Kamala is set to make her Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse debut in the Creator/DisneyPlus series ''Series/MsMarvel'' in June 2022.

* EverybodyKnewAlready: In vol. 2 #31, [[spoiler:Kamala reveals to her friends at her sleepover that she is Ms. Marvel. Their response is that they've known for a long time, and point out that Kamala isn't ''that'' good at hiding her secret identity. They just didn't want to tell her until they thought she was ready to talk about it]]
** And then in issue 1 (Legacy #58) of Magnificent Ms Marvel, her mother finally tells her Dad that Kamala is Ms. Marvel. He's the first person who didn't figure it out on his own, and Kamala had a reason why she didn't tell him - as she expected, he was angry that she was risking her life!

* FirstKiss: Kamala has hers with fellow superhero Laal Khanjeer / Red Dagger. However, it coincides with Bruno's return from his study abroad in Wakanda, causing Kamala to freak out about the ramifications. She's still very new to the world of romance, and seeks out Sheikh Abdullah to give her guidance.
* FishOutOfWater: In her first two volumes, Kamala mainly sticks to Jersey City, with the more outré adventures occurring when she's part of a team. In Volume 3, she spends a good deal of time out of J.C., first on the distant planet of Saffa when they mistake her for their "Destined One", then in central New Jersey when a road trip with Nakia and Zoe causes her to cross paths with Lockdown, Discord, and the sinister start-up Rubicon.

* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: After being exposed to the Terrigen Mist, Kamala receives a vision of Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Captain America. They explain that they are "''faith''", and she is seeing them as she needs to see them.

* HeroWithBadPublicity: In the first story arc of the re-launch, Ms. Marvel's image was used by the Hope Yards project without her permission while she was too busy getting used to her role as an Avenger to notice. Even after exposing Hope Yard's sinister agenda and putting a stop to it, she's considered a sell-out who had only opposed Hope Yards once it was revealed to be headed by an actual supervillain. This got worse during Civil War 2, though her reputation began to recover afterwards.

* HowDoIShotWeb:
** Kamala has a lot of difficulty in first understanding her powers. They start off tied to her emotional state (shrinking when she feels small, turning into Carol Danvers when she thinks of Captain Marvel) and she is unable to control them willingly at first.

** Ms. Marvel also goes through a literal version of this trope in ''Marvel Team-up'', when a FreakyFridayFlip puts her mind in Peter Parker's body. Learning his spider-powers takes her most of an issue.

* {{Joisey}}: A big part of Kamala's characterization is that she lives in Jersey City, and writer G. Willow Wilson has actually gone to great lengths to replicate the experience of daily life in Jersey City and what it's like to grow up there. Kamala's high school is based on a real high school in Jersey City: [=McNair=] Academic High School, though (ostensibly for legal reasons) the school is referred to as ''Coles'' Academic High School, after Coles Street, the actual street that [=McNair=] Academic High School is located on. Even the visual image of the school's exterior is pretty much an exact copy of how [=McNair=] looks in RealLife. It's been explained that since a big part of Kamala's characterization is the fact that she's very dorky, G. Willow Wilson chose [=McNair=] as her alma mater since it's a high-achieving public magnet school.

* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Kamala is beside herself with glee when she first meets Wolverine (much to his annoyance), and when she gets saved by Spider-Man. And when she met Carol Danvers... oh gosh. Reached it's peak when she was asked to join the Avengers, though she did have a minor moment afterwards when she met the original Nova shortly after his resurrection (though she notes that [[FandomNod some of his online fans put even her to shame in this department]]).

