** Some also opt to discount [[Film/AmericanWedding the third film]] due to the absence of several main characters. Jim and Michelle getting married is pretty much the only thing that's acknowledged in ''Reunion'' and fans considered that a given, so viewers can easily go from the second film to the fourth without missing anything important.

** Even Creator/DavidAyer doesn't acknowledge ''Film/SuicideSquad2016'', stating that his orginal vision is still on the cutting room floor. Bits of what could have been can be seen in the trailers, novelization and a (slightly) extended edition, but for the most part Ayer's cut has yet to be seen in its entirety and likely never will. Most fans prefer to start with either ''Film/BirdsOfPrey'' or ''Film/TheSuicideSquad''.
** ''Film/JusticeLeague2017'' was immediately discarded once word got out that [[Film/ZackSnydersJusticeLeague an alternate cut of the film]] would be released in 2021, as Joss Whedon's attempts to draw in audiences who weren't fans of Zack Snyder culminated in a film where the titular League's characterization was pushed aside in favour of tacked-on quips, a soundtrack by Danny Elfman that aimed for nostalgia rather than following Hans Zimmer or Tom Holkenberg's themes and cutting out several actors, many of whom were persons of color.

** ''Film/ShazamFuryOfTheGods'' didn't go over quite as well as its predecessor, thanks to being a cliche "superhero loses their superpowers but gets them back" sequel, as well as not using any of Captain Marvel's rogues gallery not introducing any more of his supporting cast to the point where the film didn't bear much resemblance to the comics.

Added DiffLines:

* The first ''Film/{{Ghostbusters}}'' proved a hard act to follow, as pretty much every cinematic follow-up has the titular ghostbusters back at square one and playing the ignored experts regardless of how much sense that makes.

Added DiffLines:

** To a lesser extent, the even-numbered ''Thor'' sequels aren't considered as significant as the first ''Film/Thor2011'' or ''Film/ThorRagnarok'' thanks to both sequels trying to juggle a tragic love story with MCU-brand comedy and setting up an enemy for Thor whose interactions with him never go any further than eating his hammer. They also had a habit of treating their female characters as satellites to Thor, while ''Ragnarok'' introduced both a female hero and a female villain with independent character arcs.

** ''Film/WonderWoman1984'' never happened in many fans' eyes, thanks to the massive ContinuitySnarl that reveals she was still active despite her statement in ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' that she'd been laying low for the past century, the overwhelmingly LighterAndSofter aesthetic that didn't match up with its [[Film/WonderWoman2017 more somber predecessor]], having her arch-nemesis Cheetah be an afterthought and worst of all, [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale sleeping with a man whose consciousness was overridden by Steve Trevor]].

** ''Film/TheFlash2023'' served as a reboot so that the new DC continuity established by James Gunn and Peter Safran could be considered a follow-up to Gunn's previous DCEU works, but the overreliance on nostalgia, badly-rendered VFX and mishandling of pretty much every character meant that pretty much everybody was content to just say there's two completely different continuities.
** ''Film/AquamanAndTheLostKingdom'' was received well enough, but due to being the last DCEU film, fans would rather not acknowledge that the very last thing you see in the entire franchise is [[spoiler: Orm eating a cockroach]].

Spelling/grammar fix(es)

* Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse: The movies are rather well-received... except for ''Film/{{The Incredible Hulk|2008}}''. The least-known film, one of the first (only preceded by ''Film/IronMan1''), and the one that fans most often 'forget.' Some justify this due to TheOtherDarrin setting in for Bruce once ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}'' rolled around. It's not as extreme of a case as so many others on this list, as some fans still include references or base fics off of it, but many prefer to forget that it's part of the series. If not for the fact that Tony Stark appears in the final scene of the movie (which is itself related to the [[Film/MarvelOneShots one shot]] ''Film/TheConsultant''), and that Thunderbolt Ross became a semi-regular starting with ''Film/CaptainAmericaCivilWar'', most fans would assume that [[CanonDiscontinuity Marvel themselves considered it non-canon]], or at least [[BroadStrokes Broad Strokes Canon]]. (although seeing the Abomination in ''Film/ShangChiAndTheLegendOfTheTenRings'' didn't help matters... or ''[[WesternAnimation/WhatIf2021 What If...?]]'' not discarding the movie from the MCU's past, even if there [[FlashbackWithTheOtherDarrin Mark Ruffalo had always played the Hulk]])
* Fans of ''Film/TheMask'' almost unanimously loathe its [[Film/SonOfTheMask sequel]] mostly because of its overwhelmingly horrible quality and lack of Creator/JimCarrey. They feel insulted having a long-awaited follow up to a beloved [[TheNineties 90s]] quirky superhero crime thriller comedy be a mind-numbingly atrocious LighterAndSofter kids film chock full of [[NightmareFuel Nightmare]] and NauseaFuel and thus only see the first film worthy of canon.

* Ignoring ''Film/TheNextKarateKid'' is easy. Some fans also brushed aside the reviled ''Film/TheKarateKidPartIII'' too, until ''Series/CobraKai'' came out and heavily relied on its events as basis for the third season (Kreese and Terry Silver's backstory) and fourth season (which brings back Terry Silver).

* ''Film/PacificRim'' fans often refuse to acknowlege sequel ''Film/PacificRimUprising'' for a number of reasons. The tone is vastly different (as original writer and director Creator/GuillermoDelToro was busy with the ''Film/TheShapeOfWater'',) and detractors deem it resembling something that Creator/MichaelBay made rather than anything in line with the first movie. The two protagonists of the first get shortchanged, with Raleigh not even appearing (even worse, he [[BusCrash randomly died off-screen from cancer in a tie-in novel]]), while Mako Mori, often praised as a feminist role model, gets DemotedToExtra while [[StuffedInTheFridge being killed halfway through]] to serve as emotional development for the new male lead. A third returning character who is also incredibly popular, [[spoiler: Newt]], suffers a sudden FaceHeelTurn that wasn't foreshadowed in any way in the first film and even caused the actor to express CreatorBacklash.

* A number of ''Film/SpyKids'' fans agree that the less said about the [[Film/SpyKids3DGameOver third film]], with its poor writing (including an ending which made no sense whatsoever by failing to explain how the virtual reality creations ended up in the real world) and a stupid "3D" gimmick, ''the better''! It doesn't help that it was a DolledUpInstallment made from a totally unrelated script.

Johnny Depp was acquitted of those charges and all evidence shows he was actually the victim of domestic abuse rather than the abuser. However, it is true that his inclusion at the time when this wasn't know did not paint a good picture, so I'm just rewording it.
