Dave, the Chipmunks and Chipettes go on a cruise ship to the International Music Awards. The munks cause trouble, leading to Dave having dinner with the captain to apologise. He then finds out that the ship's safety monitor, who dresses in a pelican suit, is none other than Ian, who obviously has a bone to pick with them. Unfortunately, Alvin, Simon, and the Chipettes escape for a night out and get caught, leading to a serious talking-to from Dave about responsibility.
The next day, the Chipmunks and Chipettes attempt to go para-sailing on a kite, but get swept away by the wind. Dave goes on a hang-glider to find them, but Ian tries to intervene, leading them to both fall overboard. Coincidentally, all parties end up on the same deserted island, but Dave and Ian arrive later. When the Chipmunks and Chipettes go into the jungle to find food, they encounter another island castaway, Zoe (Creator/JennySlate), who invites them to her tree house.
As the munks try to make the best of the situation and their roles in their respective trios suddenly shift, they try to maintain their hopes that Dave will find them and bring them home.