** Aamir's parents are hesitant when he announces his intention to marry Tyesha, his black girlfriend, as they'd prefer he marry a nice Pakistani girl. Their opinion is swayed when Tyesha demonstrates knowledge of traditional Pakistani Muslim traditions, such as the bride living with the family until the husband can afford to buy an apartment. Aamir also helps his case when he points out that they set Kamala up with a Pakistani boy in the past, and that being from the same ethnic background didn't preclude the boy in question from being a complete [[TheSociopath asshole.]] Tyesha's parents are also hesitant, since they're Christians (Tyesha converted in college), but they are swayed when Yusuf gives a heartfelt speech about treating Tyesha like a daughter.
** Also the reason why Kamala's parents won't let Bruno, who is Italian-American, date her, regardless of how much they like and trust him. Aamir explains to him they do this in order to ensure their cultural lineage is passed down.

* MeaningfulName: The name Kamala's name is based on "''kamal''", an Arabic word for "''perfection''" though in Urdu-Hindustani (which is the language in Pakistan, ''not Arabic'') it usually means, colloquially, "awesome". Orthographically, the word Kamala makes as much sense as Marvel's usual word choices (which runs on RuleOfCool[[note]]For instance a poor Roma boy getting the aristocratic surname of Von Doom, or a [[WhiteAngloSaxonProtestant WASP]] being named Charles Francis Xavier, which sounds Catholic[[/note]]) since Kamala is a separate Sanskrit word that refers to the Lotus flower, and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamala#Deities_called_Kamala_as_a_praise-name is usually the name]] of a girl born to a Hindu background, which implies that Ms. Marvel's mother is quite a good deal more syncretic than she lets on. The name Kamal does exist among Muslim communities but it doesn't have a feminine form in that context.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When an Inhuman calling herself Kaboom starts ranting about the superiority of Inhumans and refers to humans as a "''subspecies''", Kamala [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything (a Muslim and second-generation Pakistani-American, remember)]], loses her cool and hits Kaboom hard enough to nearly kill her. Kamala panics and runs away once she realizes what happened.

* NiceHat: Kamala's ushanka(the correct name for a "Russian furry hat") is starting to become iconic. It can be seen cropping up other places in the comic, such as on a pigeon during her Inhuman transformation.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: The Inventor is a [[spoiler:mad scientist/cyborg/clone/bird-man.]]

* OhCrapThereAreFanficsOfUs: Kamala was a fanfic writer herself before she acquired her powers. This draws attention to the existence of fanfic about superheroes within the world in which they exist.
** In Kamala's own title, she gets to inflict this trope on ComicBook/{{Wolverine}} when she meets him.

** However, in the first ''ComicBook/AllNewAllDifferentAvengers'' annual, she's horrified to discover fanfics of herself and her teammates. It starts with a love triangle involving herself, the new Spidey, and Nova, and gets worse from there.

* PostModernMagik: Bruno has no magical skill himself but he's capable of sampling the lightning golems Loki left for the school and combining that with Kamala's DNA to make simple-minded clones. He's also capable of using it to 3D print pretty much whatever animate thing he wants. Parodied later on when he attempts to summon Loki using Hipster iconography (glasses, franchise coffee cups) in a summoning circle.

* ReedRichardsIsUseless: If there was ever a sign that the Marvel universe at large suffers from this, it's the issue where Kamala and Bruno compete in a science fair against ComicBook/MilesMorales. Kamala's team makes floating water, Miles' makes a generator that converts static electricity into energy, Bruno brings a '''portable cold fusion generator that can fit in his pocket'''. Somehow none of this results in the world changing overnight and energy companies throwing enough money in Kamala, Bruno, and Miles' faces to let them retire.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Naftali, who show's up in issue 25 of Vol. II. Not a terrible example, though his supposedly close friendship with Kamala, and the pep talk he gives her come off a bit hollow as a result.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: She can shift her clothes along with herself when she changes shape or size. However, this is stated to take more effort, to justify giving her a costume and domino mask.
* RhetoricalRequestBlunder: This exchange, thanks to Kamala really not knowing who she was dealing with:

** There's a chubby kid in Kamala's school who seems to be asleep every time we see him on panel.
** Her love of writing fanfics involving Marvel characters, most of which sound ridiculous (and awesome). One is a crossover between the Avengers and ''Magical Pony Adventures''[[note]]the Marvel-616 analogue to ''Franchise/MyLittlePonyGeneration4''[[/note]], and another involves Wolverine and Storm fighting a monster that farts wormholes.
** Kamala being [[YouAreGrounded grounded]] for sneaking out, being late etc..

