* HatePlague: After the Howling fails, all male dinosaurs just randomly start fighting and squabbling with each other. In addition to Earl and Roy, we also see a fight break out between Howard Handupme and Dwayne, the sports anchorman. [[note]] Just mere seconds after Howard himself [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this trope by calling it bickering and "widespread crankiness"[[/note]] Whether this is the result of the aforementioned "Pre-Howling Syndrome" or the actions of the aforementioned and so-called "Dark Spirit" is never really explained and kind of debatable.

Robbie turns 15 and has to start on the tradition of male dinosaurs howling at the moon, prophesized to bring the end of the world and turn dinosaur against dinosaur if they don't howl at the moon. However, Robbie does not understand the tradition and is also embarrassed by his howl sound. On his first night, Robbie suggests they all skip the howling just once and see what happens, and the moon gets covered by dark clouds, leading everyone to think the world is ending. But when the next day comes, it turns out Robbie was right, but various best friends, including Earl and Roy, continue arguing and fighting like the did before the moon came (as a result of pre-howling syndrome), and Robbie realizes that what the books really mean is that they keep dinosaurs from turning against each other.
