christmas (December 25th). He delivers packages and letters like how Santa delivers presents.
  • Talking with Signs: In the stage play, he uses a notebook to communicate with others.
  • Tarot Motifs: His chosen tarot card for the official "Arcana Series" merchandise is The Fool.
  • Tragic Keepsake: The "Final Present" accessory, is said to be the reminder of his final meeting with his poet friend.
  • You Are Number 6: He is referred to by his given serial number, 3-?-3 in his Experiment File and corresponding Experiment Files on survivors that participated in the same game as him.

2020

Andrew Kreiss - The Grave Keeper

Andrew Kreiss - The Grave Keeper

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andrew_kress.png
Rumor: For Andrew, gossip is more terrifying than illness. The invitation sent from the Manor gives Andrew the hope to be understood after years of being the Grave Keeper.

Inclination: Silent Servant

Stage Cast: Isono Dai (Episodes 1-3); Masaki Kohei (Episode 4- )
Voiced by: Ma Yang (Chinese), Nobunaga Shimazaki (Japanese), Leigh Joel Scott (English)

  • Accidental Murder: The local landlord may have been victim to a premature burial at Andrew's hands. Andrew's deductions imply that, if this was the case, Andrew was unaware that the man was still alive. That being said, it is also unclear whether or not the landlord did indeed end up dying (though Andrew's first letter implies that he did).
  • Albinos Are Freaks: Was born an albino and was ostracised by nearly everyone around him as a result.
  • Cleanup Crew: His second letter heavily implies that, at one point after fleeing from the Lutz Cemetery and making his way to an "old house", the manor owner assigned him with the task of disposing of the corpses of Survivors present within Oletus Manor.
  • Connected All Along: His first letter reveals that the corpses he dug up from the Lutz Cemetery were sold to Percy's assistant, Mikhail, and used for Percy's experiments.
  • Crusty Caretaker: A gravekeeper who keeps to himself and is implied to have No Social Skills.
  • The Eeyore: He is one of the more pessimistic Survivors.
  • Grave Robbing: His implied side profession.
    • His deduction implies that his actual side profession was bodysnatching (digging up corpses and selling them for dissection or anatomy lectures in medical schools).
  • Hypocrite: Is implied to have dug up the graves of "evil" people who had bought their way into being buried in the Lutz Cemetery and sold their bodies, on the basis that such people did not deserve to be buried in such a holy place. It is also implied that he himself wished to be buried in the Lutz Cemetery, an act which (given his status as a pariah) could only be achieved if he paid a large amount of money to be buried there. The money he would have earned from digging up graves and selling dead bodies.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: His in-character Twitter responses present him this way, with him lashing out and mistaking compliments as backhanded.
  • You Are Number 6: His Experiment File confirms him to be the Survivor with the serial number, 3-0-1, the member of "staff" placed in advance on-site within one of the failed Game 3 groups, a designation which he is referred to by in corresponding Experiment Files on Survivors and Hunters that participated in the same game as him.

    Luca Balsa - The "Prisoner"

Luca Balsa - The "Prisoner"

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luka_balsa.png
Rumor: Luca Balsa was once a world-renowned inventor. He never gave up on his deepest aspiration even when he was in jail. Now that he's free, nothing is stopping him for completing his greatest invention.

Inclination: A stubborn "idealist".

Stage Cast: Anazawa Yusuke
Voiced by: Zhai Wei (Chinese), Yuichiro Umehara (Japanese)

  • Ambiguously Evil: He and his mentor came to blows, which resulted in his mentor being killed and Luca suffering from irreparable brain damage, causing his memory and focus to deteriorate. It is (as of now) unclear if Luca's mentor's death was an accident, or if Luca outright murdered him.
    • Made even more complicated by the fact that while Luca's character trailer implies Alva attacked Luca, Alva's character trailer implies that it was Luca who attacked Alva (or, at the very least, struck first, potentially causing Alva to retaliate).
  • Anonymous Benefactor: Was sentenced to hang, but was mysteriously pardoned at the last minute. It is implied that someone connected to the Oletus Manor paid his bail and invited him to participate in a game.
  • The Apprentice: Was taken under the wing of Alva Lorenz, a famous inventor, and became his assistant. Many people believed that Luca was being trained to inherit Lorenz's mantle. However, things spiraled out of control when Luca and Lorenz ended up in an academic dispute (Luca claimed that Lorenz was a plagiarist, while Lorenz accused Luca of selling the results of his research to his competitors) and turned on each other, apparently culminating in the two physically coming to blows, which resulted in Lorenz dying and Luca being sent sentenced to prison for his murder, with his reputation completely destroyed.
  • Mysterious Past: It is mentioned in his background story that, when he emerged as a public figure, no one knew where he came from, nor were they able to trace any hints of a family. The only things that people could clearly see were a sign of high education and a confident and ambitious personality. His deductions reveal that he was the son of aristocrats, who ran away from home after his father's poor choice of investments ended up costing the family their wealth.
  • No Historical Figures Were Harmed: Based on Nikola Tesla, a Serbian-American inventor best known for his contributions to the modern alternating current electricity supply system.
  • Perpetual Smiler: His character model always sports a smile.

