Awesome / Michael Cole

Go To

  • As noted on the main page under Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass, Cole had a pretty incredible career as a journalist before his days with the WWE and covered some really significant events, both in the US and abroad.
  • While opinion on his commentary is still very much divided, even his most heated detractors agree that his call on Mick Foley's championship win was very awesome and only enhanced the moment.
Michael Cole: "Mankind has achieved his dream and the dream of everyone else who's been told: you can't do it!"
  • His call of Rhyno spearing Chris Jericho through the original SmackDown set; short, sweet, and to the point.
Michael Cole: "GORE!! GORE!! Gore through the screen!"
  • 9/10/12, after Jerry Lawler suffered a heart attack, Cole managed to both aid his friend and continue to call the action in the ring. He remained at the commentary booth all night, although he didn't call any matches after the announcement was made, keeping his composure and reporting to the audience on updates concerning Lawler's status.
  • After Lawler's heart attack and during his weeks-long recovery, Cole demonstrated a remarkable skill in flipping his on-air persona. While he'd been playing a Heel for years, with Lawler out of action he switched to being a Face behind the mic on the very next show...and did it so subtly that it would take a while for someone watching the show to realize he'd done a Heel–Face Turn.
  • His call of Daniel Bryan tapping out Batista at WrestleMania XXX was pretty good.
"HE DID IT, HE DID IT! DANIEL BRYAN DID IT! THE MIRACLE KID! THE MIRACLE KID! A MIRACLE ON BOURBON STREET! THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM HAS BECOME REALITY!"
  • A WWE.com article in late 2015 highlighted him getting into amazing shape for a non-wrestler.
  • However you may feel about Cole on commentary, his line when Shane McMahon jumped from 20 feet in the air on top of a Hell in a Cell match onto the announcers' table (missing The Undertaker as he crawled away) at WrestleMania 32 sounded like genuine fear and awe, and was a nice throwback to the same plunge Mick Foley took years earlier at King of the Ring 1998.
"Don't do this! Shane! NOOOOO!!! OH, MY GOD!!! FOR THE LOVE OF MANKIND!!! Shane just exploded through our table!
  • His call of the Hardy Boyz returning to WWE at WrestleMania 33 was brilliant, and very clever.
"THINGS ARE ABOUT TO BE BROKEN!!! TEAM XTREME IS BACK!!"
  • Arguably putting the capstone on the nearly universal perception of Cole's meteoric improvement as a commentator since Vince McMahon's retirement is the main event of WrestleMania 39 Night One, which - in addition to being WWE's third of four five-star matches in the space of a year, easily a record on the main roster - saw Cole absolutely gloriously channel his inner Mauro Ranallo.
  • His soon to be immortal call of Cody Rhodes' victory over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, done in perfect time with the referee's three count.
    "FINISHED! THE! STORY!"
