* FictionalUnitedNations: A counterpart to the UN exists in the form of... the United Nations, sharing the iconography, name and rough organization of the OTL UN, but with very few members in Europe, it has a somewhat different Security Council makeup (The US, UK, and China remain the same, Canada is the fourth and last member, and the USSR and either France's are members due to their situations) and having emerged in a somewhat different war, it's more akin to NATO.[[note]]In our world, the United Nations began as the formal name for the Allies from 1942 onward, and was repurposed for the new world organization after the war was over. This could still have happened in TWR, but only in the Pacific War, so the scope of the declarations would have had to be smaller.[[/note]].

** After the Soviets lost the German-Soviet War, and Beria had a disastrous run as the General Secretary, the territories of the former Soviet Union are divided between the rump Soviet Union, two autonomous Soviet Military Districts in Kazan and Kazakhstan, an American-backed Russian Republic in the Far East, an autonomous Russian Republican Military District in Buryatia, two Soviet opposition governments in Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk, a democratic socialist government formed from the power vacuum in Norilsk, an independent Turkestan in Central Asia[[note]]Which encompasses Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and southern parts of Kazakhstan (in Almaty and South of the Syr Darya river)[[/note]], and German [=RKs=] in Ukraine, the Baltic States, Caucasus, and Moscow.

Compare and contrast with ''VideoGame/TheNewOrderLastDaysofEurope'', another Nazi victory mod for [=HOI4=], which is more narratively-driven, and features more ambitious and outlandish scenarios and mechanics.

*** Taken up to [[UpToEleven up to eleven]] by Fritz Sauckel, who, along with keeping Bormann's economic tree, also begins to flat out sell high ranking government positions to the highest bidder, among other offenses.

** Alongside Konev, Stalin's son Vasily leads a faction of "Ultravanguardists", who take Stalinism's "Socialism in One Country" UpToEleven and aims to establish an ultra-totalitarian isolationist Soviet Union with total economic autarky.

Compare and contrast with ''VideoGame/TheNewOrderLastDaysOfEurope'', another Nazi victory mod for [=HOI4=], which is more narratively-driven, and features more ambitious and outlandish scenarios and mechanics.

** The Werhmacht can very rarely successfully coup the German government without causing a civil war. Their primary opposition in this is the SS rather than the actual politicians.

* {{Realpolitik}}: Hermann Goering an opportunist with a weaker belief in the Nazi ideology, will seek a détente with the west while keeping the status quo of the German internal politics if he becomes the new Führer.

** The aformentioned Islamic State of Turkestan has collapsed at the start of the game, collapsing into the Independent State of Turkmenistan, Commissariat of Uzbekistan, Unitary Turkestani State, and the Tajikistani National State.

** {{Downplayed}} Juho Kusti Paasikivi, who manages to improve relations with Germany nearly to the point of joining their faction, while at the same time lifting the ban on Communist parties in Finland, all while not being particularly hard right or hard left at the same time.

** People's Germany, while perfectly capable of going down more sensible leftist routes, can alternatively become just as bad as the USSR under Willi Stoph or Gregor Strasser. It is rather telling that the only way to go down the socialist routes is to choose 'guidance' instead of 'democracy.'

* GeneralRipper: Zhukov and Konev are both set on taking down Germany and nothing else, even if they aren't elected premier. [=MacArthur=], though far less extreme, also applies, shutting down any attempts to create peace with Germany. Not that you can really blame him.

* HalfBreedDiscrimination: The child of a 100% pure Aryan German and a Jew is lucky to even survive long in TWR.

* InternalReformist:
** Of the five potential Führers, Hermann Göring is the closest thing to a reformer. He strips the SS of their influence, implements proper welfare systems, reforms the bureaucracy and economy, seeks detente with the west, allows the Wehrmacht greater freedoms and less political interference, and even scales down the Holocaust. Still, all of this is done out of a personal desire to maintain power rather than enrich the nation. There is, however, an actual [[https://www.reddit.com/r/twrmod/comments/gsbc3g/heer_tree_rework/ reformist faction in the Heer]], made up of moderates like Hans Speidel and even secretly anti-Nazi German resistance members like Hans Oster. Speidel will deescalate the Reich into a fascist Italy-inspired oligarchy with repealed Nuremberg Laws, whereas Oster will restore the Weimar Constitution, release political prisoners, begin the transition towards democracy, and declassify many documents that detail the horrors committed by the Hitler regime.

* LandOfOneCity: Four different “City” states become independent after being left to fend for themselves as Germany loses control of its territory in uprisings after Hitler's death. This is in addition to the actual city-states of the OTL, most of which barring Liechtenstein remain unscathed.

* OminousMundanity: "Unit 17." You'd never guess that it was an organization dedicated to performing experiments that would make the brains behind MK Ultra weep by the name alone.

* PayEvilUntoEvil: The creation of Ost-Germany is essentially one massive exercise of this trope on a national scale.

