**** From another perspective, they both ''have'' experienced something of a better world. Superman's dream is a composite of his idealized version of Krypton and ''Smallville''. He's a farmer, growing what appears to be fields of Kryptonian wheat his wife is a CompositeCharacter of Lana Lang and Lois Lane. It's not just about what he could have had as Kal-El but also in many ways, as Clark Kent. Unfortunately, while Bruce ''has'' experienced familial love, both from his adoptive father figure in Alfred and through raising Robin and being the head of the Batfamily, and has a framework for understanding what his own childhood might be like without that one moment, it rates ''lower'' in his heart, than simply watching his father punch the mugger over and over. He derives more joy from watching Joe Chill suffer, than experiencing what his childhood could have been.

* While on a mission, Batman is bit by Copperhead and nearly dies. Fortunately, he's given the antivenom. Unfortunately, it just nails home for Batman that he (a man who doesn't have any superpowers) is the weakest of the Justice League. He and Superman get into one of their rare arguments when Superman orders him to stay and recover. Knowing that Bruce secretly wishes to retain control in situations where he has none makes it an especially hard pill to swallow.

*** The worst part? In order to break free, Superman and Batman have to ''let'' Krypton be destroyed and the Waynes die. Not only do they have to live with the knowledge that their illusion is a lie...but have to grieve what could've been. It takes "Perchance to Dream" from "Batman: The Animated Series" and ramps up the tears.

* In a somber way, Waller had always tried to do what she thought was best for the world, but all her actions ultimately ended up creating the very monsters she wanted to destroy. What's worse is that because of all the misery in the world (most of which can be traced back to her and Cadmus), she genuinely believes that Terry turning into the second Batman was a good thing when Bruce had fought his entire life for a world where Batman would not exist.

It's especially sad since this means Bizarro ultimately became what Luthor wanted: A Superman under his control.
