Adam Warlock is a Creator/MarvelComics cosmic hero who has starred in more than one series. He's best known for being the personal nemesis of ComicBook/{{Thanos}}, for his connection to ComicBook/TheInfinityGauntlet and the Soul Gem, and as a founding member of the 616 version of the ComicBook/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy.

He first appeared in ''Fantastic Four'' vol. 1 #66-67 (September-October, 1967), created by Creator/StanLee and Creator/JackKirby for a ComicBook/FantasticFour story, but as "Him", an artificial lifeform who had escaped its creators. In ''Marvel Premiere'' #1 (April, 1972) writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane reinvented him as Marvel [[NoSuchThingAsSpaceJesus Space Jesus]], complete with crucifixion and resurrection! His task was to save an artificial parallel Earth (CounterEarth) from [[SatanicArchetype a rebellious creation of its maker]], The High Evolutionary.

Nevertheless, he never really took off until a new writer got his hands on him - [[MyRealDaddy Jim Starlin]]. It was under him that Adam became the [[WarriorPoet philosopher-hero]] that he is best known to be today, as well as the ArchEnemy of Thanos. Starlin also introduced the rest of his supporting cast including Pip the Troll (his best friend, a drunken space satyr) and Gamora, his love interest, Thanos' former personal assassin.

Adam's major storylines involve his [[FutureMeScaresMe Evil Future Self]], The Magus, whom he eliminated from existence by ''killing himself in the future'' (both got better later) and the Infinity Gems, a collection of gemstones (said to be PiecesOfGod) that grant {{omnipotence}} if used all at the same time (Adam was given one, the Soul Gem, by the Evolutionary. He and his allies later took to guarding the rest, as a team known as The Infinity Watch.)

Warlock has suffered at the hands of lesser writers over the years, but still exists in the Franchise/MarvelUniverse and occasionally pops up to save the day again.

* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: After ''Annihilation'', he chanced upon Thanos' corpse in deep space and decided to put him into one of his cocoons that would resurrect him as a potential secret weapon if the need ever arose.
* CreepyChild: [[spoiler: In the Annihilators: Earthfall mini, this is the form Magus is revived as. He possesses the bodies of other children to prevent the Avengers from attacking him.]]

* CosmicKeystone: The Infinity Gems.

* DistaffCounterpart: 'Her' (later renamed Kismet), a second creation of the Enclave. She sought out Warlock [[AdamAndEvePlot to mate with him]], but he was "dead" at the time.

* HeelFaceTurn: Gamora, raised by Thanos to kill Adam (to keep him from becoming his rival, The Magus, in the future) but fell in love with him instead.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: It took Gamora a long time to realize her feelings for Adam, even after befriending him.

* MadScientist: The Enclave, the trio who created Adam to be a living weapon with which to TakeOverTheWorld. He had other ideas.
** The High Evolutionary is a superpowered one, with [[AGodAmI a God Complex]] to boot.

* ReligionOfEvil: The Church of Universal Truth, run and founded by the Magus.

* TheSmartGuy: The one who fixes the [[NegativeSpaceWedgie NegativeSpaceWedgies]] the team encounter, and the most together male on the team. Yes, they're that dysfunctional.
* SoulPower: Held the Soul Infinity Stone for a good while, prolonged exposure left him with innate senses regarding it and the rest of the gems. Outside of that his soul itself is so powerful Death herself cannot claim it.

* QuantumMechanicsCanDoAnything: His magical abilities are vaguely described as based on quantum physics.

* ZanyScheme: The Enclave kidnapped Alicia, The Thing's blind girlfriend, just so she could tell them what Him looked like, since they couldn't see it because of the dazzling light he emitted. All they achieved was getting the Fantastic Four mad at them.

Gamora is a Creator/MarvelComics character created by Jim Starlin, first showing up in ''Strange Tales'' #180 (dated June 1975).