** Ivan Konev has gone off the deep end since the Soviet Union's earlier defeat, and has adopted the ideology of Ultra-Visionary Marxism, which makes Stalinism look like an anarchist ideology, and doesn't particularly care about Communism so much as they do defeat the Nazis. On the other side of the coin is Georgy Zhukov, whose ideology Zhukovism, much like Ultra-visionary Marxism, infuses Marxism-Leninism with a significant dose of nationalism and militarism, but is somewhat saved by the fact that he himself is a fairly benevolent ruler, unlike Konev.

* DeadlyEuphemism: 'Plane rides' are quite frequent in the Soviet Union. 'Liquidation' and 'evacuation,' as always, are also terms favored by Nazis.

** General Ivan Konev leads a faction of "Ultravisionaries" in the Soviet Union, who are totalitarian to the max. If Konev comes to power in the Soviet Union, he will immediately [[ThePurge launch a massive purge]], arresting Bulganin's rightists, Kruglov's moderates, and empower the NKVD. He will begin mass surveillance and escalate them after he's fully taken power, launch show trials, and pull a Pinochet/North Korea combination by throwing his enemies off of planes and shooting them with tank cannons. He concludes his NKVD Tree by giving Zhukov [[DeadlyEuphemism a plane ride]]. Konev's reclamation strategy involves bombing Siberia with either ''[[NukeEm tactical nukes]] or [[DeadlyGas poison gas]]''. He even has a focus tree for unethical "deep research," and it was said by the developers that many of his awful ideas can result in the collapse of the Soviet Union.
** Admiral Nikolai Kuznetsov (who has apparently become more unhinged due to bad experiences during the German-Soviet war) can come to power by couping the rightist Bulganin, and he will proceed to run the country to the ground. He will conduct mass arrests on a ''huge'' scale, and stuff the [[TheGulag gulags]] so full that he literally has entire focus branches where he creates gulag labor towns, gulag army divisions, and ''gulag penal fleets''. This will eventually trigger a revolt against him.

* HalfBreedDiscrimination: The child of a 100% pure Aryan German and a Jew is lucky to even survive long in TWR, but even if they do manage to survive the oppression of the Nazis due to their Jewish half, they could ''still'' be killed with the very same logic by the Soviets for their German half if they establish their own version of the 1/16 law.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Ivan Konev is just as brutal, totalitarian, and warmongering as the worst of Nazi Germany.

* KickedUpstairs:
** Zhukov removes the NKVD from the Soviet politics by giving them a whole country to rule - the Siberian Isles Soviet, located on the [[ReassignedToAntarctica nearly unpopulated Arctic islands]] of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novaya_Zemlya Novaya Zemlya]], which Zhukov proceeds to use as a nuclear test site.
** Germany can also do this with the SS, creating SS-Ordensstaat Burgund and leaving the region to it's fate under SS control. The logic of 'Himmler wants a nation, let's give him one' is very useful to preventing the civil war.

* ReassignedToAntarctica: In an odd parallel, both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany can do this to their overly meddling state security, the NKVD and SS respectively, by shipping them all off to the Siberian Isles Soviet and SS-Burgund, never to be seen in the homeland again.

* TheRevolutionWillNotBeCivilized: Many war crimes will be committed in the name of defeating the Germans. Special mention goes to Andrey Diky, who leads a faction of Russian Nazis against the German Nazis in the RK Moskowien collapse.

* UnexpectedSuccessor:
** Anyone on the council would be a legitimate contender for the title of Führer, if they didn't have to compete with absolute titans of the inner circle like Goebbels, Speer, and Himmler. Despite the influence of the big five, however, much more relatively unknown figures can still seize absolute power as the next Führer. Even more so is Bormann's B-team, all of which are even less likely to end up in charge, and only manage it because everyone else who's actually competent is already dead. Taken up to eleven by Herman Esser, who can only come into power if everyone else who's actually competent is dead ''and'' the Wehrmacht steps down from their control.
** After Zhukov conquers Germany, he and his entire line of succession die during their visit to Germania when the Volkshalle collapses while they're inside of it. He is replaced by one of four men that the game ''charitably'' describes as 'the bottom of the barrel.'

* TheHorseshoeEffect: In full effect in the TWR universe. Revolutionary Communism-the Umbrella term that all the furthest left ideologies in the game adhere to-and National Socialism-the same but for the furthest right-are practically equally political repressive, and in some cases, genocidal. So much so that an alliance between Otto Strasser's Germany and Zaystev's USSR, despite being exact opposites on the political spectrum, is literally the only result in the entire game that can lead to Russia and Germany forming a faction together. Downplayed in that there is plenty of difference between ''most'' Revolutionary Communist and National Socialist states; Strasser's and Zaystev's USSR is a special case as Strasserism [[CommieNazis has tried to be a considerably more left-wing take on Nazism]] since before even the NSDAP took over Germany, while Zaystev's Traditionalist Socialism is[[note]]as of the publicly released version in March 2021; the Russian area is undergoing a rework and Traditionalist Socialism has undergone as-yet undescribed changes[[/note]] partly based ''on'' Strasser's writings, recontexualized into a more Russian Bolshevik perspective.