* SecretSecretKeeper: The second-to-last issue before the relaunch reveals that [[spoiler:Kamala's mother]] had made the connections to Ms. Marvel's identity months ago. Later, she reveals herself to her friends only to discover they too already knew for a while at that point.

** When Bruno admonishes Kamala on [[DoWrongRight smelling forbidden bacon but not eating it]], he advises her “Chow or chow not, there is no smell.” Kamala responds with “Thanks, [[Franchise/StarWars Yoda]].”

** The {{Creator/Konami}} code can be seen written on a wall in the sewers.

** Though Kamala wishes for more freedom and independence from her parents, she is still devoutly Muslim and refuses to drink alcohol. When she goes to a [[WildTeenParty party]] and is offered a drink, she asks if there is any alcohol in it and is assured that it is just orange juice. Once she drinks it, they add "plus some vodka". She promptly does a SpitTake.

** The series in many ways feels like a modern day take on Spider-Man, being about a nerdy teenager who suddenly gains superpowers, and the problems that come with that; so much so that Spider-Man himself acknowledges it.. Rather than being a science whiz however, Kamala spends her time writing fanfiction and browsing social media.
** Kamala's role during ''ComicBook/CivilWarII'' can be comparable with ComicBook/AnyaCorazon's during first ''ComicBook/CivilWar''. Both are mentored by Carol Danvers, both fight for her side (''initially'', in Kamala's case), and eventually feel bad when they start questioning themselves whether they fight for justice or not.
* SpitTake: Kamala's reaction after she is told that the orange juice she drank also had vodka in it.

* StopBeingStereotypical: Kamala and her friend Nakia (Turkish-American) come from well-assimilated families who want their children to take part in American society. Kamala’s dad wants his son to spend less time praying and find a job, and Nakia’s dad wants her to stop wearing a hijab ("He thinks it is 'a phase'").

* TeensAreMonsters: Kamala's class had to analyse an article claiming this. Nakia is outraged that someone can just write off a whole generation like this, and Kamala points out that it's dangerous too as every generation has to solve the problems the previous one created. [[spoiler:Kamala later uses the same article as a way to tell The Inventor's brainwashed teens that they are not solving anything by letting themselves get turned into organic batteries.]]

* UnexpectedlyRealMagic: Played with and ultimately subverted: When some of Kamala's friends think they need to summon Loki, who they refer to as "hipster Viking dude," they try a ludicrously made-up ritual using hipster iconography. Loki does eventually show up, not because the ritual worked, but because he couldn't stand how silly it all was anymore. [[PassThePopcorn He even brought popcorn.]]

* UnwantedAssistance: Pretty much every bit of "help" from Loki. He actually genuinely want to help, he is just terrible at it, and a troll.

* WeaponizedAnimal: [[spoiler:Issue #6 has Crocodiles with [[EnergyWeapon Frickin' Laser Beams]] on their heads, along with other gadgets]].

* WhamLine: From issue 18:

** When Creator/SaladinAhmed took over as the writer of the book, the Khan family learns that [[spoiler:Yusuf is terminally ill.]]
* AffectionateNickname: By Volume 2, citizens of Jersey City have begun to call her Big M, and her friend [[ComicBook/MilesMorales Spider-Man]] occasionally calls her "Marv".

* AlternateUniverse: [[spoiler:When Kamala & Shocker get caught up in his flawed wormhole generator, Bruno, in trying to rescue them, sees several possible versions of Kamala's future: in one, he and Kamala get married (in a traditional Pakistani ceremony, no less), in another ''she becomes President of The United States''. This last one was previously used by Tom Taylor in the final issues of his run on ''Comicbook/AllNewWolverine'', which showed President Kamala being irritated by Laura breaking into the White House so they could talk, instead of using her status as leader of a major nation (Madripoor) to make an appointment.]]

