The only part that's true is the fact you can't change it in the middle of combat


** The ability to alter your companion's combat behavior/inventory is only available ''out of combat'', this borderline makes it useless when travelling as the extremely random nature of encounters means you can't adequately prepare for them as if you give them ammo for guns? watch them waste it on weak enemies that you can easily melee such as Mantis/Geckos but if you don't give them ammo and then you'll watch them charge down enemies with 10mm submachine guns and get blown to pieces.
