*** This specific Link's problems don't end there, either, as his adventure continues in ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Majora's Mask]]''. The now-WiseBeyondTheirYears Link is still an adorable kid that kicks plenty of ass, but the expanded lore that ''Majora's Mask'' brought to the table highlights just how '''incredibly''' screwed up his life really is, you just never see it in-game due to HeroicMime (and possibly HeroicSafeMode) being in effect as usual. Being one of the most iconic characters in gaming at the time means this did not go unnoticed by the fanbase: "Young Link"[[\labelnote]]as he was christened by ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosMelee''[[/labelnote]] is a ''very'' popular target of the DeconstructorFleet and the FixFic.

* The ''VideoGame/PrincessMaker'' series allows you to raise a little girl from prepubescence to adulthood, and activities include sending her adventuring and clearing bandits and monsters from the countryside with spell and sword (assuming you've actually trained her for it). Additionally, the second game has the option for your faceless protagonist to be one; the backstory is that you defeated the demon king and saved the kingdom, and you can set your starting age as low as ''eleven''. In other words, you're potentially only a year older than your ward, and you had your own share of epic heroics before puberty.

* The protagonists of ''VideoGame/{{Grounded}}'' are a group of young teenagers, 12-14 years old, who have been shrunken to insect size and stranded in a neglected backyard. They are plucky, resourceful, and willing to throw hands with a wolf spider (which is, proportionately, the size of a car) without flinching. As the closest thing resembling a responsible adult for most of the game is a wacky robot playing mission control [[spoiler:and the one ''actual'' adult being only marginally more helpful]], it's entirely up to the kids to take care of themselves, expore the yard for clues on how to fix their situation, and ultimately save everything.