** This has not slowed down since she got powers of her own; The first ''All-New All-Different Avengers'' Annual followed her evening reading fanfic after a hard day of crimefighting. It also revealed that [[spoiler:Miles Morales]] is fanfic writer too, and their favorite board's moderator is none other than [[spoiler:Phil Coulson]].

* BadassNormal: Occasional guest-star Pakistani hero Laal Khanjeer (Red Dagger) is a self-taught master of LeParkour and [[KnifeNut knife throwing]]. Kamala is clearly a little impressed that someone can become a superhero just by deciding to and working at it, rather than acquiring exotic powers by chance.

* BewareTheNiceOnes: Kamala is generally a very nice, caring person, who subscribes to the "appropriate amount of force" doctrine when fighting her enemies. But if they willfully threaten innocents or people she cares about, her attitude does such a 180 that's it's like flipping a switch, and she stops holding back.

* BigDamnKiss: [[spoiler:After more than their fair share of "will they or won't they?" moments throughout the various series, Kamala and Bruno finally share one in ''Magnificent'' #9.]]

* CharacterShilling: In a rare example of Administrivia/TropesAreNotBad for this trope, everyone loves Kamala in-universe, for good reason. She makes quite the impression on Wolverine, Carol Danvers quickly decides that Kamala is exactly the right person to carry on the Ms. Marvel name, Queen Medusa of the Inhumans takes a special interest in the young woman, Spider-Man states that she reminds him of himself as a teen and he thinks she's doing fine as a superhero and person, Tony Stark likes her enough to add her to the new Avengers roster ''and help her with her physics homework''. Everyone says there's "something special" about Kamala Khan, and they're certainly right. She may not be the most powerful superhero around, but her high moral standards, amazing attitude, and pure heart make her someone easy to love, in-universe and out. The point is proven big time in All-New Wolverine #33; in a story set 30 years in the future, it's revealed that Kamala was elected as President of the United States.
* CharacterTic: Whenever she's mad, Kamala has a habit of grimacing and cutting her eyes to the side.

* CluelessDudeMagnet: Kamala herself is a fairly chaste hero, but a number of male characters (her own age, thankfully) have expressed interest in her. These include her own crushes like Bruno, Kamran, and Laal / Red Dagger, but also a few fellow heroes in various team-up books such as ComicBook/{{Nova}}, ComicBook/MilesMorales, and Inferno.

* ContinuitySnarl: Despite what's seen in issue #12, there was no time when Loki worked for the All-Mother (he quit in issue #5 of ''ComicBook/LokiAgentOfAsgard'') ''and'' Odin was also around (he was freed from his self-exile in ''ComicBook/OriginalSin'', which takes place right ''after'' Loki:[=AoA=] #5).

* EarlyBirdCameo: Kamala Khan was retroactively identified as a foreground character in ''Captain Marvel'' #14 before the official announcement that she was the new Ms. Marvel. ''Captain Marvel'' #17, which was published after the announcement, concludes with an unnamed appearance as she uses her transformation powers.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In Kamala's first appearance in ''Captain Marvel'' #14, she looked markedly different, appearing older, having a different hairstyle and fashion sense, and even wearing lipstick. According to Wilson, the ''Captain Marvel'' artists were working off of a generic description of the character and didn't yet know what her finalized design would look like.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In the aforementioned cameo in ''Captain Marvel'' #17, Kamala's powers are depicted more along the lines of HulkingOut rather than shapeshifting or stretching. This is because the ''Captain Marvel'' artists thought her becoming more muscular would be the serious and realistic approach, while the more cartoonish and surreal nature of her powers wouldn't be nailed down until Adrian Alphono came aboard.

* ExpressiveMask: Her superhero costume is par for the course in expressiveness.

