Zenigata is called by the ICPO chief to discuss a new operation to arrest Lupin with unorthodox means: astrology. The responsible for this strategy is the mysterious astrologist Marianne, a sultry woman who claims she can use her arts to arrest Lupin, much to Zenigata's skepticism. After releasing her pet pidgeon from the window, Marianne uses her crystal ball to predict that Lupin will target a nearby hotel for something very precious, but with their strategy the police will be able to arrest him.

Meanwhile, in his latest lair, Lupin reads of Marianne's involvment in the police operations and both he and Jigen make fun of Zenigata's desperate measures, though Goemon seems wary of her and consults his bamboo sticks oracle, which predict misfortune from a woman. Lupin though refuses to listen to this warning and is determinated to carry on his plan, driving towards the hotel while explaining that the wealthy King of the Danmaru Republic is currently visiting the place in incognito, and is carrying with him a priceless emerald, known as the Flame of Poseidon. However, Marianne's pidgeon is following the car, while the woman, currently inside the targeted hotel with Zenigata, explains that by using Lupin's horoscope and astrology she can divine who he will target. In the hall, the King Gabriel is enjoying and incredibly expansive meal, served by a disguised Fujiko, when he's approached by Zenigata, who learns of the emerald and warns Gabriel of the impending danger. The security is as thick as possible, but that doesn't stop Lupin from infiltrating the Hotel, gassing King Gabriel (after disguising himself as a shower) and making his way out with a hot air balloon. However, things go for the wrong side when Marianne's pidgeon blows the balloon, causing Lupin to fall into the swimming pool and being captured by Zenigata, as a stupefied Fujiko witness.

Later, as Jigen and Goemon discuss the blunder, Marianne spies them with her crystal ball and pidgeon and takes care of Goemon, seemingly hypnotizing him trhough the bird and causing him to leave Jigen, claiming that he will take the Flame of Poseidon as a souvenir for himself and slashing his sword at Jigen when he tries to stop him. As he leave the house, dumbfolded, the gunsman notice the pidgeon flying away... Meanwhile, Marianne warns Zenigata that Lupin will evade unless he's transferred into another prison, and so Zenigata has the thief taken away by plane. However, a swift interference by Goemon allows the thief to make a getaway by parachuting to an isolated island... which, apparently, was all part of Marianne's plan, as she reveals to Zenigata before parachuting on the island herself, knowing that, according to her latest prediction, Goemon will kill Lupin.

'''Arrest Lupin with Horoscopes''' [[note]] 星占いでルパンを逮捕 (''Hoshiuranai de Lupin wo Taihou'') [[/note]] with the English title of '''Lupin's Psychic Friend'''.

On the island, spied by Marianne's omnipresent bird, Goemon reveals that he wants to leave the gang and take the Flame with him as a souvenir and proceeds to attack Lupin. Jigen arrives too late to stop them and Lupin, clutching the Flame, falls into the sea, seemingly killed by Goemon's slashes. Marianne, donning a diving gear, recovers the stone and claims that her Astrology Operation is concluded, but is confronted by Lupin, who claims to have found out her secret: the entire plan's goal was to get her hands on the emerald. Marianne tries to use her "astrology" to have Lupin fall in love with her and shoot him unprepared, but she's interrupted by Jigen and Goemon, who destroy her bird and crystal sphere, revealing them to be nothing but machinery which amplifies Marianne's psychic abilities and allowed her to manipulate the events in her favor. Back on land, Marianne admits her defeat, just as Zenigata appears from nowhere to arrest Lupin, causing him to drop the emerald... which breaks into fragments upon hitting the ground, revealed as a worthless fake. It turns out that King Gabriel still owns the real Flame of Poseidon, as he explains to Fujiko, whom has promised to marry, because he knew of Lupin's fame, since his adventures are broadcasted in Danmaru's Republic and knew exactly how to react. And so the thief is left on the island, chasing Marianne with amorous intent, while Jigen asks Goemon if this was the misfortune predicted by his bamboo sticks.
