A month after Kindaichi thwarts a bullying incident by two girls on another who's due to transfer soon, Kenmochi contacts him and Miyuki for help in catching a criminal with the moniker "Gentleman Thief", who's aiming to filch a prized painting from a wealthy painter in Aomori, whose mansion the three of them then proceed to reach. Soon after arriving, they meet the girl Kindaichi saved from bullying a month prior, but the joy in their reunion soon proves to be short-lived, as a murder case, in addition to the painting theft they've prepared themselves for, starts unfolding shortly thereafter.