* HealingFactor: Part of her shapeshifting powers, allowing her to heal from fatal wounds (and in #7, electrocuting herself to short out a death trap) quickly. She can't use her other powers while healing, though, and it also leaves her feeling ''very'' hungry. If she heals too much at once, her shapeshifting abilities (such as for changing her appearance) become greatly weakened due to lack of energy.

* HumbleHero: After saving a couple's infant child, they praise her as "a real hero" and her response is an understated "I'm trying".

* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Kamala is beside herself with glee when she first meets Wolverine (much to his annoyance), and when she gets saved by Spider-Man. And when she met Carol Danvers...oh gosh. * {{Fanfic}}: Kamala writes ''Avengers'' fanfic, and is in the midst of chronicling their adventures on “''Planet Unicorn''” in the first issue. She also writes ''X-Men'' fanfic, mentioning a “Wolverine and Storm in space” fic she wrote in issue #6. All sound {{Crack|fic}}tastic. She’s also very pleased when an adventure on an alien planet leads an alien child to create fanfic about ''her'' — which, it is implied, becomes something of a sacred text for the alien race...

** Downplayed. Kamala's brother Aamir is the most devout Muslim of the family and disparages his father’s job since it involves usury (He works at a bank). Their father wishes Aamir would focus less time on prayer and more time on finding a job. Even though he's conservative and dresses, in his mother's words "like a penniless mullah", no one ever accuses him of being a terrorist, and he's shown wearing a western-style suit when going on a job interview. In the last pre ''ComicBook/SecretWars2015'' comic he also informs [[spoiler:Kamran]] in no uncertain terms that while, yes, he is devout etcetera, he's not going to take [[spoiler:Kamran's]] side just because he's a guy and absolve him of all responsibility for what happened between him and Kamala. Quite the opposite, in fact. Then he punches [[spoiler:Kamran]] in the face. Kamala is astonished (having assumed that Aamir hated her), Carol Danvers less so -- as she remarks, [[BigBrotherInstinct Aamir is Kamala's big brother, he has her back]] (even if he's not precisely sure what's going on).

* GenkiGirl: Zoe is extremely perky, and Kamala describes her as “so adorable and happy”. Kamala’s friends, however, [[SubvertedTrope call her the "concern troll” and say that she only acts nice so she can make snide, insulting comments disguised as friendly conversation]]. Kamala herself is one to the Marvel Universe as a whole. She instantly fangirls over team-ups and has such a chipper attitude that even her [[ComicBook/MsMarvel predecessor]] can't help but spend the last moments before an apocalypse with her.
* GrandfatherClause: Kamala says that, [[TemptingFate if she were Ms. Marvel]], she would wear the “classic, [[{{Stripperiffic}} politically incorrect]] [[LeotardOfPower costume]] and kick butt in [[CombatStilettos giant wedge heels]].” The second issue has her realize that extremely long hair will get blown into your face by the wind, giant wedge heels are not comfortable to walk in, and that politically incorrect costumes give epic wedgies.
* GreenSkinnedSpaceBabe: Well, one adventure has Ms Marvel working with a purple-skinned (and shirtless) space hunk. [[spoiler:Her mother, who’s along on this occasion, is less than happy about this]].

* HowDoIShotWeb: Kamala has a lot of difficulty in understanding her powers. They start off tied to her emotional state (shrinking when she feels small, turning into Carol Danvers when she thinks of Captain Marvel) and she is unable to control them willingly at first.

* InSeriesNickname: Loki is pretty much renamed the ''{{Hipster}} [[HornyVikings Viking]]'' by the characters, and doesn't seem to mind it at all.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Invoked during the climactic battle with the Inventor (justified because it's his BerserkButton):

* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: As a long-standing fan of superheroes, Kamala frequently comments on the situations she is in, in terms that are quite logical in context but sound exactly like a comics fan.

