This is subverted, however, in that it doesn't work. Teal'c decides that "This method is ineffective" and gets a ride by walking out into the middle of the road in front of a van.

* Hilariously subverted in ''[[Film/{{Rush 2013}} Rush]]''. Marlene's car breaks down and after Niki fails to catch passerby's attention, Marlene tries, saying they wouldn't get help any other way. It seems to work, but it's then subverted when it turns out the two people that stopped are Ferrari fans and recognize [[UsefulNotes/FormulaOne Niki Lauda]] on sight.