Edgar Valden - The Painter

Rumor: Edgar has long been aware of the gossips and hypocrisy. The only thing in this world that is worthy of his pursuit is the true essence of art and creative inspiration.

Inclination: The twisted "devote".

Stage cast: Miyagi Kodai
Voiced by: Ma Yang (Chinese, In-Game), Jin Na (Chinese, Character Trailer)

  • Artsy Beret: His hat is a beret, fitting for an artist.
  • Eccentric Artist: Described as such, and boy does it show in his Twitter replies.
  • Insufferable Genius: A talented artist who looks down on everyone and believes he is the only one who truly understands art.
  • Mad Artist: The last few notes of his deductions may be interpreted to imply that he used someone's blood as paint, just like in his original concept—albeit it's most likely Sarai's blood and not his own.

  • Tarot Motifs: His chosen tarot card for the official "Arcana Series" merchandise is The Star.

    Ganji Gupta - The Batter

Ganji Gupta - The Batter

Rumor: No one, no matter how affable they are, can tolerate repeated deception. Even after all this time, Ganji struggles to find a sense of belonging.

Voiced by: An Zhi (Chinese)

  • Alliterative Name: Ganji Gupta.
  • Animal Motifs: Sheeps.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Not him but his A-tier skin “Paratrooper”. Here he is self-consciously a strong and skilled athlete, who is quite happy to mock Anne when she tries to defeat him in training. Binary Star Wujiu doesn't seem pleased with this as he tricks Anne into comically attacking him with the tentacles while they are both distracted.
  • Broken Bird: Ganji used to be much sweeter, but the horrors of colonialism acted as a catalyst of cynicism for him, making his exterior much pricklier than it previously was.
  • Broken Tears: His "Shame" emote has him kneeling and crying desperately.
  • Byronic Hero: Well-intentioned, altruistic and kind, unfortunately he prefers to push people away from him.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Like William he can use cipher machines, but is terrible with them.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Many materials portray him acting friendly but competitively with William Ellis/The Forward, with both playing different types of sports together.
Ganji’s Deduction Star Quote: "You think you're better than me? Cricket or rugby?”
  • Knight in Sour Armor: He may seem a bit cranky but he's not a bad person by far. Ganji is selfless and kind, but his traumatic experiences have led him to be distrustful of the world around him.
  • Loners Are Freaks: The general opinion about him in-universe is that his solitary nature makes him seem dangerous and many suspect that he has secrets.
  • Lovable Jock: Ganji is a professional cricket player, quite kind, although a little grumpy, who likes to pick flowers and whose character kit is focused on being altruistic and empathetic.
  • Nice Guy: Ganji, is a genuinely kind and empathetic man, despite having been hurt by the bad experiences of his past. Even his abilities revolve around being altruist and wanting to protect his allies.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He collects toys, especially stuffed animals, has collecting flowers as a hobbie and even wears full makeup in one of his skins (which happens to be pink).
  • Seven Heavenly Virtues: His "Worker Bee" costume from Season 22 Essence 3 represents the virtue of Patience, contrasting Galatea's "Court 3 Commissioner" costume from Season 13 Essence 2, which represents the sin of Wrath.
  • Shrinking Violet: Implied. In his official Twitter responses he tries to act like a grumpy lone wolf, but only comes off as shy and nervous interacting with other people.
    Ganji: Hey, wait, garden girl!
If you bring me here, I have nothing to say to anyone…!
No, don't go! Don't leave me!
    ……………………Um…let me see.
    (⊗`ʖ´⊗)<……………He-hello.
  • Sucks at Dancing: You wouldn't be blamed if you assumed his dance emote was an attempt to start a fight.
  • Weaponized Ball: He uses his cricket bat to hit a ball towards a Hunter in order to push them away.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Assuming he was the culprit who burned down the Guard's manor, the only person he spared was the son of the manor.
