The responsible for this strategy is the mysterious astrologist Marianne, a sultry woman who claims she can use her arts to arrest Lupin, much to Zenigata's skepticism. After releasing her pet pidgeon from the window, Marianne uses her crystal ball to predict that Lupin will target a nearby hotel for something very precious, but with their strategy the police will be able to arrest him.

Lupin though refuses to listen to this warning and is determinated to carry on his plan, driving towards the hotel while explaining that the wealthy King of the Danmaru Republic is currently visiting the place in incognito, and is carrying with him a priceless emerald, known as the Flame of Poseidon. However, Marianne's pidgeon is following the car, while the woman, currently inside the targeted hotel with Zenigata, explains that by using Lupin's horoscope and astrology she can divine who he will target. In the hall, the King Gabriel is enjoying and incredibly expansive meal, served by a disguised Fujiko, when he's approached by Zenigata, who learns of the emerald and warns Gabriel of the impending danger. The security is as thick as possible, but that doesn't stop Lupin from infiltrating the Hotel, gassing King Gabriel (after disguising himself as a shower) and making his way out with a hot air balloon. However, things go for the wrong side when Marianne's pidgeon blows the balloon, causing Lupin to fall into the swimming pool and being captured by Zenigata, as a stupefied Fujiko witness.
