** There are basically two types of villains: run-of-the-mill thug and a super-villain with delusions of grandeur. The first type is not in it for anything more than a paycheck (slaver, pirate, drug dealer) and gets killed without remorse by the star pilots. The second type is not there for personal gain (although they get that too), they are there to pull their grand scheme and glorious plan for the galaxy. They are KarmaHoudini types because they are in it to feed their egos and thwarting them feeds egos of star pilots. So they are in love-hate relationships and symbiotic loops with each other and indeed do not care about the people they are fighting over. Just like in the sci-fi pulp stories the whole series is evoking, innocent bystanders are not given much thought and characterization besides being MacGuffin for hero and villain to fight over.

!! FridgeBrilliance

* Robert Blaze created the cure for the disease he is infected with. Why can't he just make more? Why do they need to steal it? [[spoiler: Because they're not after a cure for the disease at all.]]
* Warden dismisses the idea that Not-Jack could just walk into the apartment and ask Daniel to give over the cryogenic pod on a flimsy pretext. [[spoiler: Daniel knows its Terrorgorn and would just tell Not-Jack.]]
* The identity of Jacques [=McKewon=] [[spoiler: as an AI writing his stories]] makes perfect sense to novelists. [[spoiler: They're not original in the slightest but just repurposed and rephrased tales of other Star Pilots. Thus showing that it's all form of plagiarism.]]

!! FridgeHorror

* The star pilots may have been a bunch of man children but they were actually fighting a huge chunk of evil doers and, as we see with Terrorgorn and others like him. Without them, there's plenty of dangers unopposed by anyone.
** Even worse is the revelation that a lot of the archvillains are KarmaHoudini types like Malcolm Sturb because not even the star pilots really cared about their crimes. Plenty of them just retired because they didn't have their favorite opponents to play with (and quite a few married their archenemies). It means that the star pilots and their villains didn't ''care'' about the people they were fighting over.
