* BrokenAesop: Downplayed. Miss Bustier tells Marinette to try and change Chloé for the better by setting a good example. This isn't bad advice overall, but it is ignoring the fact that a large part of Chloé's bad behavior is that she rarely suffers the negative consequences of her bad behavior. Something that Miss Bustier is reinforcing by seemingly taking Marinette away for punishment rather than Chloé. Interestingly, it is both suffering consequences of her actions by being the primary target of the akumatized version of her nicest teacher as well as Marinette setting a positive example by taking back her earlier comment (that Chloé was heartless) which sets off the next step in Chloé's character development.

** Though it's worth noting that Chloé never apologized to Marinette for vandalizing her gift. She apologized to the easiest person for her to apologize to - her teacher - while the wronged party - Marinette - was left to be the bigger person.

* NearVillainVictory: Hawk Moth's attempt to akumatize Marinette would have gone one of two ways had Miss Bustier not been there, both of them very bad. Either the akumatization would have worked and Hawk Moth would have gotten one of the two Miraculouses he wants hand-delivered to him by its very owner (and the only one capable of purifying his akumas at that), or Marinette's Miraculous would make her immune, which would be a big hint for Hawk Moth about who Ladybug is. And it would've been [[AccidentalDiscovery completely unintentional on his part]]!

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Miss Bustier tells Marinette that Chloé is not a fundamentally bad person and has it in her to do great things; Chloé's actions later in the episode, not to mention her eventual stint as a genuine hero and holder of the Bee Miraculous, will prove this true. But she also mentions that Chloé is not the sort of person to change on her own, and will need a good role model; sure enough, Chloé is still set in her ways and has a long way to go.
** Also, Sabrina casually mentions that Chloé's mother forgets her birthdays, a sore point that will come to the fore in a few episodes' time.

More, Ms Bustier is the best teacher ever in Marinette's eyes, and it is [[HeroicSacrifice while trying to protect her pupil from the akuma that she ended up being the target]]. All that makes Marinette especially sorry and she shows an unusual sad face during her transformation sequence, which had never happened before.

* WhamEpisode:
** This episode establishes that Marinette and (presumably) Adrien can be detected by Hawk Moth as suitable akuma victims if their negative emotions become strong enough. In addition, Hawk Moth's WhamLine further reinforces the theory that he wants to use the wish he will get from obtaining the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses to bring back his wife.
** This is the first time we see an Akuma possess an object not in physical contact with the victim. However, the object was being held a second before being possessed.
* WhamLine:
** Hawk Moth's line after being defeated in this episode, "If love does always conquer, then someday, my most cherished wish will come true for sure!" Yet another strong hint that his end goal revolves around the safe return of Emilie.
** Another significant line from Sabrina:

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: When Rose is zombified and kisses Juleka in the bus offscreen, Juleka's expression and with her hands holding her mouth implies Rose kissed her on the lips as we don't see any kiss marks on her face or body.

* IWillOnlySlowYouDown: Chloé takes this position once she and Ladybug are all that are left against Zombizou.

* HeroicWillpower: Miss Bustier makes an admirable attempt to fight off Hawk Moth's influence when the akuma infects her lipstick, being the only person ''in the show'' to demonstrate any resistance at all, but ultimately he's able to talk her into accepting his power.

* CooldownHug: Downplayed. When Bustier hugs Chloé when she apologizes, she is first surprised and then clearly enjoys it before deciding to end it.

* TheCorruptor: Hawk Moth, as always, but since this is the first time we see an akuma victim trying to resist him, it is also an opportunity for him to show his skill at this: when Miss Bustier tries to fight him by saying she does not want to hurt anyone, he instantly offers her to spread love instead to get trough to her.

* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Invoked in the class PhotoMontage with Marinatte blissfully watching Adrien work on a chemical experiment while ignorantly messing up her own and Alya panicking over theirs.

* TheLoad: Chloé needs to be assisted and saved through most of episode, because Ladybug is using her as bait for Zombizou. She ends up being the only non-brainwashed student besides Marinette, thanks to her classmates' sacrifices.

* {{Tsundere}}: It takes getting her entire class getting zombified, but Chloé is willing to admit she was wrong and even leaves Miss Bustier a gift at the end. She just tries to make sure no one (except Ladybug and Cat Noir) actually see her do it.
