** In [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/49652731/chapters/137903440 the sequel]], the Vice Principal explains to Hitoshio how Aizawa never got over the death of Oboro Shirakumo. However, [[FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse that doesn't justify his irrational behavior]] while explaining to Hitoshi that had All Might not given Izuku an apprenticeship, Izuku would be left with no future other than [[ForcedIntoEvil villainy]], [[VigilanteMan vigilantism]] or a [[DrivenToSuicide rooftop plunge]]. And that the same fate could have easily befallen ''Hitoshi'' if he'd been expelled from U.A. rather than kicked back down into Gen Ed.

** One of Shinsou's {{Fatal Flaw}}s is that he constantly insists that [[PlayingTheVictimCard he's always the victim]], despite all evidence to the contrary.
** When Sato tries helping him during a training exercise, Shinsou brainwashed him into going away. He then [[NoPokerFace smirks]] when Aizawa [[BlamingTheVictim punishs Sato]] for "losing focus", clearly pleased at the sight. This makes the rest of 1-A much warier; Shinsou treats this as though they're stereotyping him as having a "naturally villainous Quirk", ignoring how he'd just demonstrated a willingness to abuse his Quirk.
** After realizing he won't be able to bang together a major assignment at the last second, Shinsou decides to [[spoiler:brainwash Momo into giving her a copy of her essay, then delete the original]], intending to [[PlagiarismInFiction pass their work off as his own]]. When this blows up in his face, the victim [[IndignantSlap slaps]] and calls him out; he insists they're just posturing, and that they only hate him for his Quirk.
** Aizawa also has elements of this. His blatant favoritism towards his apprentice encourages Shinsou's worst aspects, as he takes his teacher's protection for granted and as evidence that he's totally in the right. Aizawa's continued support of Shinsou winds up ruining his credibility, especially after his little stint into [[spoiler:attempted academic theft]]. At no point does Aizawa ever acknowledge the part he played in ''enabling'' Shinsou; the closest he ever comes is admitting that he's {{disappointed|InYou}} and that he "misjudged [his] potential".
