During a fight with Dr. Brainstorm, lasers from Calvin's Transmogrifier Gun and Dr. Brainstorm's Servant Ray combine and hit the bathroom mirror, which starts to ripple. Later, when Calvin is in the bathroom, he sees his reflection... with bloodshot eyes. Turns out, the combined blasts ended up tearing a hole between the main universe and a mirror universe, where everything is reversed. The mirror Calvin and Hobbes, Nivlac and Sebboh, have been trying to get to the main universe for quite some time, and now's their chance. They get into the main universe and throw Calvin and Hobbes into theirs, just before the portal closes. Now Calvin and Hobbes have to get back to their own universe.
They first try getting the parents to help, reasoning that since they were useless in the main universe they'd be useful in this one, but this doesn't work out, as in the Mirror Universe adults are in the roles of children (and vice versa). Mirror Mom and Dad act more like Calvin than anything. The pair then try to recreate the accident that caused the portal in the first place by firing Mirror Dr. Brainstorm's Servant Ray at the Mirror Universe's Transmogrifier Gun (made by Sebboh).
Meanwhile, Nivlac and Sebboh are settling into the place of Calvin and Hobbes. Nivlac is happy to be able to go to school like an adult, but Sebboh wants to take over the world. Nivlac is okay with this, as long as he gets some. Calvin manages to find Dr. Brainstorm and Jack... or, well, Dr. Mrotsniarb and Kcaj. They've basically switched roles; Mrotsniarb is the friendly, lazy assistant, and Kcaj is the manic MadScientist. Mrotsniarb lets them have the Servant Ray and tells them a little about Nivlac and Sebboh. Sebboh's the really evil one, and he lives with Nivlac because he needed a place to stay and he scared Nivlac into letting him in.
Calvin and Hobbes return to Nivlac's house and successfully recreate the accident, returning to their universe and throwing Nivlac and Sebboh back into the Mirror Universe. The portal is closed, and everything's back to normal.
