When the Jedi Order fell and the Empire was formed, Barriss accepted the offer of joining the Inquisitorius in the hopes of restoring peace to the galaxy after the war, but finds herself in conflict with the Inquisitors' blatant hypocrisy and their embrace of the Dark Side...

* TokenCompetentMinion: Given how she was able to give Anakin Skywalker a pretty decent fight, Barriss is one of the few Inquisitors who actually have great swordsmanship skills and force mastery. [[spoiler:When she turns against them, she's able to defeat Fourth Sister with laughable ease]].

For whatever it's worth, once her treachery is exposed, Barriss looks back at Ahsoka with regret, clearly feeling no pride in betraying her friend.

Barriss Offee was a female Mirialan who trained under Jedi Master Luminara Unduli as a Jedi Padawan during the Clone Wars. Offee was a survivor of the Battle of Geonosis and was extremely loyal to her Jedi Master. She also preferred studying ancient Jedi texts to fighting and was a bit older than most Jedi Padawans. During her time as a Jedi Padawan, Offee began a friendship with Ahsoka Tano, the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker. Though rather different in personality, the two bonded through shared experience in combat. She led Ahsoka and herself through the catacombs of Poggle the Lesser's main droid factory during the Second Battle of Geonosis and together they destroyed the facility, becoming close friends along the way.\\

* FightingYourFriend: The Grand Inquisitor demands that he and Barriss fight to the death to see who joins the Inquisitorius, and if they refuse both will die. Dante quickly embraces this. Barriss tries to talk him out of it, but he ignores her, declaring that he is simply embracing the future.

* NotSoHarmlessVillain: He initially seems too timid and weak-willed to be a prospective Inquisitor, too afraid to try to escape. However, the Grand Inquisitor later claims that he was impressed by both of them and he serves as a vicious opponent for Barriss during their final exam. Even though he doesn't prevail, he still embraces the Dark Side far more openly than Barriss does.

* MeaningfulName: A prospective Inquisitor named "Dante" in the very hellish Nur - and the hellish situation the fallen Jedi find themselves in after Order 66 - is quite fitting.

* AntiVillain: Of the WellIntentionedExtremist variety. The motivations she has for bombing the Jedi Temple hangar are somewhat justified, but her actions in pursuing them are excessive and cruel.

* ShadowArchetype: She ends up becoming this for Ahsoka as the Clone Wars dragged on. Both became disillusioned with the Jedi Order due to their wartime experiences, and both no longer wish to be a Jedi anymore after all is said and done. But their fateful choices on the day that that saw them expelled from the Jedi Order set them down two different, yet similar paths. Ahsoka is left to wander the galaxy helping people and liberating worlds from tyranny, but find herself struggling to maintain faith in herself and the Jedi ideals after first hand experiencing the brutality of the Empire; while Barriss is imprisoned and gaslight into serving the Empire as an Inquisitor [[spoiler:but ends up regaining her faith in Jedi after realizing that the Empire is much worse, and spends the rest of her life atoning for her sins]].

** Upon realizing that Dante intends to kill her without mercy in their final test to become an Inquisitor, Barriss uses the Force to strangle her former friend and then snap his neck. This causes her to "graduate" as new Inquisitor agent, now serving Darth Vader to hunt fugitive Jedi.
