Trivia for which I can't find the source back.

* TransformationRay: A bit literal in this case, but note that the first transformation is even less instantaneous than the other ones: Thomas realizes he's changed into a girl only the next day when he wakes up.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The original version had Thomas transforming with a very specific cell phone ringing that was in fashion at the time in-universe. And all of it because of sex-changing shrimps.

There isn't actual evidence that any of these characters was an expy (as in, "clearly deliberate reference on the part of the author").

* Expy: The characters of Justin and Aude are clearly based off SecretKeeper s Annie Mack and Ray Alvarado respectively, from the series Series/TheSecretWorldOfAlexMack; one being a TeenGenius sibling of the main character, while the other one is his opposite-sex closest friend. Possibly also Bastien, who, in the episode he appears in, fills a role that is quite similar to that of Tatewaki Kuno (except he's a rather mundane soccer player and a one-shot character).Aude may have a bit of Akane Tendo as well, as among other things, she is described as being a (former, in this case) Tomboy-ish girl with ACupAngst. She also plays Juliet in the Theatre/RomeoAndJuliet-themed episode, and even . It may be just a coincidence though, as she also initially has a crush on the Kuno expy, something the original Akane would definitely not do.

* GenderBender
** GenderBenderAngst: Especially prevalent in the very first episode (when Thomas believes the change to be permanent), though it can be seen throughout the whole show, mostly in season 1. It is often linked at least as much to the change in itself as to the idea of keeping it a secret.
** GenderBenderFriendship: Thomas attempts this on his crush Ally, first as Emmanuelle then as Julia in season 2. .
** FirstLawOfGenderBending: Thomas is a guy turning into a girl. He never manages to get rid of his "curse" (as he himself calls it once).
** SecondLawOfGenderBending: Heavily downplayed (if not downright averted at first), and possibly more apparent in season 2, where Thomas seems to be more accepting of the change.
** ThirdLawOfGenderBending: Downplayed. More present in season 2, with the über-feminine Julia. In season 1, Aude helps Emmanuelle deal with feminine behavior and clothes.
