* Though there are many {{Ship Tease}}s with him, Link has never had a canonical love interest [[note]]In the main-series games. This, however, doesn't stop some pretty vicious ShipToShipCombat to erupt within the fandom, with many fans insisting that their ship is canon and all others are invalid. This is pure cherrypicking "these were all errors, but this one part is totally right" and the conflation argument has merit considering they did exactly that with FS-FSA and the Oracles. Unless you're prepared to argue the book was also right when it said Kafei was turned into a Skullkid, lets go with Occams Razor of "it was an error".

* A small handful of fans refuses to acknowledge any game using the Toon Link cel-shading style (''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheWindWaker Wind Waker]]'', ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTheMinishCap The Minish Cap]]'', ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaFourSwords Four Swords]]'', ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaFourSwordsAdventures Four Swords Adventures]]'', ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass Phantom Hourglass]]'', ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSpiritTracks Spirit Tracks]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTriForceHeroes Tri Force Heroes]]'') as truly being part of the series. ''Four Swords Adventures'' is also often excluded due to the continuity issues, instead viewing it as its own continuity. The depressing implications about [[YouCantFightFate fate being unavoidable]] especially for the Gerudo and Ganondorf is another topic. Essentially Ganondorf is reincarnated, given the name Ganondorf despite having the original having a bad reputation, and turns out exactly the same despite the Gerudo attempting to prevent this by making him a guardian of the tribe instead of their king. Another aspect is that Miyamoto actually [[ExecutiveVeto re-wrote the plot]] as a retelling so continuity wouldn't be in mind, hence trying to fit in the timeline at this point seems like a {{Retcon}} in itself. Lastly, while ''Tri Force Heroes'' is canonically set after ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'', fans reject this because [[YouDontLookLikeYou Link and Zelda look nothing like their previous designs]] and, if anything, they look ''younger'' despite years passing; these fans feel that the game could have fit better in other branches (i.e. Adult), while others didn't even see it suitable in the chronology to begin with..

Here's a friendly suggestion: When adding examples of audience reactions, make sure the example represents a significant fan sentiment (not necessarily a majority, but at least a visible one within the fandom). That you've purposedly "outed [yourself]" (per edit reason) raised the red flag that you're only speaking for yourself (the "rare fan") when writing this example (and AFAIK, timeline theorists either agree with all three branches, at least with two, or with none and perceive each Zelda game as retellings of the same story; all of these opinions are well-documented and easy to verify, not so much the one you're coming up with)

* And then there is the rare fan who decides the games have only one single timeline anyways, making the entirety of the split timeline discontinuity for them. Naturally, they'll have their own fanon interpretation of what really happened with Ocarina of Time.