The last of the Zen-Whoberis race, Gamora is the adoptive child of ComicBook/{{Thanos}}, raised to defeat [[ComicBook/Warlock1967 The Magus]]. It was during this time in her life that Gamora became known as "[[TheDreaded the deadliest woman in the whole galaxy]]", and exacted revenge on The Church of Universal Truth, who'd been responsible for the genocide of her people.

Gamora wouldn't return to prominence for many years after that, until the ''ComicBook/{{Annihilation}}'' story of the [[TurnOfTheMillennium early Naughts]] helped reinvigorate Marvel's cosmic line of characters and comics. Now possessing a sword called The Godslayer, Gamora had since left Warlock to be on her own, leading a group of female warriors called The Graces. She'd also entered a relationship with Richard Rider, better known as ComicBook/{{Nova}} at the time.

Soon afterward, Gamora becomes a member of the new ComicBook/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy, working with characters like Drax the Destroyer and ComicBook/StarLord. This is perhaps what's she best known for among recent comic readers, and has been a core member of the team since their inception in 2008.

With the ComicBook/MarvelNOW initiative, Gamora (and her fellow Guardians) were further implemented into the greater MarvelUniverse, receiving a new volume of their book while also featuring in titles like ''[[ComicBook/TheAvengers Avengers]] Assemble'', and a {{crossover}} called ''The Trial of ComicBook/JeanGrey'' had them meet the ComicBook/XMen. She also became acquainted with ComicBook/{{Angela|AsgardsAssassin}} during this time, and enjoyed a brief sexual relationship with [[ComicBook/IronMan Tony Stark]] when he joined the Guardians for a spell. An issue of ''Guardians Team-Up'' saw Gamora team-up Marvel's ''other'' preeminent green woman, ComicBook/SheHulk.

Gamora emerged as a major player of the ''[[ComicBook/TheBlackVortex Black Vortex]]'' story --yet another crossover with the X-Men-- where she let herself submit to the titular artifact, gaining cosmically-enhanced powers in the process; she was one of the few who ''didn't'' relinquish their new powers at the story's end.

As part of the ComicBook/AllNewAllDifferentMarvel universe that emerged from ''Secret Wars'', Gamora headlined her first ongoing title, [[note]]though it didn't show up until 2016[[/note]] had a brief role in the new volume of ''ComicBook/ContestOfChampions'' and making guest appearances with the ''Guardians'' in the meantime.

In the 2018 CrisisCrossover '' Infinity Wars'' [[spoiler: she takes the codename Requiem and starts the series off by killing Thanos]].

* OneSteveLimit: Don't confuse Warlock with the shapeshifting alien robot Warlock from ''Comicbook/TheNewMutants.'' Or Adam Warlock's evil self, the Magus, with alien robot Warlock's evil father, the Magus.

After working with Adam Warlock to stop his older version, Gamora realized the true evil of her adoptive father's ways, and teamed up with [[ComicBook/CaptainMarVell Captain Marvel]], Warlock, and future Guardian Drax the Destroyer to take him down. When Thanos mortally wounds Gamora and her allies in battle, Warlock absorbed their souls into his Soul Gem, where they existed in a realm called Soulworld.

The last of the Zen-Whoberis race, Gamora is the adoptive child of ComicBook/{{Thanos}}, raised to defeat [[ComicBook/AdamWarlock The Magus]]. It was during this time in her life that Gamora became known as "[[TheDreaded the deadliest woman in the whole galaxy]]", and exacted revenge on The Church of Universal Truth, who'd been responsible for the genocide of her people.

Gamora and her friends lived there in peace together for some time --until the events of ''ComicBook/TheInfinityGauntlet''-- in which Thanos finally completed his quest to form the titular object, using it to remove Gamora from existence. After Comicbook/{{Nebula|MarvelComics}} restored her into being with the Gauntlet, Warlock soon gained its possession, starting to go mad with power because of it. For this reason, the Living Tribunal decided that each of the Infinity Gems must be spread among Gamora and some others, ultimately calling them the Infinity Watch. Gamora was given keep of the Time Gem -- she couldn't consciously use the thing, but it did give her sporadic precognitive dreams and visions.
