* BrokenBase: The reception to the shorts has been mixed amongst fans back when the show first aired, and they still maintain that reputation to this day. Some fans feel that they are hilarious and worthy successors to the original theatrical shorts that successfully maintain their spirit while modernizing it, while others think they are a pale imitation of them, with the main arguments being that they try too hard to replicate [[TheyCopiedItSoItSucks the style and pacing]] of ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' and lose the whimsical charm of the original shorts, and/or that they play things too safe compared to the classic shorts.

* FandomRivalry: There is a rivalry between fans of these shorts and fans of ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013'', since they are both modern takes on the WesternAnimation/ClassicDisneyShorts, but with vastly different approaches to their humor and style. Some adore the out-there wackiness of the Paul Rudish shorts and argue the ''Mickey Mouse Works'' shorts played things too safe by comparison, while others prefer the more traditional style and humor of the ''Mickey Mouse Works'' shorts and decry the DenserAndWackier and more grotesque humor of the Paul Rudish shorts.

* OlderThanTheyThink: Many people are unaware that the ''Mickey Mouse Works'' shorts aired as their own show before being used as segments on ''House of Mouse''. Somewhat justified due to many ''Mouse Works'' shorts making their debut on ''House of Mouse'' without airing on ''Mickey Mouse Works'' previously.

* TheScrappy: Shelby Turtle, the annoying little hellion and KarmaHoudini that has gotten away with tormenting Donald ''and'' Mickey, is this in both the ''House of Mouse'' segments and the ''Mouse Works'' toons. His mother is also definitely one as well for never realizing how much trouble her son causes Donald.

For YMMV tropes for ''WesternAnimation/HouseOfMouse'', go [[YMMV/HouseOfMouse here]].

%%* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
%%** The aforementioned [=CGI=] scene from "computer.don".
%%** What about in "Locksmiths" when Goofy names all the types of keys on his keychain?
%%--->'''Mickey:''' [[LampshadeHanging That accomplished absolutely NOTHING.]]

* FoeYayShipping: Happens when Mickey accidentally sends Mortimer a sweet fax that was meant for Minnie in "Mickey's Mix-Up".
* HarsherInHindsight: Arguably counts for the Phantom Blot in the episode he became "The Phantom Rainbow", as he makes his first appearance in [[VideoGame/EpicMickey a video game]]. The game involves running colors but it's more... [[DarkerAndEdgier grim]], in comparison.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** One Von Drake short has the professor invent a [[Film/HotTubTimeMachine bathtub teleporter]].
** "Organ Donors" features a villain [[VideoGame/EpicMickey trying to take Mickey's heart]].
** "How to Be Groovy, Cool and Fly" parodies Franchise/StarWars in the 1970s segment. Disney bought Lucasfilm, and by extension, the ''Star Wars'' franchise 11 years later.
** It's impossible not to think of ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' these days when seeing Mickey, Donald and Goofy fretting over keys in "Locksmiths". Bonus points for Goofy finding a key to his heart and a keyhole on his keychain.
** The Goofy cartoon ''How to Be a Rock Star'' features Goofy doing a rap song featuring squirrels. [[WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb This wouldn't be the last Disney cartoon]] [[https://youtu.be/prVTMrb6JHo to do this.]]
* MagnificentBastard: "Mickey Foils the Phantom Blot": [[DarkIsEvil The Phantom Blot]] is a [[EvilIsHammy hammy supervillain]] who seeks to steal a credit card from Ludwig that'll get him access to every source of money in the world. Managing to steal it as Ludwig is conversing with the main trio, he traps them in an ink bowl when they pursue him, using the trap to escape on his blimp with the card. When Ludwig reveals that only he knows the PIN code to it, he quickly kidnaps him and uses him to gain access to the card, using it to rob everything he can while evading the police. Upon the trio managing to destroy the card later, he decides to flee and ejects them out of his blimp using a trap door, getting rid of Donald and Goofy while dealing with Mickey, keeping the mouse on his toes throughout the fight and only being beaten by his blimp suddenly crashing into a mountain.