** Also invoked when Kamala finds a fellow Inhuman tearing up Jersey City, with a heavy dashing of DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything:

** When Amir gets arrested he assumes it's a case of this and gives police a piece of his mind before being told that it is not the reason, but that [[spoiler:new law makes them round up all people with superpowers]]

* MixAndMatchCritters: Kamala has a stuffed toy of a winged sloth in her bedroom, a favorite from when she was very young. [[spoiler:In the final issue of G. Willow Wilson's run, Kamala and her friends are sucked into a pocket dimension where this thing plays the role of some combination of video game NPC and SpiritAdvisor.]]
* MixAndMatchMan: The Inventor. [[spoiler:He claims to be Thomas Edison's [[CloningBlues clone]], but due to an accident, his DNA got contaminated with that of his creator's pet cockatiel, which is why he looks like [[BirdPeople an anthropomorphised bird]]. [[BerserkButton don't let him hear you call him that though]]]].

* MoodMotif: In the first issue, Kamala sees Iron Man, Captain Marvel and Captain America singing the first verse of the traditional qawwali "''Sakal bun phool rahi sarson''", a song about a joyous trip to the shrine of the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya. This sounds like the ''qawwali'' is only a reminder of Kamala's heritage and beliefs, but the ''second'' half of the song mentions someone absent from this procession who promised to be there, tying the song to Kamala's having disobeyed her parents by sneaking out AND to Marvel itself, for both the in-universe superheroes and the comic industry seem to be saying that someone like Kamala should not only be one of them--but she should have been among their number before. * NoPeriodsPeriod: Unsurprisingly, mostly invoked given the books target audience. The most blatant reference so far was in ''Marvel Team-Up'' #2 when [[spoiler:Spider-Man and Kamala accidentally switch bodies; Peter-as-Kamala blows an important school assignment (a spoken presentation) because he's taken unaware by her menstrual cramps. When learning of this, Kamala-as-Peter is mainly concerned that he may have screwed up her grade and seems ''incredibly'' blasé about him having to attend to her body's intimate needs, only snarking "Welcome to being a teenage girl."]]

** In Kamala’s own title, she gets to inflict this trope on ComicBook/{{Wolverine}} when she meets him.

'''Wolverine:''' Sounds great, kid. ... Wait[=--=]so what was the ''most'' upvoted story?\\

* OverprotectiveDad: Kamala’s father only responds with "''Very funny''" when she asks if she can go to a party with boys. In later issues he tends to be the more supportive and sympathetic parent when tensions over Kamala's newfound secrecy start flaring up after she gains her powers. Only to a point, though, as he's quick to ground her when she can't fully explain herself.

* BastardBoyfriend: [[spoiler:Kamran.]] Well, ''almost'' boyfriend anyway.

** [[Videogame/WorldOfWarcraft World of Battlecraft]]

* BlessedWithSuck: In Issue #31 Kamala meets a disgruntled pizza girl who's an Inhuman like her. Except Samantha is an AnimalThemedSuperbeing with skunk powers... and [[PowerIncontinence she hasn't figured out how to control her foul scent]].
* BreakoutCharacter: Kamala herself in the greater Marvel Universe. Not only did the sales of the comic far exceed anyone's expectations, even easily outselling the former Ms. Marvel's new series, but by the end of 2014 she was already showing up in major guest spots in other comics, such as ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' and ''S.H.I.E.L.D.'' With her cross-cultural appeal credited with drawing female Muslim readers into buying comics, many critics started calling her the new Spider-Man.

** In issue #8 Kamala muses that half of heroism is ''not'' thinking and acting like this.

* CallingYourAttacks: She's kind of grown out of this, but still uses it sometimes to activate certain powers, or shouting "Power Attack!" when she's about to deliver a ''really big'' punch.

** And that's not limited to the comics. ''VideoGame/MarvelUltimateAlliance3TheBlackOrder'' reveals she writes Gamora/Star-Lord fanfic as well (something the real Gamora dreads finding out what it means), and in ''VideoGame/MarvelsAvengers'', her 12-year-old self gets to visit the Avengers event in San Francisco by entering a contest in which she submitted a story called "Avengers vs. The Sewer Lizards" - which, according to Captain America, Thor really enjoyed.
